The kitten is no longer mine. She had a chip in her neck and now she is at home with her parents. I miss her but I am glad she is home. Now I don't have to worry. She traveled about 4 miles from her home to mine.

MK- There are certain numbers of posts at which you will change "status" DGM- She passed at about 9:45. My one uncle just barely got there before she passed because of traffic and the length of his drive to the hospital. And that's considering they called DM at 6:20 and she called all 3 of the othe kids then. What we have found out is that she had something wrong with her gastrointestinal system. They do not know what kind of obstruction- cancer, hernia, what. Because she died in the hospital after surgery she will probably have to have an autopsy done- so who knows. I have been making phone calls and msging family on FB to call me so I can give them the bad news. However- I also got to make the one call that no one wanted to make- I got to call my DGM's younger brother- who is a total jerk. He decided to mouth off- so I told him off. My grandmother- he hasn't spoken to her in over 3 years- and the last thig he said to her was at my grandfather's viewing "I didn't even know he was sick"- liar. 3cats- At least it was a happy ending. I probably won't be on much while we get all of this straightened out and it could get quite ugly.

I have tentatively said yes to meeting the guy. But I am very nervous and something just doesn't feel right. Maybe it's because he's a city boy.

mizbear - my deepest sympathies on your DGMs passing. Please make sure to take care of yourself in what is likely to be a tumultuous few weeks/months. Also, listen to your gut and be careful when meeting the guy. Hugs

mizbear - so sorry to hear of your DGM's passing. you and your family have my deepest sympathies.
3cats - glad to hear kitty is with her family again. She's lucky she had you to take care of her in the meantime. I'm sure they are all very glad to be reunited.
startsmart - enjoy Boston! One of my favorite cities in the world. My one criteria for college was that it be in/near Boston lol. Screw academics!
Finally fixing part of our fence today. It will be a huge load off our back. No more twine tying the parts together haha. Now we just need to figure out how to put in a fence along the side yard to replace the neighbor's crappy wooden one that was half broken even before Irene... we got quotes and they were sky-high. We're thinking with some help from friends we can do it ourselves. We shall see... that's a project for next weekend though.
Okay, back out to the yard! Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

Miz, I'm so, so sorry to hear about your DGM. As far as the date, if your gut is telling you something, you might want to listen. I'm a big believer in gut instincts. At the very least, meet him in a public place, tell a few people where you're going, check in when the date is over, etc. Good luck.

mizbear: So sorry to hear of your loss. I know DGM meant a lot to you. redwagon: From the black friday ads I have seen there have not been any ipad deals. I have looked at Walmart, Target and Best Buy. So if you find a good deal I would just purchase it.

Yesterday was a big spend day, but very productive. We spent $100 at walmart - $25 for new socks and underware and $30 for B-day presents for the our siblings 3 oldest kids (they each get a $10 itunes gift card). Then on to the church bazarre where we got lunch and spent $76 on books - 4 as christmas presents to nieces ($54) and then $22 on 3 books for Ben to be from Santa. I also spent $6 on a baby blanket for friends who are expecting in January. So, $80 total plus lunch (DH paid). Then we went to the grocery store and spend $50. Mainly it was a stock up on meat and frozen pizza that was on sale, plus a few parishables. Overall, I feel good about what we spent this weekend. Oh I also spent $52 on getting my necklace fixed - the clasp broke and the guy at the jewelry store where DH bought it 7 years ago said that a new white gold chain would cost $100. I took it over there 2 weeks ago, but didn't get it picked up until Friday. I feel good about the "kids" christmas presents. I'm going to start ordering this week the items I'm going to buy online. I feel good that I'm on the right track to get stuff done. I got home yesterday and ran 3 miles straight for the first time in 10 years!! Go me. I felt good. Saturday is my 5k race and I feel confident that I can run the entire thing. I'm looking at running 10:30 to 11 minute miles. I would love to get down to 10 min/mile but I just want to run the whole thing and go from there. Then, we have to stay in town for the Christmas parade (I guess I'll take things to grab a sponge bath at church) because DH offered to decorate the church van for it. Next Sunday evening is our "advent event" at church. Of course Thanksgiving is the next week. DS's kindermusic class has a little performance Monday morning that I am going to go to since it is near my office. I was trying to get a head start on my work by taking some home and I pulled it up and I don't have all the information I need. It is for the engineer in Georgia that I do some Hydrology for and I he sent me this survey and I don't know where it is located. Kind of hard to determine a drainage area when you don't know where you are in the world. DH is at a meeting regarding the firing of our youth director at church. Fun, fun. DS is napping. The poor kid melted down almost as soon as we got home. He curled up in the corner of the living room and just cried while I was getting lunch and when I asked if he wanted to join me he just stayed there crying! So, DH got him up and changed his diaper and then I rocked him and he ended up falling asleep in my arms for the first time in 10 months and only the second time in probably a year and a half. So, that is my life. Work is busy, church is busy, DS is busy, etc, etc. DH has spent the last two evenings helping his brother install a furnace. Yes it is November in MIssouri and my BIL does not have a furnace in his house. Oh don't worry he just uses his propane heater and nearly caught his house on fire with it.

