Good Afternoon Kids! We're having a practically perfect weather day, with the temp around 75 and the sun is out. DS & I went to church, had an early lunch, and took a long walk, since this will probably be one of the last really warm days until next year. Sharon, I hope your DGD is ok. She's school age now, right? It seems kids in the younger grades bring home every illness possible the first 2-3 years they're in school. NancysSummerSip, I need to stick with the healthy stuff, although I'd love a taste of a key lime donut.

I got some corn stalks, fresh squash and zucchini today, for DD2. The corn stalks really add to the look of her Halloween decor, outside her front door, with her bale of straw and pumpkins.
But I forgot to leave the squash and zucchini for her, so it's riding around in my car.
My elevator has been broken all morning/day. I hope it's repaired soon.

Had some light rain this afternoon, which is nice - no need to water the garden this evening, though I will go out and do some work outside in a bit. I have the turkey and kidney bean chili on simmer. We vote tomorrow for early voting and see my brother and the family for dinner Wednesday. The following week, I go apply for my concealed weapons permit.

We are having a really nice weather day today but rain is supposed to come in tonight and into tomorrow. I did get a big load of yard debris taken to the , my poor car. I've been looking for a small utility trailer but haven't found anything that meets both my needs and my budget.

I've been looking for a small utility trailer but haven't found anything that meets both my needs and my budget. My poor car, too. All those really tall corn stalks I put in it, shed their dry pieces into the very black carpet of my car's interior. And even though I followed the grain, so to speak, when I put them in, they had to come out being pulled the opposite direction. Luckily, they were just cut, when I picked them up, so not as dry as if I bought them at the store. I miss having an outside area, I could decorate through the fall and Christmas. Now, I just have an inside hallway. It's boring. And even though I have a window, I can put my Christmas tree in front of, there's a concrete wall across from me. Plus, being 4 floors up, no one can see it. I might decorate the railing on my balcony. People will see that, from the parking garage. We'll see.

At one apartment in Boulder, I had a patio and I hung up Christmas lights on the balcony above me. They were pretty. I had kittens when I lived there and I distinctly remember taking the tree down in the middle of the night because they were knocking it over every single night.
At the other apartment in Boulder, I had a balcony and hung lights from the railing. I did that the first few years here, too, from the deck.
Where my parents lived, it was quite a competition as to who could decorate the door and area around the door the prettiest. They had a contest and people put up beautiful displays. Mom only lived there for one Christmas, but my sister kept the door decorated as long as dad lived there. He would say he didn't want to be the only one with no decorations.

They are having a door decorating contest here, too, for Halloween. But since all my decorations are gone and from what I've heard, no Trick or Treaters come, I'm not going to bother with it. I don't want to spend the money and I don't have room to store it all.
At my last place, I decorated my door and the area around it, every year. Lots of years, I heard kids say, "I like hers best!", as they waited for candy.
Now I'm in a secured bldg, with very few kids.
My kids and I (and grands) are going to carve/decorate pumpkins, Friday evening. I will watch, because my tremors make doing it difficult, these days.

I’ve seen pictures of oranges decorated with a black marker. You can decorate some oranges and if you make a mistake, just eat the evidence.

Or maybe wrap a pumpkin in toilet paper, like a mummy.

Hello and a fine Monday to the peeps! I kick boxed and then we voted early today. Also picked up more coffee from a small coffee shop that gets their beans directly from farmers in Haiti. I like to support the small business folks if possible (I also had the free latte coupon there!) Stopped at Fresh Market just for DH's favorite macaroni salad, but you know how that goes. He found apple cider and vanilla cream soda. Butter and eggs were an excellent price (better than any other store I shop), so we came home with a few bags.

Good Morning Kids! We're having a "Monday" here. Got 2 separate billings one month apart for DH's surgery for anesthesia, and it turns out we have to pay for both of them, because one is for the doctor, and one is for the nurse. Good thing DH is still working. Also, I'm scrambling to find paperwork. Trying to qualify for one of those fancy driver's licenses that'll get you onto an airplane, or into Canada or Mexico. The requirements are crazy! The person at the DMV actually told me it's easier to get a passport, which is Plan B if I can't meet all of these crazy requirements.

