Ukraine Rebels Ask to Join Russia as Fighters Free Leader

About 200 rebels attacked the Dovzhanskyi border station today, freeing Luhansk insurgent leader Valeriy Bolotov, who’d been detained crossing from Russia, Ukraine’s border service said on its website.

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry sent a letter to Russia decrying a “significant deterioration at the Russian-Ukrainian border caused by intensified activities of trans-border organized criminal groups,” the ministry said in a statement.

“Such incidents have become systematic and this is causing a real threat to the lives of civilians in areas near the border and to the Ukrainian border service,” it said.

I love these reports that I have read over the last couple days trying to paint the picture that the crisis in the Ukraine is more chaos than Putin wanted. Really? He hasn't already received permission from his own parliament to protect Russian speaking citizens in other countries..

I mean it's very likely that pro-russian separatists have been able to aquire surface to air missiles from thin air..

Russia to Send Humanitarian Aid to Eastern Ukraine as Kiev Pledges to Crush Separatists

Moscow has however stopped short of either confirming or denying its position about supplying military aid to the pro-Russian rebels.

"Humanitarian aid will be given to them for sure, but I can't say anything about military aid. The military should be asked about that," Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.

The remarks have come a day after the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic sent a formal request to Moscow for accession and seeking assistance.

You have to love this chain of events.. 400 pro-Russian militants stage hours-long siege of Eastern Ukrainian border camp, while Russia to test-launch Iskander-M missiles, missiles from bombers. At the same time Russia calls for Ukraine ceasefire.

In other words, Putin is saying back off and let the East hold a referendum on joining Russia. Or if you will, I'm about to take Eastern Ukraine without having to worry about a full scale "intervention". says Putin...

Are you really suggesting that a civil war breaking out and parts of the Ukraine declaring independence because of confirmed Russian troops/mercenaries since the annexing of Crimea is akin to crying wolf? Wow. A few of you really have your heads in the sand, eh? Let me guess. If the Ukraine "declares peace" and leaves the East, that won't be appeasement, right?

I guess according to you the rising nationalism in Europe that I was talking about is no big deal either? That the war is the Middle East is just blowing over and it's not spreading into Central Asia and Africa? Oh wait, their isn't a housing crisis brewing in China and Europe isn't in a depression, right?

Actually I was looking at the fact this thread is almost exclusively you posting message after message and it reminded me a lone wolf howling at the moon.

Should the average citizen of the United States be more aware of the happenings of the wider world? Probably. But in the playing out of events, would that awareness truly impact those events? That I doubt.

I see, for the record I kind of enjoy being a lone wolf. Since the thread views keep going up, there are at least a few others that are interested in what I have to say.

I guess it all depends on perspective as to impact. I have been thanked over the years for my analysis because there are a handful of people that have made some sweet money off of it, myself included. I also think if people in North America were more aware of their surroundings instead of being so self centered a lot of things would be different. In fact, I see all this looking inside yourself, self centered thought as North America's biggest problem.

Bottom line, over the years I have found the more alone I am on a topic the more it has turned out to be accurate.
