Looks like it might be possible to cross DOW 25,000 before year end.
DOW 30,000 is within sight for 2018 !
Of course lots of things can happen but it is just a matter of time !

With all these big dividend increases, looks like you are geting a very nice raise this year in your investing income Virginian. NICE!!!! Yes, It has been a great year. This, in spite of my holding onto GE as it lost half of its value ! Just goes to show that you cannot count on company management being honest. Fortunately I had the forethought of making sure I was well diversified which helps cushion the blow from the losers and unexpected surprises.

I also plan to purchase CBL and UNIT with the GE proceeds. Both are speculative buys for 2018.
I also like HTGC & GSBD ( Maybe if I decide to sell GIS I will purchase these also.) I expect he market to tank in Jan & Feb so could bring some buying opportunities, but as usual I am 100% invested so I have to sell to purchase other stocks.
I still am betting on hitting DOW 30,000 by December 2018. Percentage wise, its not that far away just over 20%.

I picked up some D this week too- happy to see that someone else liked the unjustified drop in price after the Scana deal! I am looking to add some US REIT exposure to my retirement portfolio- what are your thoughts on O, EPR and OHI? All are near 52 week lows. I like the composition of the EPR properties- recreation, education and entertainment - and it has good cash flows and I like the idea of owning ski resorts. Thanks! And I appreciate this thread allot. Although I don't post much, this thread and the Long Term Investor Thread have shaped my investment strategy.

I've added D and more SO recently. Seem to be out of favor right now, so I feel like I got a decent entry price.

Value BuyGE's 20 year low is $5.7279 per share; set on Mar 1st 2009. Back then everyone thought they were going under, over the crap with their banking division (yep GE owned a bank, had a bank, partly was a bank). They came back, but the interim was a scary time for anyone hanging out in the issue. More than likely GE will once again transform itself, and things will probably get better. Then again you never know... But if they get near the 20 year low, and there is no indications of bankruptcy; We will most likely pick up shares.. Again one never knows...

I don't really know with GE - I'm going to sit it out on the sidelines until the dust settles. I am hearing everything from Break up to Bankrupt and a possible dividend cut again.
Right now I feel very comfortable with my decision.

Hi guys , Yes I am okay, thanks!
My father in law died at the beginning of the month, and then as luck would have it I was scheduled for surgery the next morning and have had some complications from it. So I have had my hands full. But overall things are are good and I am chugging along.

Are we looking at a total sell off of the divisions now? Six and a half months later and still down there. It has been a good day trading stock this year as well as you are welling to keep your holdings for a week or less most of the time!

I was checking my portfolio and checking if there were any dividend increases coming my way. Seems Kellogg increased their dividend by two cents payable this week! WBA also increased their dividend by four cents to forty four cents also paying on September 17th!

This post is not about individual stock dividends, but I think this is an important thought. Fidelity Puritan pays longterm capital gains as well as captured dividends in their portfolio in mid October every year. This year's lt capital gains and dividends payout was slightly over double what they paid out last year at this time. They will pay out short term capital gains in December. If I extend this payout to what our Vanguard funds will be paying the third week of December, this will be a banner year for growth of the accounts for us. If the market falters after the November election it should still be a great payout as these funds do not trade in and out of their positions frequesntly, and if they do sell some winners, we should see even larger capital gains payouts from them.

Completed filling out my planned HRZN position today, and only 100 more to go to finish HCAP and 300 for MAIN. O was completed some time ago. Will research for some new stocks for more diversification in port for the new year ahead.
