I would normally be at DD2s today, caring for my granddaughters. But my DSIL's sister's 3 kids are going to be there as well and they are like loud tornadoes, who just ignore everything you say. Creating total chaos and making the toddlers cry. I can't deal with that. And since I wasn't taken into consideration when they decided to let them spend the day, the adults who made the decision, can deal with the choice they made. This seems to be the only way to get my DSIL to take my wants and concerns seriously. I sure hope this isn't the plan for the whole summer! His sister didn't make day care arrangements for her kids, for the summer and she works for DD2 and her husband. Ugh. I always hear what good kids they are. 🙄 <huge eye roll>

Here I am wondering if I can take care of a 2 year old overnight for one night! Except that I'm driving to Toronto to do it, I don't think I need to worry.
If they tried to drop 3 extra kids on me, it would be a loud NO!

Don't feel bad about your decision toomuchreality. You already do so much to be able to spend time with your grandkids, you should not have to put up with and clean up after the 3 that don't know how or were never taught to behave!
p.s. I'm ok, thanks for asking

We figured out all of the dates, etc. for when I go to Toronto to babysit. They are picking up the bill for the guest suite this time.
If they had offered to do that when they wanted me to come to Chicago, I would have done it. Staying in a hotel on the Magnificent Mile for 5 nights was going to be quite costly and there was expensive parking to go with it.

Things are finally moving forward in a positive way. The plumber is coming out this afternoon to look at the job and get me a quote. I can see them wanting to look at the job but I'm pretty much going to accept whatever quote they give me since I'm a fan of hot water. The electrician will be here Friday and I will get my 10 new light fixtures installed. The price was rather high but again he is the only one who has shown an interest in doing the job so I'm paying it.

Really glad you're making progress in finding workers, especially the plumber. Having no hot water is a real pain! Hopefully, no more unexpected projects will pop up anytime soon.
p.s. How is your kitty doing?

Hot water is a requirement even if it hurts the pocketbook.

It is getting harder to get work done here, too. And we're close to a major city. I blame it on the public school systems, who often no longer teach shop class. It's going to bite us in the butt eventually. Speedy has been shedding like CRAZY the last couple of days. I'm finding so much of his fur in the kitchen, that I can practically knit myself another dog.

The plumber came out and looked everything over, measured, and took pictures. He said the quote would be ready tomorrow, that prices are rising so quickly that he can't do quotes on site anymore he needs to check with his wholesaler. He also said that they are booked 2 -3 weeks out so looks like I could be with out hot water for some time. skeeter kitty is hit and miss, she has her good days and her bad days. When the bad days start out numbering the good days I will know that it is time for the final vet visit.

Don't know how old your girl is, but I do know a LOT about having good and bad days and they are nerve wracking waiting and hoping things get better.
I have two seniors (17 & 18) in my "group" who take different medications and tend to be finicky eaters. I give both Gerber's Baby Stage 2 Food on their "off" days and they love it and are getting some nourishment. Ham, Chicken and Turkey flavors are the best here if you ever want to give it a try.
p.s. Hope your water heater arrives sooner than later

Hi Kids! I'm STILL playing catch-up for all the time my relative was in the hospital. Today was cleaning the house day, and I also picked up some groceries. We're supposed to get an early Summer heat wave beginning next week, and we may even hit the 90's. It's early for that. I'll have to really baby my vegetable garden, as new plants don't handle heat real well.

One more rainy afternoon to go -- the weather is about an hour or so away. I had a flat tire this morning, so I took DH's car to practice. Did a Walmart run, got the tire fixed, got to the bank and the market and home for lunch. I'd like to do some yard work when it clouds over.

We got buckets of rain overnight but so far this morning relatively dry. The kids are coming over this afternoon so hopefully we will get the final things done on the pool and can start filling it with water. Dinner will be pizza and I'm in the middle of making chocolate chip cookies for dessert.
Yesterday when the kids were over DGD asked me what was in my cookie jar. I told her nothing and she told me she would help me make cookies and that she likes to help. She is a good helper and helps her Mom quite a bit with the baking. I would have gone over this morning and picked her up to help me but there isn't room in the car at the moment for car seats. Thursday evening on FB marketplace a turtle sandbox came up for a really good price. While others were dickering around on the comments about if they needed it, and the price etc I messaged the lady and told her if she was in the area I would come get it right now. I knew it was a good deal. Turns out the lady was very close to me so I popped on over and got a brand new in the box sandbox for $25. That is still in the back of the car along with the 100lbs of sand I picked up to put in it. In other news right now I will get hot water back on the 29th, yes over two weeks away. The lady is trying to get me moved up on the schedule. The cost is going to be almost $4000.

