I didn't do so well this weekend. Lots of stress and PMS week. I could eat and eat. I will work out today. It's the start of a new week.

got a nice surprise this morning when I checked in with a co-worker. she did the size-up look, and asked if I'd lost weight over vacation. um....thanks! actually, stuff feels a little tight, so I'm thinking no, but that number on the scale yesterday says otherwise. maybe I just shrunk a few items in the dryer. lol....yeah, that's it.

poll question - what's the consensus on pesto? I mean, it's herbs, nuts, garlic, and olive oil and parmesan cheese . do you think it's a good food, or a bad one? just curious. for dinner tonight, I had a grilled chicken sandwich on ciabatta bread, vine-ripe tomato, pesto, and a slice of provolone. the chicken was thin-sliced cutlet, S/P seasoned. oh, and a glass of prosecco to celebrate that I now know that once my department's reorganization happens, I will finally have a new boss!!

Mmmmm.... pesto. I think it should be ok on occasion, in moderation. I don't think I'd put it in the "bad food" category, per se ... just be aware that it can be high fat + high calorie.

Last week wasa crappy PMS week. I gained the 3 poulds I lost the prior week (thank you bloating) and then lost it so far this week. I've started a new exercise class 2x/wk and after I heal from the fall down the stairs, I'll get back on my morning routine. This week is mostly prepackaged foods. I knew on Sunday that there was no way I could stand for a couple of hours or more prepping for the week, so I bought a bunch of pre-made meals. Better than fast food at least.

Hello all,
Any vegetarians here? I'm a big time yo-yo dieter and I've tried many methods of weight loss in my lifetime. So far the only thing that works consistently for me is high volume veggie diet: mostly vegetables and fruits, beans/tofu/plant proteins, 4 oz of yogurt in the morning, and occasional fish.
Every 6 months or so, I get insanely bored with this diet and think maybe I should eat more protein and less carbs from fruit. So I try that for a while, feel miserable and gain weight. I'm coming off of that now...
I'm currently 5'3", 125 lbs with a goal of 118 - 120 lbs. At this time last year, I was 125 and got down to 118 by eating clean, around 1,000 calories/day (sedentary job), strength training 3x/week and jogging 3 - 5 miles 3x/week.
I'm also recovering from a back (muscle) injury, but I hope to be back in the gym (elliptical) next week and back to jogging (treadmill) soon after that.
Is anyone else looking to lose just 5 lbs?

I finally had time to read through all these. I'm in too. About two years ago I lost 37# (that I had gained with having the kids). I've managed to keep it off, and ready to get off the next 36#. That would put me at my college weight.
I'm walking a half marathon in May, so I have double motivation to get my arse moving.

This morning I managed to lose 5 or 6 lbs. )) I got on the scales and weighed w/o any clothes on and then went to the doctor for a yearly checkup. Their scales were 5 lbs less and I was fully clothed! Hoo Ray!! Unfortunately I need to lose at least 40 lbs. I decided that I need a food intake that is reasonable and allows me to have pretty much what I want. I eat fairly healthy, but I just eat too much. After a little thought, I've decided that I am going on my newly created "One Diet." I like cream in my coffee, so I'll have one cup of coffee w/cream. I'll have one biscuit or one piece of cornbread (I'm southern). I'll have one glass of wine and if my wine glass is big, I'll have 1/2 glass of wine. I'll have one helping and no seconds. I'll have one scoop of ice cream, etc. In addition to this, I'll try to walk 3 times around the Mall (2.25 miles) as many days a week that I can fit into my schedule. Hopefully that will be at least 3 times a week. I'll try these tactics for one month to see if I lose any weight. Anyone got any other ideas for my "One Diet?"

lyn421 -- That is a wonderful start to the new year! I had an idea that might work for your "One Diet" theme. Why not try to do one thing each day that's a step in the right direction... walk up one flight of stairs, make one extra lap around the grocery store before checking out, park one row further from the door, etc...

lyn - to keep my weight in check, I make adjustments one at a time. I went from being a 2-bowl of cereal girl, to a 1-bowl per day. That was the only change I made for 3 months. It took time to get used to it, but now it is horrible to eat that second bowl, I feel all gross and bloated. After that was over, I decided to cut pop out of my diet. I was sort of a junkie, so it was a big deal. It took a long time to get used to not getting the 2 pm soda. Now, even a little pop tastes so sugary and weird that I can barely drink half a can.
So, maybe you can work on fixing one of your meals, or one of your snacks. If dinner is usually a gravy covered pound of meat with a huge helping of mashed potatoes - maybe you fix it so you eat 1/4 pound of meat, 1/2 cup of starch and 1 cup of vegetables. And you just try to fix your dinner for 3 months or so. After that, move onto lunch - or vice versa. It will take much longer, but you will have a better chance of long-term success.

