The purpose of the universe, as far as modern science can discern, is to enable philosophy students (and even lowly theology "students") with a passing interest in elective science courses to achieve a decent GPA or to develop talking points to promote their personal agenda.

What difference does it make, the scale? What is out there could be a million times the size and it still wouldn't matter. Your perspective is all wrong.
