That being the case: CVS PANTENE HOUND ALERT: If you find any Pantene clearanced at CVS please post with type/size and even UPC if possible. TIA ;D I posted earlier this week about finding the Pantene ringing up 75% even though the shelf said it was 50% at one store and 25% at another. I responded to your post saying they weren't on sale at your store to make sure you scan them. The ones I found 75% off were the "beautiful lengths" shampoo and conditioner in the tube, the "highlighting expressions" shampoo, small round bottle, 2 in 1 dry to moisturized, large 25.4 oz, and dry to moisturized shampoo, 24.5 oz. There were others, but these are what I bought. Just go in and start scanning...LOL! Okay. ;D That's what I did with the H&S just to make sure that there wasn't another one that was 75% off but not tagged as clearance.

Rite Aid Deal AlertThis will ONLY work for those of us who have ads that go Sunday - Saturday. In other words, those of you in the parts of Cali that have your ad start on Friday, please ignore. Nivea lip balm is 2/$4 with a $10 UP wyb $20. Use $1/1 IPs from coupons.com and Nivea Facebook page AND $3/2 mq's that are supposed to come in this Sunday's paper. The deal will depend on how many of each q's you have. I have 6 of the $1/1 IPs and so I will buy 2 Sunday newspapers (that I hope contain the $3/2 mq's.) So here's what I plan to do on Saturday 12/31: Buy 10 Lip Balms = $20 Less (6) $1 IPs = -$(6) Less (2) $3/2 mq's = -$(6) OOP = $8 Receive $10 UP Net $2 MM and 10 free lip balms! For anyone who is new, who didn't understand what I wrote, feel free to ask questions. Well, actually, if you're "old" you can ask questions too! LOL

Question about this CVS shampoo thing... is it just random types that are clearanced? I went in yesterday to check this out and they had some clearance signs up (though no product on the shelf) but it was totally random kinds that I'd never even heard of. The kind I use wasn't clearanced and I took it over to the scanner to check too - regular price. Are you all just buying whatever random kind they have on sale?

Yes, there are only 2 varieties/sizes of the Head and Shoulders on clearance and 3 or 4 varieties of the Pantene. That is pretty typical of clearance items as they are usually a variety that is being discontinued altogether or not going to be carried anymore by that particular store. Drug stores do a reset a couple of times a year and have to clear out old product for new product, new packaging, etc. Most of us are not brand or variety specific. If we find our "preferred brand" on clearance, all the better.

We specifically were/are looking for the Head & Shoulders Ocean Lift or Extra Volume varieties. Some stores have them for 75% off or $1.57 and you will receive a $2 EB for each one that you buy (up to a maximum of 6). There are also $1/2 Head and Shoulders coupons from a recent Sunday insert. Although DS does use H&S, in general, we are not brand picky about shampoo. My stockpile includes Garnier, Prell, Pantene, Herbal Essence, John Frieda, Dove, Aussie, Finesse, Bioluxe, Samy, Bioinfusion organic, Infusium, Pert and now, once again, Head & Shoulders. ;D

RE CVS Shampoo - some of my stores don't even carry the H&S Extra Volume. But I did see Herbal Essence shampoo clearanced to 99c and there will be a $1 Q this weekend, making it free. I'm hoping someone doesn't clear the shelf, before I get to the store.
I'm rather disappointed that we're only getting 4 inserts, instead of 5 or 6 that we used to get at the beginning of the year.
Re Electrasol/Finish : Meijer always has this on sale for $3, the first week in January. I don't need any Finish, but will buy more because we don't know when the gravy train on this Q will come to an end (like so many others before). I"m stocking up on whatever I can, cause deals are hard to come by these days. I just noticed that I'm almost out of aluminium foil. I'm using the last of those lovely Reynolds ones we got for free at WAGS.
Angel - are you the same Angel that was part of the GC on the MSN message boards?

