World War III? President Vladimir Putin wants to start World War III, says aide

Russian President Vladimir Putin has been preparing for a major world war, dubbed World War III, for over a decade. This according to Russian economist and former policy adviser to President Putin, Andrey Illarionov. Putin's recent forays into the Ukraine are just the first step in Russia's planned military takeover of the Baltic region and beyond, said Illarionov, who currently works at the Center for Global Liberty and Prosperity at the Cato Institute, headquartered in Washington, D.C.

The Cato Institute is an American libertarian think tank with a stated goal to "promote an American public policy based on individual liberty, limited government, free markets and peaceful international relations."

Speaking at a recent conference in Lithuania, Putin's senior economic adviser from 2000 to 2005 said the 61-year-old Russian president has been planning and bracing for a global military conflict since 2003.....

.....According to the Lithuania Tribune, Illarionov told those gathered in Palanga, Lithuania, "We are talking about a crisis in Ukraine. But such a definition is already a victory of Putin's propaganda. An achievement of the Kremlin's information war. It's not a crisis, it's a war. And, at the very least, a Russian-Ukrainian war."

Writes the Tribune:

According to Illarionov, Russia has been preparing for a major war at least since 2003 and for a confrontation with Ukraine and capture of Crimea, since 2004, when the 'Orange Revolution' started in Kiev. Illarionov refers to an article that the Ruskyi Zhurnal (Russian Journal) published in 2008, which detailed a plan for how to attack and occupy Crimea, then eastern Ukraine, central Ukraine and finally reach Kiev.

With the information in the story above, Russia testing 100,000 troops in ‘Vostok 2014’, biggest-ever post-Soviet drills makes a lot of sense now.
Good thing NATO has a couple thousand troops in the Baltics "as a show of force."

‘They know nothing else': Eastern Ukraine rebels start building neo-Soviet states, aim for ‘military communism’

In the Donetsk region of eastern Ukraine, the Supreme Soviet, as its separatist legislature is known, is nationalizing coal mines and reviving collective farms. At parades, people wave hammer-and-sickle flags; school officials talk of revising the curriculum to celebrate the triumphs of the Soviet Union....

.....There is now a secret police force called the MGB, reminiscent of the KGB Some rebels call it, only half-jokingly, the NKVD, the notorious Stalin-era secret police force.

The unrecognized separatist mini-states in eastern Ukraine, the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, were rescued from a near-death experience last month, when a Russian military incursion routed the Ukrainian army as it appeared close to completing a campaign to wipe the rebels out. A cease-fire that preserved the regions’ semiautonomous status was signed Sept. 5.

In the relative lull in fighting since, rebel leaders have busily set about building the sort of neo-Soviet states that have cropped up in other pro-Russian enclaves in the former Soviet Union: in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, both on the border between Russia and Georgia, and in Transnistria. If a stalemate similar to these “frozen conflicts” were to last in eastern Ukraine, it could make eventual reintegration with the rest of the country difficult, if not impossible.

Instead of democracy – support for very dubious people, such as neo-Nazis and Islamic extremists,” he said.

And gold is toast but low priced oil has NOT saved Japan whom is 100% importers of oil.  I understand Germany does not want to save the Formeral USSR members as they did East Germany: the real cost is tooo many $$$$$$$.  Talk is cheap but action means $$$$$$ for social programs like the lack of funding for former members states of the USSR. The cost to carry the retirement programmes defecate of the Ekraine is estimated at 40 Billion EURO'S.

Yes, Japan has added to the stall of 2014, great point about lower oil prices - truly shows how weak the economy is in Japan.

Sounds like you are saying that Eastern Europe has been ceded, like Poroshenko did when he stopped all services to Eastern Ukraine. Putin's delusions of grandeur are going to go a long way towards creating instability that are sure to be exploited.

It's crazy to think its only been a year since the protest started in Kiev. Since then, Nato Scrambles 400 Times Against Russian Planes, the Ukraine has lost Crimea to Russia, and Russia has invaded Eastern Ukraine.

Putin has been able to say that he's got nothing to do with any of it by doing exactly what Hitler did - playing on the fact the west wants to live the delusion that everything can be solved diplomatically. A great example of this is how the media continues to crow about a cease fire, when in fact 1/5 of the recorded deaths in the conflict have occurred during said "ceasefire"

So, while the 24h news cycle in Western culture has shortened attention spans to the point that if something doesn't happen instantly, it's not happening. In reality, things take time. Just look at what Putin has accomplished in one short year.

Yes: and Putin is selling oil to China at a 300,000 brl/day increased rate.  Yes: Texas is selling Diesel to Germany made from Canadian very heavy crude produced with West Texas natural gas and Pt. catalysis. 

In fact Russia also has some very large RR tanker cars to add delivery to China per inside info I may not share.

Look at how China has moved into Africa. Cheap labour. Think about all the cheap labor that will be needed to build all the pipes and new lines for these new oil and gas deals. Like the tunnels of Moose Jaw, many Chinese workers built the rail lines here.

Ukraine Army Under Fire Amid Preparations for Rebel Truce

Ukraine said it reached an agreement with pro-Russian rebels to resume peace talks next week while troops remained under attack and extra equipment and tanks entered the conflict zone in the nation’s east.

Two columns with about 120 military vehicles crossed the border with Russia in the past 24 hours, Defense Ministry spokesman Volodymyr Polevyi said in Kiev today. Rebels also shelled troops four times near Mariupol this morning from multiple rocket launchers and mortars, according to the government. Seven servicemen were reported wounded.

Ukraine Accuses Rebels of More Attacks as Talks Seen

Ukraine accused separatists of stepping up their attacks in the eastern part of the country, as the two sides neared an agreement to resume peace talks this coming week.

Pro-Russia rebels shelled Ukrainian positions 15 times today, the Defense Ministry said on its Facebook page, while government troops returned fire 10 times. Earlier the ministry said the number of insurgent attacks had almost doubled in the previous 24 hours.

“The rebels are regularly receiving supplies of ammunition,” Ukrainian military spokesman Andriy Lysenko told reporters in Kiev today, saying that the separatists have been using multiple rocket systems more actively. “Our troops return fire effectively, using artillery to suppress the enemy’s firing positions.”

The months-long unrest has prompted the worst standoff between Russia and the U.S. and the European Union since the Cold War. Ukraine’s allies blame Russian President Vladimir Putin’s government for instigating the crisis by giving rebels weapons, cash and fighters. Putin, who denies any involvement, met with French President Francois Hollande in Moscow yesterday and said a cease-fire will hopefully be reached soon.