Hi everyone. Was in training at work and did not have time to check in. It's PMS week for me. So while I have been eating hearty I have been trying to eat healthy foods. I didn't work out on Wednesday due to work issues. Will work out Friday.

Hey great ideas. Thanks Caddy and Thyme4change! I've started "one" weight loss book. I'm using a 3-ring binder to keep track of exercise, food, weight, and ideas.
I look forward to reading these posts for ideas, encouragement and inspiration. Tell me what has worked for you. I'm all ears!

Another thing that works for me, a fruit or vege at every meal, and at dinner the vege is half the plate. It isn't a slam dunk, but a cup of green beans has about 50 calories, and a cup of mashed potatoes has about 200 calories. So, which should take up the most real estate on your plate?

I'm down another lb. 4 so far this month. I usually don't count mid-week, but w/ my eating more prepackaged foods this week, I'm shocked. Had to share the news!

I've been trying to follow a lowercarb lifestyle. Not atkins, but trying to avoid noodles, rice, chips, and breads because they all make me feel fat and I can get the fiber I need from fruit. I've been doing well since last Friday until today, I ate a coworkers chips! They were delicious. Anyway, I'm glad to see this support group

I know there are different strokes for different folks - but I want to cry when I see that people avoid bread and pasta. Those are two of my favorites! Cheese is another. I just want to hold someone when they tell me they are lactose intolerant. To me, it is like hearing that their Mom died or something.

I don't diet. I just go with the everything in moderation idea, and try to watch what I eat. I couldn't do low carb, I really like bread. Especially a fresh baked sourdough {wipes droll off the keyboard} I'd give up for sure if I couldn't have it all. Kudos to those it works for. Find what works for you, that you are willing to stick with, and go for it.
I walked at lunch. Better than nothing since I won't have a chance to work out tonight.

I was chasing my kids around the house last night and got winded. We have a pretty small house - so that is bad news.

Thyme4change, that's how I feel when people tell me they don't like soda. I drink Diet Coke morning, noon and night and I do not like water at all. I still eat cheese. I can't give up everything.
When my mom makes her famous spaghetti, I eat it! and I will only eat one bowl - a big one though, and I gain weight everytime. It will take me two weeks to get that bowl of spaghetti off. I have identified the culprits for me. I don't know why my body has to store all of the good food in bad places.

Um- because if your body stored the bad food in good places, you would have brussel sprouts for boobs. ;D

"brussel sprouts for boobs" - Hehehe-agilemom! Maybe that's what happened to mine. ) So far my "One" diet is going alright. I've stuck to it. Tonight I had 1 cup of spaghetti w/1 cup of Caesar salad (lite dressing) and 1 slice of garlic bread (olive oil and real garlic). Today I took the advice of Thyme4change and Caddy. I walked an extra lap at the mall (made it 3 miles) and walked up 3 floors to my Mother's apartment in a retirement home rather than taking the elevator. I worked to make my dinner less fattening by draining the fat off the browned hamburger and rinsing w/water. I also cooked the onions and green peppers in broth rather than oil. I am planning on cutting my salt intake (slowly). Any other ideas for my diet of "One?"

My goal for January is to lose 5 pounds. So far, I've lost 2.6 pounds ... and I'm hoping to lose another 2.4 pounds in the next 10 days ... but who knows? The scale doesn't always cooperate. But I did bike 17 miles today because the weather was so nice and sunshiney.
Today's veggies: romaine, carrots, red peppers, tomatoes, jicama, broccoli, zucchini and green beans. Today's proteins: salmon, turkey, egg whites, shrimp.

214.5 this morning. That puts me at 47 pounds lost since the spring.

seamehyde - congrats on the restarant. Maybe you should try to incorporate a couple dishes on your menu that are vegetarian (and actually vegetable based, not just anti-meat) or do a couple "healthy meals" and have an estimated calorie count. That would help remind you every day that health is still important.

Another thing that works for me, a fruit or vege at every meal, and at dinner the vege is half the plate. I totally agree with this. For me at least, maintaining my weight is adding foods (vegetables and high-water fruits) almost more than taking food away. If I've been overeating/gaining, I eat tons of fruit/veg to stay full on fewer calories while my stomach contracts. After a week of this, I naturally just eat less because I'm not hungry anymore.

Hi everyone! Can I join this thread? I've got about 15 pounds I'm trying to lose (I put on 15 pounds in 6 weeks after I had a miscarriage back in May). I'd love to have a support group! DH just doesn't understand. He can eat 300 calories a day and lose weight!

So, frugalnurse - here is my deal. I could lose 15 pounds too. I could probably lose 20 - but let's not get carried away.
So, today is January 21st. 15 weeks from now is May 6th. Traditionally, we have a Cinco-de-Mayo party which is the official opening of pool-party season. 15 weeks, 15 pounds. Bathing suit season.
Are you with me?
