I'm shocked that Wells Fargo hasn't sank more than it has. If Wells Fargo is convicted as Racketeering the fine is 3 X their financial gains - only all the fees they collected from bogus accounts but maybe even a big portion of their stock price increase over the past few years. The fine could total tens of Billions of dollars ! This one stock I don't own ( thank goodness) and I would sell right away if I did. I see this as a long slide down over the next couple of years !

No doubt that regulators are going to take a look at the other big banks to see if they pulled similar antics to what Wells Fargo has. Though if they haven't done anything wrong, then things should work out in that regard with respect to that issue.
How people react to them, no matter whether or not they have done anything wrong; that is another matter all together. And what regulators do in response across the board is yet again another matter entirely.
What Wells Fargo did sure as hell adds fuel to the "break up the big banks" bonfire, banks already played the "I just did what everyone else was doing and that was legal; I didn't realize the mess it could cause; please daddy Fed Reserve; Bail me out?" Card... I don't think that a "I wasn't aware of Felony Fraud, Racketeering, Extortion, Identity Theft, Wire Fraud and all other manner of RICO VIOLATIONS where going on in my bank" defense will fly...
Then again, we are talking about a response to the criminal activities by Washington DC.; so who knows what load of shite they will buy or not.. At least one guy in congress wants to see the top brass at Wells Fargo stand trial and then go on to rip the big banks to shreds... But again, we are talking Washington DC., so who knows what will happen in the end result..

DI - It is my understanding that if they are found guilty of RICO the fine is set at 3 times the amount that they profited from it, both on a personal level and a corporate level. Not only did they gain from account fees but they also gained in stock value in the Billions. If they are found guilty and the government allows this to go forward it could spell the end of Wells Fargo - My confusion is why isn't the stock dropping like a rock? Do investors think the government is just going to sweep this mess under a rug and make it go away ? It seems so because if I had invested in Wells Fargo I would be panicking and getting out quickly. Maybe they are all confident the government will step in and make it all go away. This one of the reasons I don't like Banks as Investments. We know the government will not bankrupt them as this would be devastating for the nation but it might not be the same bank when they are through with them.
Any of you holding WFC - you have my best wishes.

Wxyz - I agree with everything on your list except the drug stocks, I like the big name pharmaceuticals like PFE, JNJ, BMY, ABBV, LLY, GSK, Merck ----------- I have done very well with ; them but JNJ is definitely the best

New IPO - Could be a Winner !
Camping World Holdings - CWH
Anyone a fan of the show "The Profit" ? I am. I am a big fan of Marcus Lemonis who invests in failing companies and turns them around.
His main business is Camping World - you may have seen them along the interstate while traveling. His company just had an IPO a few days ago. I am personally going to buy about 200 shares in this company - I am not a camper nor do I own RVs but, I like the way this man operates his businesses and I think that this business will be very successful for years to come.
It went public right at $27 per share and has quickly dropped to a price (as of this writing) to about $21.50 per share. It pays a dividend of $1.00 per share and has an effective yield of 4.61%. It's the largest RV retailer and provides retail sales for camping equipment and maintenance service for RVs .
It only offered about 11 million shares to float in the initial offering. It is a very well run company and has a wide moat.
I don't usually promote IPOs but this one seems exceptional to me and is not built around the "Hype" that a lot of IPO's receive. In fact - I am willing to bet most of you never heard of it.
I think that you may want to give this company a good review and consider adding it to your long term portfolios.

Does anyone hold UAN? It has taken a dive recently and I could average down on some shares, just can't make myself pull the trigger. I feel like there will be more market turmoil as the elections approach and probably better/safer opportunities will arise. Any thoughts?