Holy Moly! $4000! This is why I rent.
The turtle sounds fun/cute. Smart move. You're such a good grandma.
How's the pool?
My cookie jar hasn't had cookies in it for probably 25 yrs.

DGD2's 2nd birthday party is tomorrow (Sunday). They're having a bounce house with a slide into a kiddie pool, I think. They also have an in ground trampoline and a nice swing set with a fort and slide. It should be fun for little kids. I just hope no one gets hurt. I need to get her gift wrapped. And go get the big balloon I bought filled with helium. I hope it's not a really long day for me. I'm not real good at small talk. Especially to people I don't know well. The kids will have fun. Pizza for lunch.

Good Evening Kids! It's been a long couple of days... The good news is, my DD stopped by to visit last evening, & brought along her boyfriend. He really is a nice young man. Still playing catch-up on everything. Then the puppy had to slow me down, but pooping not once, but twice in the pen she sleeps in. It's her "safe space". Unfortunately, it meant both her sleep space AND her needed 2 baths today. Sorry about the cost on your new water heater, Sharon. It's definitely pricey, but necessary.

We made good progress on the pool this afternoon. DSIL had read the manual and figured out how the pumping/filter system worked. He went and got the sand for the filter which was really good since they came in 50lb bags. Everything is pretty much set up. We filled the pool a little over ankle deep with water. While it was filling we had gone around with a scrub brush and a broom working on loosening the slime from the bottom.
Then with DD and I in the pool and DSIL manning the filter/pump we worked on getting the slimy junk out. I had a broom and would push stuff down to wear DD was so it could get sucked out of the pool. DSIL would turn everything off when this basket got full and he would then empty the leaves and junk out of the basket. We are really close to being able to finish filling the pool with water and then start getting the chemicals balanced out. The kids had a lot of fun playing in the sandbox while we were working on the pool. Although once we were in the pool all bets were off they had to watch that and were really hoping they could join us in the pool. I did have to laugh at DGD she had this brand new game she had just learned to play. Grandma probably didn't know this game it's called tic tac toe.

It has been a morning, I must say. Our A/C quit last night. Tech came out this morning, replaced coils and pads and vacuumed water out. Good news...like yesterday's tire, this did not cost me anything out of pocket.
I did run this morning, but only because it was hotter outside my house than inside...not by much. I cleaned the bathrooms and vacuumed -- also did laundry and ran the dishwasher. I will work on my race schedule for 2022-2023 and also my retirement today. Dinner will be patty melts, which I have not made in ages (I am using the brioche that was supposed to be French toast this morning)

Good Afternoon Kids! Thanks for all of the fruit options with brunch NancysSummerSip. Be careful with that bounce house, toomuchreality. Our neighbors rented one yesterday (their youngest just turned 2), and I saw the birthday boy take a tumble down the slide onto the grass. The good news is, he seemed to be ok, he just hugged his mom & had a good cry. (I was walking Speedy on the leash at the time, because I didn't want him barking at the kids from our yard, so I just happened to see the whole thing.) The kids DID seem to be having a good time with that bounce house overall...

The kids DID seem to be having a good time with that bounce house overall... The party and the bounce house were a total success! No one got hurt in the bounce house, or on the trampoline, although DGD1 got stung by a bee. There was a big water fight, with hundreds of water balloons, hoses, squirt guns etc. For the most part the kids only threw the water balloons at people's feet, which was nice. It helped keep everyone cool. Along with the pool, which many of the adults went down the slide into, as well as the kids. I'm sorry to hear your neighbor's son got hurt, but I'm glad he was okay. My DGD2, who will turn 2 tomorrow, was happy to sit and play in the pool. She went down the slide once and was over that part of it. Lots of noise and chaos, which seemed to add to the fun for most people.

toomuchreality that sounds like a perfect birthday party, everyone had fun. I was trying to make swim cover ups for the grands from bath towels. I have made them before but somehow messed up cutting the first one out. Hopefully DD has time to stop at Bed Bath and Beyond tomorrow when she goes to the big city for her appointment. DGS1 his favorite color is green. I tried to order more towels online so all she would need to do is pick them up but of course they only had 1 in the color of green I had picked out. Which is how it was when I bought them in the first place. Hopefully she has the time and can find something suitable. I wrote on the pattern, this is the front it must be on a finished edge, so hopefully I won't screw up again.