Price book - hmm - well I have it and I don't have it I have a list of some household items and the prices that I paid for them in various places. I do it per ounce/tissue/sq ft, etc. For food - I do it per can or per lb, etc. It's not the complete list of everything that we use and I am not sure if the format is that good. I would love to see some examples of others price books - the ones that are time-tested and work. thanks Lena Mine is a tiny notebook that can fit in the palm of your hand. Some people do their price book on the computer. I keep my coupon database on the computer, but the Price Book I do by hand. It's just more convenient. You don't need to list every single thing you buy - that would just be too much. Just the main things your household uses - particularly the expensive items. Examples of things I track: Household items:Toilet paper per sf Kleenex per tissue Paper Towels per sheet Sponges per sponge Aluminum foil per SF Food:Vlasic Pickles per oz Best Foods mayo per oz Miracle Whip per oz Totino's Pizza per box Sliced Turkey per oz Olive Oil & Vegetable oil per oz Pasta sauce per oz Sugar per lb Flour per lb Butter per lb I rarely track personal care items, because we've been able to get most of those for free. That includes: -Body wash -Hand soap -Shampoo -Conditioner -Razors -Medicines Food is really, really hard to get super deals on these days. The prices of things have skyrocketed. It really takes a combination of flexibility of tastes, and freezing things when they're on sale, to make the best use of bargain hunting for good food. leanna, I'm pretty good with most of the things I buy except for meat/fish. How do you suggest I do this when, in my mind, there are too many variables to compare. Like shrimp, for instance. You've got fresh vs. frozen vs. previously frozen, cooked or uncooked, sizes of large, medium, or small, farm-raised vs. wild caught, shrimp caught in different countries. I'd hate to think I need a page for each of these but I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around it. What would you all do?

Question about the Quantum coupon for this weekend: Is it $2.15/1 or $2 and does it expire 1/31/12? I am going to buy some on ebay, and I am just being sure I get the right item. TIA

TIA misspt: It's $2.15/1 and it expires 1/30/12. It is good on Powerballs which is what will be on ad at CVS (and probably other places too). I checked the stock at my CVS today and they had a total of TWO Powerball on the shelf. Hopefully they'll get some in on Saturday.

Dancin: Thanks. I was checking because I was looking at an auction on ebay and the price seemed to good to be true. I bid on it anyway b/c all the details checked out as did the seller, but right after I purchased, I noticed she took down all her other "buy it now" auctions for the same price. So fingers crossed I will still get my deal of 20 Finish coupons for $3.75 shipped.

The 2 CVS with the Head and Shoulders marked to 75% off were wiped out, the 3rd and final store had 3 left for 50% off, and after EB and MC, it was still cheaper than the lowest price I paid this year ($2/bottle). This will keep me going for a while since only one person in my household uses this product and he has one full bottle already in the stockpile. All 3 CVS had NONE of the Pantene, but the 3rd and closest one had some Herbal Essences left, so here's hoping it will still be available on Sunday when I get some coupons. I really need shampoo, but can't bring myself to pay for it. One CVS had Christmas stuff at 75% off and had an excellent selection. They had the mini snickers and reeses bags for $1.12/bag (one bag rang up $1.49 dunno why), they had kids boxed puzzles (Cars, Toy Story, Disney Princesses) for 1.25/each and I bought several of these for OCC, this store also had outdoor LED lights that look like wrapped Christmas presents for $4.99 and they are really quite large, mini 4" nutcrackers were .75 each, and jingle bell trees were $3.25 each. I also bought a very large playdoh set that was regular price $19.99 for $4.99 for my nieces birthday in a couple of weeks. I will watch those for the 90% clearance, b/c they had a ton of those, and this store's manager stated that everything would go down to 90% in 2 weeks at this particular store.
I also went to target and lucked out on some cheap sheets (thanks Constanz) and some cheap holiday buckets for candy or cookies next year. I also indulged in some clearanced Yankee candles, too.

Someone came in before she called and bought it all, so anyways, we saved ourselves the gas and the time.

So, this deal works best if you have multiple computers to print the $1/1 IPs from, AND you can get a few Sunday papers on Saturday AND you are not in the area where the RA ad starts early. Hmmm...did I throw enough caveats in there? I'll try to have whatever deal I post next be easier!

Misspt - $3.75 was a killer deal!! I bought them last night at $8, and went to pass the link on to my mom and they were all gone at that price.
I am really sad that the razor deals seem to have dried up. I remember getting buckets full of Fusion and Venus razors for free. Then it was $.89. Then $.99, and now the "deals" are $2 and up. Shoot, we can use cheapie disposables for less than that. I really hope a good deal comes around sometime this year. And DH is almost out of the Dove Men's deodorant that I got for free at CVS when they had it for $.99. Hopefully we can get a good deal on some guys deodorant soon too.
I have really missed this. I can't wait to replenish the stockpile!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now if only RA would come to MO.....

