It's a bit political. But, JMO, it's going to be part of the News cycle that affects your portfolio. If not, it just fun to watch the commies scramble. IDK how many have been watching Russia, however I am sure that most have seen the massive demonstrations against Putin. Like I have been saying, let's see what the people want, it's not Putin. Gorbachev has recommended that he just step down, any thoughts on what he will do? IMO, he will be forced out, and we could see an NBA owner running Russia in the next year. How the west was won? How about, how the west won.

Without a doubt over the next few years Russia is a place that will be fun to watch. Since the elections this thread was started about are going to be the turning point in the Russian economy, we might as well leave it as a central idea for the thread. On that point, Putin’s party is losing more support and the Russian opposite seems to be much smarted than the people that want change in the Middle East. They are enlisting Paris Hilton type figures that the Kremlin can’t really touch as their face for the public. With all of his promises Putin has a huge spending gap to fill and some analysts are already calling for this to be a crippling debt that Putin is creating. There is evidence of this in the fact that Russia has just raised a record 7 billion euro bond offerings, its success is leading some big Russia lenders to follow suite and issue euro bonds as well. The fact that Russia is excited about a bond offering in Euros speaks volumes when you consider that Russia has its own currency; which they are obviously in the process of dropping. This also raises the question about Putin’s Stance on the Middle East, NATO, and just his general appearance of being “against” the west. It would really seem that all of his opposition is nothing more that barging chips to further economic development, which will only be GREAT for business and stock prices long term. The most interesting thing that is starting to emerge in Russia is how clear it is that Putin is losing grip. He has just quit the Ruling political party because of the protests, even though he tries to claim they are not that bad. Meanwhile even though Putin claims the Medvedev will keep a steady hand, Medvedev isn’t afraid to say that he is all about DEMOCRACY! It appear that aside from all of these internal problems, while they have been saving face with their Syrian allies, the have been preparing to help out the US. How do we know this...? Russia and The US are about to conduct military drills together in regarded to terrorism. This also fits right back into the thread about China taking a stance on the Middle East and terrorism in general. Putin quits Russia's ruling party after protests www.bangkokpost.com/news/world/290276/putin-quits-russia-ruling-party-after-protests Medvedev said in an address played live across the nation. "I am certain that political diversity and the direct inclusion of people in the political process will not lead to a return to chaos at this stage in our history," Medvedev said in reference to Russia's early post-Soviet period.
Russia prepares for a US-Israeli military strike against Iran www.wsws.org/articles/2012/apr2012/russ-a28.shtmlRussian troops to train with Army at Fort Carson www.csindy.com/IndyBlog/archives/2012/04/27/amerikan-conspiracy-russian-troops-to-train-with-army-at-fort-carson

June 13, 2012 MOSCOW — Antigovernment slogans and calls for change resounded in Moscow's central boulevards Tuesday, suggesting that Russian authorities' recent moves to suppress dissent haven't damped the opposition's spirits.
Dissent should read opposition, opposition against Putin for stealing the presidency by rigging ballets with the help of his Russian mafia friends. Putin is just another Joseph Stalin, someway or other, he will make any oppsition disappear. Russia is just a pretend Democracy, just like Mugabe's country Zimbabwe, he is another vote rigger, and getting away with it.

I agree that Putin is nothing but a thug and that the current form of "democracy" in Russia is a joke. That's why the trend, IMO, is that the elections of 2012 were a turning point. Without a doubt he is now employing old soviet tactics, the difference this time my fried, the world is watching. Putin uses tough tactics against protest challenge www.euronews.com/newswires/1551060-putin-uses-tough-tactics-against-protest-challenge/

Russia and China back the dictator President Assad, neither country are democrasies, and neither is Syria, Putin doesn't want the west to arm the Syrian opposition to Assad while Russia is supplying attack helicopters to Assad, which are firing on unarmed citizens of Syria. It's the likes of Russian and China that are keeping Assad and is followers in power, talk about double standards.

I don't know, just that Russia had supplied them with new attack helicopters, if you crash your car, the insurance company loans you one while yours is being repaired, maybe Assad as the same agreement with Russia. Still wrong to use them on unharmed civilians, whether they are new or old.

In the Daily Mirror, a UK news paper, also a picture of an helicopter firing down on the town or city, with lots of smoke raising. It is not possible to target revolutionaries in a city or any built up area, it was just indiscriminate killing, most of the victims where women and children.

Driftr says. Any chance that article made it online anywhere so that you could link it for others to see? I have no idea, i suppose it is somewhere, but don't ask me to look for it, my knowlege of computers is very limited, i don't have a clue what to do. All i can say it was early in the week when that article appeared in the paper. Sorry i can't be of any more help, you might have a better chance of finding it than me, if you know more about the use of computers.

Perhaps you were looking at the first article that came out when Hilary thought they were new? Before the Russians explained it was only repair work and she backed off? That's my bet. Agreed that they are a machete rather than a scalpel. Think we should sell Assad some smart bombs so they can just hit the targets they want to without the slaughter of as many civilians?

Best solution, don't sell Assad smart bombs, but give a cyanide pellet, and tell him to take it, that would save lot's of innocent lives at the cost of one guilty one.
I tried to find the the story of Russia supplying new attack helicopters to Assad, could only find a story that Assad was using attack helicopters on civilians. Told you i was useless with the computer.

No Suggilite, i have read them, but they are not the one i meant, the story i read said specifically that they were newly supplied Russian gun ship helicopters. Russia is the main supplier of arms to Syria, i suppose they are Russian made tanks that are systematically destroying the towns that support the opposition also.

It's the likes of Russian and China that are keeping Assad and is followers in power, talk about double standards. I agree that Russia is the main supplier of arms. There was a "mix" up and Hilary said that "new" ones were going in. They weren't new, just the same old Russian equipment being used to kill civilians. I am well aware of the situation in China. There is quite a bit on that around this board about the civil war if China doesn't spend, spend, spend. The Russian people have spoken. Over the next 6 years the world will get another truly free country. China and Russia are backed into a corner, read the thread on here about China's stance on the Middles East(ME). They just don't want another backed uprising in the ME right now. China has Tibetans lighting themselves on fire, villages protesting and bombs going off all over big cites. Russia has and organized opposition with money that wants freedom. It's just a matter of time, and the commies don't want their people getting any ideas about a backed intervention in THEIR countries.