I feel like there will be more market turmoil as the elections approach and probably better/safer opportunities will arise. Any thoughts? I own it - About 2000 shares ! - Yes it is out of favor right now. It is risky - but if you want to make money some times you have to take risks. It is in the fertilizer business and just recently merged with another company. As far as I know nothing is wrong with the business itself, just a sell off in fertilizer prices due to a bumper crop in corn. I believe it will correct as it is just a normal cycle. I am bullish on UAN. I also believe that there is opportunity in stocks when everyone else is scared to death. If you are buying when the rest of the "herd" is buying you more than likely are not making huge gains. Find a company or sector that is out of favor, make sure that the company is fundamentally strong - and pull the trigger. Note : I am not a "Financial Advisor" and the above is just my own opinion. Do your homework and please make decisions that suit your own needs because your money is always at risk in the markets. Good Luck !

Another Stock for those that are looking for opportunities: Suncoke Energy Partners ( SXCP)
Suncoke is down because of the trend in Coal prices - but Suncoke produces Coke - a coal product that is used in the production of steel. A Totally different product. It's income has nothing to do with coal prices.
It has a current yield of 15.58% - It's income is stable as it has Long Term contracts in place for it's products. In other words it is a good stable company.
In my opinion this stock presents a great buying opportunity. I own this stock and am currently adding more between now and November 1st.
You just may want to investigate for yourselves. 15-16 % yields are great for income with the right stock !
Good Luck !
PS: This is a MLP so you don't want to own this in Tax Free accounts like IRA's, Roths - better in Taxable accounts for Long Term holdings.

Thanks, Virginian! I do love bargains, maybe too much sometimes, but I'm always afraid I'm "missing" something about the company. I suppose second guessing yourself just comes with the territory. Thanks for all of your insight on this thread, I enjoy reading yours and everyone else's comments.

Main Street Capital ( Main) has declared it's "Special Dividend" of .275 per share payable on 23 December 2016.
This Dividend is in addition to its regular Dividend of .185 per share each month. Main is a BDC ( Business Development Company) and is considered a "Best of Breed" BDC.
The total yield is over 8%. Consider this bonus Dividend a "Christmas Present" !
IMO this is a great stock to have in ones portfolio !

Update on AT&T Merger with Time Warner A lot of comments are negative on the Merger between AT&T and Time Warner. I however am not. I believe this is a very positive deal Long Term for AT&T. The amount of content they are getting will be worth far more than the $85 Billion they are paying for this company. In the short term however I do expect to see AT&T stock price decline and would say for those not in it presents itself as a buying opportunity for Long Term Investors. AT&T Merger as been confirmed as a "Done Deal" AT&T will pay between $105-110 per share of Time Warner !
The only thing that could probably derail this now is if the government steps in, very unlikely in my opinion since they are two different industries combing. At most they may have to divest some subsidiaries . Look for a temporary decline in AT&T's stock price which for me presents a Buy if you are a long Term Investor ! Good Luck !

Cedar Fair (FUN) Has raised its Quarterly Dividend from .825 per share to .855 per share per quarter.
Its new annual Dividend per share is : $3.54 per share.
Cedar Fair operates Amusement Parks.
Don't own this one but it was on my to buy list !
I also like Sea World - which has received a lot of Negative publicity from Animal Rights groups - but they also own Busch Gardens. I see a lot of future value in them !

Southside Bancshares ( SBSI) has raised it's Quarterly Dividend to .25 per share from .24 per share quarterly ! Annually from $.96 to $1.00 - This is a 4.2% Increase. SBSI has also announced a Special Dividend of .05 per share! In addition each Spring - usually in April or May they give a 5% Stock Dividend ! As an example if you own 100 shares - you receive an additional 5 shares as a bonus. I like this because it is a tax free transaction until I sell the shares ! Current effective yield is : 3.15% + Share Dividend = 8.15% !

VA, believe that it may be possible, provided President-Elect Trump can avoid insulting more people and acting a dumb-ass like much his comments while on the campaign trail. The ball is now in his court, so he better show more good old common sense. I believe that he will do so. We may hit 22,000 or better by end of 2017. if he can really get his reconstruction program off to a very strong start. Of course, that's looking ahead and there may be ruts in the road along the way. He just may turn out to be a pleasant surprise for investors.