Just a quick update:
Update: 12/30 NSD/CSD; Used 9/30 restaurant points
Went to dinner last night to celebrate our 8 year anniversary (that one only counted as 1 restaurant point) and had yummy leftovers for lunch today. Otherwise plugging away at house and work chores.
Did a big Costco run Friday morning (along with the rest of the world) but stayed on list/under budget.

Date turned into mini-date. He thought I needed my time and space due to this weekends events. We are supposed to go to the mall with friends tomorrow.
Thanks everyone for your support.
We find out tomorrow how much time I have to get my stuff out of DGMs house. My aunt said if they say I have to leave my stuff there- that the estate will pay the taxes on my stuff.

#sick# I just spent $140 on Christmas/birthday gifts. Oh well, I'm almost done with the "kids" and can do the rest in cash. I have everything for DS including birthday presents ... well except something that actually fits in his stocking. LOL. I'm down to gift cards for the 3 oldest nieces and something for niece #4's birthday (which isn't until January 22, but since DS's is January 21st we'll exchange presents at Christmas). I also ordered Sunday School curriculum which was $50, but will be reimbursed. I was going to pay personal property taxes and renew car tags online, but that can wait until tomorrow. I don't feel like shelling out another $350 at the moment.

Hello there all. I had a pretty good weekend. Did lots of laundry, finally fixed our front fence (the one the tree guy had to take down to get his equipment in back to take out the tree stump). Now we just need a reasonable quote for the side fence... Did some gardening to prep for winter. Bought materials for my Christmas wreath project. Put way all the Halloween stuff. Did I mention laundry? Now if only we can put it all away at some point... Getting sick of digging through three baskets in the dark in the morning to find what i'm looking for haha. You'd think we were allergic to putting clothes away... oh, also put summer clothes away. And watched lots of Harry Potter, as it was on tv all weekend. Good times all around. Tonight is my penultimate grammar class, which means next week is my LAST class, which is exciting. And including tomorrow, only three more kid's publishing classes, which is also exciting. Just ready to have my evenings back for things like going to the gym... Running out of time for my "lost 15 pounds by March" thing, and I need to counteract holiday indulgences, too!
muttley - yay for running 3 miles, and for DS falling asleep in your arms. I love love love when my niece and nephew do that!
Speaking of my niece, apparently she mentioned me to her parents when I was nowhere around (she's less than 2yo). I had taught her how to "raise the roof" and she was doing it and told them I taught her (all of this in baby garble that they understand). I feel so loved! Now if we can just get her to remember blue's name haha.

mizbear: So sorry for your loss. Please remember that you need to make you a priority.
reenee: Glad the person in payroll at work is willing to look out for you on this. Hope it all gets resolved soon.
3cats: In case the owners didn't thank you, thank you for taking such good care of the kitten while she was with you. You made the happy ending with her family possible, and that's a wonderful thing.

Oh, and speaking of Christmas gifts, my parents have decided to put money towards our Alaska cruise for our Christmas gifts, which makes all that much simpler. And they don't want anything other than our promise to go on said cruise. Done and done! I'll probably bake them something and maybe give them a few scratch tickets (family tradition) but that is much easier than trying to hunt down "perfect" gifts. When you know they don't actually WANT more STUFF around their house, it's so hard. I've taken to giving gift cards and "experiences" because of it. Blue isn't a fan of that idea, but it's always so appreciated. DB and SIL are getting a movie and restaurant gift card package again. Date night on me!
Wondering if I should get my dad's girlfriend a gift? I don't know her well. Usually my dad gets some baked goods and a book or DVD from us. Maybe I'll label the baked goods to both of them?

