Main Street Capital (MAIN) has declared a Supplemental Dividend (Bonus) of .275 cents per share!
A great Christmas present to its shareholders.
MAIN has a Monthly dividend of .185 cents per share but traditionally declares a "supplemental dividend" twice a year in addition to its regular dividend.

I'm hanging in there with GE - Still dripping and will add more if it drops. After listening to the new CEO (Flannery) I believe he is the leadership that GE has been lacking. He is getting rid of dead weight and making cost reductions. I still have hopes of a couple of spinoffs that will unlock value for investors. I am not trying to convince anyone else to go along but my gut tells me to stick it out for the long term. As usual - Time will tell if I am making the right choice.

You should be okay in the long term, but it looks like fund managers are not buying it yet. I imagine the Dogs of the Dow will be winners early next year, and they will be at the bottom of the list.

Why I'm considering Investing in an ETF again - even though I prefer Individual Stocks !
A couple of years ago I sold all my ETFs and invested in Individual Stocks because I believe the return is much better. I didn't have to pay a "middleman" and didn't have to invest in stocks that I personally would not have chosen.
Now I am considering investing in an ETF once again. My reason is because of the Tech Stocks, in particular the high flying tech stocks known as the Fang Stocks - Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Netflix and similar. I have wanted to buy the individual stocks for sometime but because of their high price tag I always came to the conclusion that it just did not make since to tie up that much money into the stocks when I could earn better returns in other stocks.
I believe that these stocks, particularly Amazon and Alphabet (Google) will be either forced to be split up into smaller companies or choose to do it own their own. All are branching out into a multitude of companies that can be easily spun off as independent, stand alone companies some day and the result will be a gold mine for shareholders. Instead of buying individual shares at $1,000 plus I think it is better to just in an ETF that holds mainly these stocks and benefit that way.
Any thoughts?

I have found that the best way to play the F.A.N.G. stocks is via the Options. In your case it would seem that the way to do that would be to BUY either a Calls or a Puts (probably just 1 Contract at a time when talking about Amazon or Google given the prices).
Thinking is that you can pick a direction you think something is going to go; risk a couple of thousand in the pursuit of seeking to make some money (rather than Tens Of Thousands).

I like the idea of buying a sector or index etf under certain circumstances. I bought xlf (financial sector) before the Presidential election because I figured regardless of who was elected President they would have friendlier policies to the banks than the Obama administration. I recently bought VDE (energy etf).
In both cases the index had been below the 200-day SMA but the stock price and the 5-day SMA had move back above the 200-day. It looks like I will get a good return on XLF and time will tell on VDE.
I do not think FB, GOOG, AMZN, and AAPL look too expensive considering their growth rates but I do not own any of them at this time. I think NFLX looks pricey but I've been wrong.

I
Clark : When I talked expensive, I was talking per share prices - With Google and Amazon going for over $1,000 per share this locks me out of any meaningful participation. My gut tells me though that both will have many future spinoff companies and that's what I would like to be positioned for. Google has Waymo, Youtube and many other viable adventures. Amazon, same thing - many viable ventures that could be future spinoffs. And yes, I have been wrong about all these stocks, especially FB back at the IPO when FTI said $19 per share was the buy in price. Problem was, I let my own disdain for FB influence my investing. I am one of the minority of people that has never had a FB account, and never intend to as I don't see it adding value to my life.
Disenfranchised Investor: As much as I have tried I still don't feel comfortable with options and as I have learned over the years - never make trades that do not fit your comfort level. But for those that do - I appreciate DI's advice.

I agree with you on both FB and Apple - Apple needs to come up with something new or they will lose relevance and kids grow up and realize that there are comparable products at better prices.

I sold my GE position in my taxable account. It will be a loss to help offset gains in Dividends for the year. As of now I am keeping the stake in my IRA. I bought it in 2011 @ $17 so still a small gain but will decide soon whether or not to it also.

I'm thinking we'll make it and then it may start to slowly "peak" out. At least be careful of some problems developing to upset the apple cart. Just be prudent, market does not go straight up forever.