leanna, I'm pretty good with most of the things I buy except for meat/fish. How do you suggest I do this when, in my mind, there are too many variables to compare. Like shrimp, for instance. You're throwing a LOT of variables in there, and the question you should ask yourself is this: What do you GENERALLY buy? And is this something you buy fairly often? For my household, I track the prices of boneless, skinless chicken and whole breasts of chicken. I also might track the price of hamburger meat, and ground turkey. Now, I occasionally make steak & roast. But I don't make/buy them often enough to bother tracking the price. If you're not sure how often you buy these things, I would just do a ticker where you note what meat/fish you ate for a 1 month period. Because you don't want to be tracking every single price out there. That will just drive a person crazy! Thanks, leanna. I am going a little crazy. I guess I would buy most any of them if the price were right. I guess I'll pick a few of DH's favorite meats and start there. Then when I get to know the price of those I'll add in a few more and start tracking those, to save my sanity. I don't know if anyone has Jons but they have some reasonably priced seafood. A lot of it comes from all over the globe and I keep forgetting to look at which countries are good and which are bad for different fish. Yikes. Jons also has whole wheat bread from some local bakery that is $2 a loaf and has only 5 ingredients. It doesn't last long but it's got no additives or preservatives.

Thanks, everybody, for posting about the Head and Shoulders. I hope I can find some. DH just bought one of that very variety for $5.xx, on sale from $6.xx. Ugh! I don't know why he goes shopping on his own. Luckily I have several stores to choose from. Wish me luck.

Guess I can cross a few items off my list. From About.com: When you are over at the freezer section, look at the labels. The first thing you should look for is an indication that this seafood was caught in America, Canada, Iceland or New Zealand. These countries have the best fishing management practices in the world, and in the case of American seafood, you are helping create jobs here. Many other countries are over-fishing their part of the oceans. And a special note on farmed shrimp from Southeast Asia: These shrimp are loaded with chemicals and pesticides, and are so horrid for the environment -- and the local people -- that I recommend you avoid them altogether.

Do you know of any reason why we couldn't purchase some of these tomorrow and the last (using the coupons from the paper) on Saturday? I'm assuming they will track...?

Quick update from my search. This is how I shop for meat. You would be surprised by the chemicals, etc found in asian seafood and south american beef and pork....

Remembered Deals
This is basically a ‘watch out for.’ I recall in the early years of this decade Jewel (Albertsons) having some GREAT deals on canned tuna and chicken leg quarters in late Jan/Feb even compared to sale prices then.
Tuna started at 0.25/can. That is cheaper then what I was paying for cat food. Chicken was priced the same. Naturally, as the years went by the prices went up but these 2 items still were a GREAT deal.
I do not recall seeing either item at GREAT prices the last few years but you can just bet I WILL be watching

Next week we are buying a split side of beef from a local farmer so I'm hoping that will last us all of 2012. We got a new upright freezer over BF weekend and it'll hold a year's supply of meat and everything else I've been stockpiling. I just have to narrow down the cuts of beef and the amounts of each that I want to buy.

wow this board is on fire today ;D for me, since i live in a smaller town (you know what im talkin about dancinmama) i have 1 CVS and 1 WAGS and unfortunately, im not the only one that is couponing it stinks because (no offense to ANYONE) but its the stay at home moms who get there and wipe them out before i get off work at 4:30, pick up the kiddos, and then wait for DH to get home before i can leave to go look at what they have...oh well, i did get a big bottle of shampoo and a small tube of conditioner plus DH likes how the herbal esssence smells and since they are big bottles too, that will make him happy for at least 3 months twinmama: I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with stock on the clearance items. Boy have times changed. Even though I was a SAHM, when I shopped, there was always an abundance of stock when I arrived and when I left. I had a ton of SAHM friends through a baby sitting co-op, and I can't think of a single one of them that had an interest in using coupons to any extent, if at all. Most of my friends knew that I had a stockpile, but few were interested in how I shopped. In those days, there was no such thing as internet coupon match-ups; I maintained my own coupon database on Microsoft Works (data entry every Sunday) so that I could quickly do my own match-ups when the grocery ads came out on Wednesdays. Because information was not readily available, like it is today, most people who used coupons only used them on a very casual and somewhat random basis. That being the case, getting extra inserts was a piece of cake and, for the most part, it seemed like I was the only on the planet interested in using them. It will be interesting to see what happens with the use of coupons once the economy improves. Will people who have jumped on the bandwagon continue to use coupons as a money-saving tool having lived through such a long recession, or will many become complacent because their budgets are no longer as tight?

"Buy Price" Shopping List: For those interested, southernsaversdotcom has a downloadable shopping list with prices of items after coupons. Go to the top of her site and hit on Learn to coupon. I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with her prices as regional differences affect some prices. I just thought this might be helpful and/or interesting to anyone who wants to see the possibilities coupon use can have on a grocery budget.

When my kids where little I used to love sundays clipping and arranging coupons, DH never really got on board with me so I guess I just stopped.

Really the opposite for us, our money became "loose". So no longer tracked/budgeted.
