Tomatoes in restaurants don't taste good to me either. They may hold together, but the flavor & texture is poor. I love a fresh, juicy tomato right out of the garden.

When I lived in Boulder, the only thing that tasted even close to the Midwestern garden was strawberries. My strawberries tasted so good.
I went to the organic farm stands for tomatoes. The ground didn't have the right stuff to grow sweet corn with any taste.

Gracious good evening peeps! I weeded for about an hour after work, and washed floors while the pizza baked in the oven for dinner. Race season starts next weekend, so I plan to wrap up as much as possible when it comes to little nagging chores. Paperwork and that kind of thing.

I kind of only go "off" when I sleep, which is better these days since my steroid injection for my back. Speaking of busy -- swam this morning, stopped at Walmart, then home for quick fruit and cottage cheese breakfast, then the bank and fish store. Got the last 2 hedges trimmed and I am enjoying an iced tea before lunch. Just got a text from my baby bro -- he and the family are in Asheville, considering the Biltmore for a wedding venue for his daughter. The wedding planner (who works for the Biltmore) is a no-show so far. It's a sign. It means DO NOT THROW AWAY A GAZILLION BUCK ON THIS WEDDING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go have it in a nice park and a big BBQ party afterwards. Nobody needs the whole fancy I do's. (Well, my SIL does. She is a Southern belle. And an only child, as is this daughter).

I allowed myself to stay in bed as long as I wanted today and I feel much better. My sleep issues are seriously affecting my life right now. Tonight I will have the grandkids for a while. DD has a milestone birthday tomorrow and she and DSIL are going out for dinner tonight. I also need to bake a chocolate cake today (DD's request). Not sure if we are having cake and ice cream today or tomorrow. We are going to be in the 90's today so I need to get any outside work done this morning.

I sort of retired -- "down" to 30 hours a week. It gives me more training time and time to manage DH's illnesses.
Yum...birthday chocolate cake. My favorite, too. Baby bro just texted ... the Biltmore it is. Sheesh. That's a bleep-load of money for a wedding. They decided not to have it in the mansion itself (that's $200K, and that's not a typo - it includes everything, but the Biltmore provides it all - you get no options on vendors) but on the grounds. Wedding pictures can be done in the mansion.

Yum...birthday chocolate cake. My favorite, too. The cake is baked and I spread the leftover frosting on graham crackers for the kids to eat this evening. That is how I wish to retire, cut down one day at a time until I decide to go out the door. I would still qualify for full insurance with 20 hours a week. If I hadn't moved I probably would have dropped to 32 hours a week this fall and then cut down again in another year or two. But alas still full time for me but I do see the grandkids more since I moved.

I'm sure there will be rooms reserved for wedding guests at about $500 per night.

I do plan to make a small vacation out of it. I have not been on vacation in over five years.

Good Evening Kids! What a difference a few hours can make. When I went shopping mid-afternoon today, it was humid out. After dinner, we all went on a walk, and the breeze is actually cool, and the temps have dropped. It almost feels like Fall has arrived.

I love watching little kids try and keep a secret. DSIL doesn't do gifts so I had picked up some packages of bulbs for the kids to give Mom for her birthday. I knew I wouldn't be able to get them out to pick out something since I don't have car seats etc. After dinner last night I let each kid pick out which bulb package they wanted to give Mom and we got them wrapped. I let them figure out how the tape worked and put the tape on the wrapping paper etc. I also had printed off some coloring pages that had Happy Birthday images and they got those all colored and affixed to their packages. The kids were having a ball doing something for Mom and we talked about not telling Mommy. When they were getting ready to leave last night and needed to get DGS2 out of bed, DGS1 pipes up and says don't look in the sewing room. DD would have no reason to look in that room and probably hasn't been back there for several months but he wanted to make sure she didn't the presents. They will be back sometime today for presents and cake.

Keeping it light, lots of cold drinks. I did a final trail run before next Saturday's race. The trail was muddy and grass was high, but that was good prep for next week, when a tropic storm to the west may give us rain during the week. Aside from the run - I cleaned the bathrooms and two loads of laundry are going (one washer, one dryer). Breakfast is done. Paperwork is filed. Bills paid. We did blueberry waffles. That big bag of frozen blueberries from Costco is getting a workout!
Dinner will be chicken parm with leftover mozzarella cheese and leftover pasta on the side.