Update: 8/20 $0 days My day off Friday was awesome. I wanted to sleep in so of course I woke up for the day at 5:30 am Oh well. Ran some errands and got some crafting supplies. Had lunch with my sister and our parents. TGI Fridays was doing a free Vets meal with purchase of another meal so my mom and sister "bought" dad and I lunch. Was nice getting to visit with them. Saturday I babysit my niece and nephew and then DH and I ran some errands in the afternoon. Sunday we lazy-d around the house. I finished some projects and DH changed his muffler and tail pipe on his jeep. Nothing too exciting. Muttley: Good job on getting the presents all purchased. I know it makes you feel a little #sick# But just think of how ahead of the game you are! Holy busy batman! I am exhausted just reading your to do list for the next week. Good luck with your run this weekend. Spruby: Happy Belated Anniversary mizbear: Hugs again for your loss. Hopefully the estate stuff will allow you the time you need to properly deal with your belongs and your grandma's house. I am the captain this week. Give me a bit and I will be back with your QOTW and COTW.

Happy Monday all -- We had beautiful weather Sat and Sun, unfortunately, I wasn't able to walk outside too much because of my schedule. I made chicken cacciatore in the crock pot yesterday for lunch this week. It's quite tasty if I do say so myself. The room redesign is coming together. I asked the sales associate to put together an arrangement for one of my vases. It was relaxing to watch him put it together; he likes to do that type of thing.
mizbear -- condolences to you and the bear clan. Yeah for the guy knowing to take it easy right now.
muttley -- you go girl. 3 miles running is awesome. I don't have many gifts to purchase, however, I try to purchase household items to last me through the winter. I think I'm set. I bought Bounce on Saturday, so laundry needs are definitely met.
SES -- how are you?
honey -- The migraines have gone. Yeah. Have fun with startsmart!
3cats -- yeah for the kitten finding its home.

Ok- confession time. Coming up with a challenge and question of the week is the most stressful part of being a weekly captain.
QOTW: I realized this weekend that 2011 is quickly coming to a close. I like to try to end the year on a positive note so I have a clean slate come January. So my question is this: What do you need to do to end 2011 on a good financial note? Contribute more to your Roth? Pay off that one last bill? Set up an automatic transfer to a savings account? Establish an EF? Buy a new calendar? Update the budget? etc.
COTW: Do whatever it is you noted in your question! We may still have several weeks left of this year but it's never to early to get a jump start on your planning for 2012.
**edit to add the "bold" and run spell check

QOTW: Stay within a reasonable holiday budget, keep paying down debt, come up with a plan/goals for 2012 and get excited about them.

QOTW: answer: I want to set up a regular transfer from my checking to my savings account to build up my savings. I have one bill left (for the rental on my reverse osmosis system that came with the house) to get caught up on- I always forget that one bill because it's not one I have ever had before.
COTW: Will work on this today. Have to decide if I want to do a Payroll direct deposit for the savings or something within the bank it self. Will talk to DH tonight about the RO bill and get that knocked out asap.
Plus I like to haunt the clearance aisles and I noticed all the cool folders and that are on clearance. Will pick up some "office" supplies to aid with my budgeting and filing for 2012.

Good afternoon everyone.
I will update and answer the QOTW later. I have no computer at the moment. Mine went to be "fixed" on Friday and I learned I won't get it back until Tuesday night.
So I am borrowing startsmart's iPAD.
As of this afternoon we have managed to NOT kill each other! I will write a recap of the visit on my board later this week.
Mizbear, sorry to read about your grandmother.

DS#2 woke up at 3:00 am this morning. I am SO tired today.
Also need to get the e-mail out for Thanksgiving (HOW can that be next week! Really where did the time go?) to tell people the time and what to bring.
Need to get the rooms on the main level and DS#2's room sorted cleaned and then after Thanksgiving the furniture moved out. We are getting the new laminate flooring in. The committee wants us to do DS#2's room, so I am researching cork flooring. Does anyone here know anything about it? If the committe won't approve that it will be laminate flooring with mats over it so he doesn't hurt himself. Should be fun since he sleeps on the floor!
But hopefully will get a lot of crap out of my house and those rooms organized.
