     When I first woke up, I thought it was Monday too.  I'll blame that on how little sleep I got.  It FEELS like a Monday...

I'm baaaack.  It was a long week and I didn't the sleep or relaxation that I had hoped, and needed.  I don't think I will do week long vacations with Mom any more.  We only did it the past two years because the lake would only rent the non-studio cabins for a full week (Sunday to Sunday).

It's nice to be home, even it it is super smokey.  Our air quality level is very unhealthy. 

We had smoke most of the week on vacation but not as bad as it is at home.  One night in the middle of the night both our cell phones went off with a level 3 evacuation alert, leave immediately.  It was for a different county and for lakes and a reservoir whose name I didn't recognize.  It did make me think and I started backing the car in so I could just drive straight out the gate if needed.  I always made sure to put my purse and keys in the exact same place each time so I would know exactly where they were.

The resort is under new ownership and the cleaning of the cabins isn't what it should be.  I will be writing them a letter.  These are very old, rustic cabins, so I don't have the expectation of a 5 star resort.  My sheets and bedspread were dirty.  They replaced them immediately.  Actually they handed me clean ones and I got to change them out, but whatever.  We had mice in the cabin but that is to be expected.  The cabins were built probably in the 1940's and they are in the woods.  When I notified them they were really good about immediately placing traps and then removing the bodies once something was caught.

What they do provide is a good place to take Mom that isn't tent camping or trying to get her in and out of my trailer.  We have kitchen facilities, bathroom, two bedrooms, and a nice size sitting area with a table.  We could sit at the table and look out at the lake or sit out at the picnic table and look at the lake.  Most days I took a chair out for mom that was closer to the lake and set it under a tree and she would sit out there all afternoon and people watch.

I'm glad you survived the week with your Mom, Sharon.  Even if this was your last trip together, I hope she realizes what a great daughter she has.


I'm trying to "top off" that box we're donating to charity, without digging more stuff out of the basement to look.  Whether it's filled to the brim or not, it has to be on our front step at 7 am tomorrow morning.

Today is my last day of vacation.  I planned a recovery day for today since I knew Sunday would be a long day of driving.  There is a good chance of rain today and overnight tonight.  I hope it materializes, we could use it.  It would also help to clear out the smoke. 

Today will be a day of going through mail, e-mails and finish unpacking.  I will also get a much needed haircut.

Good Morning Kids!  Insomnia hit me hard again last night, in spite of me having an "adult" beverage before going to bed.  Laid down at 1 am, finally went to sleep around 3.  I'm blaming the heat & humidity again, but it's only going to get hotter as the week goes on.


My charity box was picked up early this morning.  (Yes, I'm sure they got it, as they left a receipt.)  DH set it outside before he left for work this morning.

Today has been absolutely nasty for air quality.  We have been in the unhealthy range all day.  I've also been out a lot running errands, but at least I got several things done.  It feels good to have those items off the list.

I just got home from giving my neighbors a ride to get fast food. I hope this doesn't become a constant thing. I don't mind once in a while, but don't want to do it all the time.

When we left, the guy downstairs was arguing with another one of the neighbors. Screaming at her. When we got back, he was still screaming. He was screaming at someone this afternoon too. He's not a great neighbor.

The old lady kitty earned her keep this morning and caught a mouse in the house.  She is having troubles jumping up on things, like the bed and couch, but the old instincts kicked in and she took care of the mouse.

Good Morning Kids!  The weatherman is right, as you can just FEEL the humidity today.  Heat index is going to be somewhere in the 100's.  Hoping I don't get a migraine, so I'm taking in a lot of caffeine to fight it off.

I went out AFTER 8 pm to buy some groceries.  It is still nasty-hot here.

We had a really strong, but fairly short storm here, this afternoon. Afterward, I read an article saying we might get a tornado today! WTF? We don't get tornadoes. It's a valley, between large mountains (Rocky's).
In 1999 one hit, but I've never known of another one. I had just moved to the area where it touched down, a few days before. I was alone, in an OLD house.
And why do they always tell us about it afterward?
It has been dark all day. Dark enough I had to turn the lights on, in my apt. It was the same way in 1999.

OMG, 3 dogs have been gored and pushed off cliffs (killed) this week by mountain goats, not far from me. People were hiking/camping on a trail with their dogs and the wild mountain goats came right into their camp. They showed them, on the news.
I've never even seen one, in real life. That's crazy!

Barely 9 AM and it's already 85.  Saw a school bus full of kids.  While they get out early the rest of the week, that bus ride home is going to be miserable and some of those kids are on the bus for an hour.

Good Morning Kids!  Once again, insomnia ruled last night.  But, I'm up early to get groceries before it gets any more miserable outside.  I'm staying put after a quick trip.

Yes, the windows on the buses open but they are crowded.  The kids will have been sweaty and hot all day and then they get to endure the bus ride home.  

Those buses totally frost over in the winter.

Today was a nice day, I wish I could have worked outside in the yard.  Instead I worked late working on a carryover problem from the previous evening.

DD and DGD1 have birthdays this week.  I got their presents wrapped and ready to go, well DD is getting a card with some cash.

Good Afternoon Kids!  It's 79 degrees here, but the humidity is over 80 percent, so it feels a lot hotter than it is.


I went to inspect my vegetable garden.  As I feared, the high heat & humidity did a lot of damage, especially to some things like tomatoes.  If you get roller coaster temperatures, or heavy rain, my large tomatoes usually split.  Also, it looks like the pumpkins that were beginning to develop have died.  It can be SO frustrating when you have a garden.  We never seem to have a year where everything does well.

I hope you get something from it.
I think home grown fruits and vegetables taste significantly better than those from the grocery stores. I rarely even venture into that dept anymore. I can't remember when the last was that I bought a fresh tomato from a grocery store was.