I have that kind of driver's license. It was not hard to get. It's a real ID. It doesn't get you into Canada or Mexico. That needs a passport, I believe.
I had my driver's license, took birth certificate, Social Security card, utility bill and another bill with my name & address, and current driver's license. Name has to match social security card.
You can find state specific list by googling Real ID requirements. It will get you to a map for your state.

Fortunately I had all info on hand for star ID. I even had marriage license to show name change And that goes back to 1964. But I did make appointment online. We have only one place that this could be done. We must have at least 6 different DMV branches here but only one does the star thing. I walked up to counter and told them I had apt, I was out in less than 10 minutes and most of that time was spent time copying doc. Good luck and hope it won’t be to traumatic.

But I don't travel much and have only left the states twice, as an adult, so I don't know how it impacts things.

We've got a type of driver's license that is a step above REAL ID. It will actually get you in and out of Canada, Mexico, and some islands too. I don't know if I'll qualify for it, but I've pulled up a bunch of paperwork, including my marriage license, because you need to have "proof" for any name changes. If I can't get this highest level of license, I'll probably settle for REAL ID.

I have arranged for a guy to come hang a picture and a wooden clock, my dad hand made for me, about 40+ yrs ago. He said he'll come at the end of the week. This is the 3-4th person who said they'd do it. So far, no one has shown up. We've agreed on a price and what needs to be done. I think this guy will do it. (I hope.)

Top of the Tuesday to ya, peeps! I swam, stopped at Walmart (still not buying Halloween candy until the weekend), and after breakfast, cleaned the bathrooms and started laundry. Will try to mow the lawn later (it rained overnight) after a run. No races remaining for October, but two scheduled for November. Baby brother is in town with wife, daughter and daughter's fiance. This was supposed to be the honeymoon week - nonrefundable tickets for the kids; brother and wife decided to tag along since "it's not really a honeymoon." I dunno, I kind of have the ick about this, but not my call. We are having dinner with them tomorrow.

Good Afternoon Kids! Well, I went to the DMV, so we'll see if I get my fancy new driver's license or not, but they're supposedly way behind, so it'll probably be months before I see it. But then, DS has a hold on his right now, and I need to take him in soon to figure out what the problem is. Poor kid doesn't have much of a paper trail, being disabled & all he may not be able to get anything but a plain ID card. Sometimes the "system" stinks.
At least it's sunny & warm outside today. I'm trying to enjoy the nice weather while it's here.

Good Morning Kids! It's going to be another busy day as I need to try & clean up some paperwork mistakes made regarding DS (no, it wasn't me who made the mistakes, but I get to try & clean things up). Is it really only Wednesday? It should be Friday by now.

It's made from a piece of myrtle wood, which is very hard. He and my mom, brought back a slab, from the Oregon coast, for each of my brothers and sisters, to make a clock. They were all unfinished, slabs. My dad made himself a clock and he made mine. No one else ever made theirs. I have always treasured my clock. And now that my dad is gone, it is invaluable to me. I need to tell my kids the story about my clock.

My maternal grandpa was a carpenter so I have in my possession a porch swing he made for each of his many children and a footstool he made for his oldest daughter when she was pregnant and living with the family.
The footstool has been recovered but it's the sweetness of him making it for his unwed daughter that gives it meaning.

Mom sold her swing in 1960. The one I have belonged to one of her sisters. I got it when she went to a nursing home and her daughter had to clean out the house. It was given to me with the caveat that it needs to stay in the family. I have offered it to DN3 as he has an all seasons room. He says it's still full of boxes and they do want it.
The footstool was given to me by my 90 year old cousin. She was the baby of his unwed daughter. 90 years old. My cats love to sit on it as did her cats.