Good Morning Kids! It must be chicken parm season, because that's what we had for dinner last night. With penne pasta. After church we stopped in at a produce seller in our community & I bought some Colorado peaches. This place buys up all of the freshest, juiciest ones. The other stores can't even compete, not even buying the Colorado ones. Of course we're having fresh peaches with lunch.

Just went back outside and picked up the small stuff around the house and put it away, and made sure the hoses were secured. Not expecting much from this storm to the west, but gusts and rain. We have some heavier pots outside and will move those if we need to. We have plenty of supplies, so we are all set.

We have scheduled for one more day of hot weather and then it looks like fall sets in. We will go from temps in the upper 90's this weekend and Monday to upper 70's and low 80's starting Tuesday. Whenever we have a change in the weather we get a lot of wind so Tuesday will also be a very windy day, gusts around 45 mph. DD and the family came over for a while today for her birthday. We had a swim and then presents followed by cake and ice cream. Tomorrow is there first day of school so she wanted to get home early so all the kids could have baths and get to bed early.

I'd be afraid that I would end up with a sheet of paper, covered in tape pieces, an unwrapped gift and no tape. Hahaha My DGDs LOVE to put tape on paper. They also love to paint/color a small area, of almost every page in a coloring book (like maybe, just the hand). Then next time, they get mad, because all the pages have already been used/started (just the hand. Or maybe a 1" space, of a very large page.🙄)! I was able to talk DGD2 into painting on a page she had done this on previously, when this happened on Friday. Yay! I'm not always that lucky! She was getting really upset about not finding a totally unmarked page. I suggested that she finished a page that had a small place painted. Suddenly, it was like a light bulb. Her face got bright, her eyes got big, she smiled and said, "Oh. Yeah!" She hadn't thought of that. That would be fine. 😊 She just turned 3, in June. They're both so cute and usually, very sweet. ❤ Note to self: Get new coloring books. (Frozen?)

Good Afternoon Kids! I might have just found my next regular handyman! He's actually coming back tomorrow, and he thinks he can deal with everything in the same day. I don't think that's the real Elon Musk, toomuchreality. Be careful if he starts asking you for money.

The kids came over for a quick swim this evening after dinner. Today was the last warm day for some time. We swam a around a half hour then the kids put on their jammies. DD said they would go home brush their teeth, tell Dad about the first day of school and then off to bed.

It's a beautiful day here as I went for my chai.
I'm going to visit my dead people next week and I hope I get the same kind of weather. The more research I do, the more research I need to do at the courthouse.

I am so angry and probably/hopefully just got a checker fired at the grocery store. She determined that my bags were too dirty for her liking so she threw them on the floor at the end of belt and told the box boy that he wasn't allowed to put them on the belt because they were dirty. She then told me I should consider washing my bags. I told her they wouldn't be dirty if people didn't throw them on the floor. The box boy is then trying to fill the bags while holding them which made for some interesting packing and things falling all over each other. He was also walking on the bags that were still on the floor. In the end I threw the rest of my groceries in the car and left. I wanted some cooling off time before engaging with the manager, plus I wanted to get my ice cream home and into the freezer. I called the manager once I got home and she wanted the time that was on the bottom of the receipt so that she could view the camera footage. The manager also stated that they have had this issue with this checker before and that situation would be handled.

Holy Moly! I can't even imagine a checker doing that! She doesn't sound like someone I'd like to work with. And I'd probably avoid her check out line. I have started putting my frozen/col foods (especially things like ice cream and milk) directly into my insulated bag, when I shop, because as I age, I find myself being more concerned about things like that. And I always ask that all my cold items be put in my insulated bag, separate from the other items, so I can get them inside and put away, first. My garage is quite a ways from my apt. And now, with my heart problems, I don't always get everything inside, for a day or two. I hope that cashier is not a problem, in your future! There's no need to be so rude.
