take it easy on the knee, TN Walker. Don't want to mess up all the work you've had done!
good job on getting to the gym. Ours was closed 3 days this week due to ice & snow. And they are closed Monday for MLK. I've still managed to get in my workouts at home.

I have very little quad muscle so I can do the stationary bike and the elliptical on a very low setting for a short time. I belong to Anytime so it is nice it isn't ever closed, but the snow storm last night did make getting there today a bit interesting.

I haven't exercised since September. I need to get back to the gym. I did a 10k once, I want to do another one, but I am way out of shape. I will go to the gym on Saturday, I really will!

Insanity is an exercise program I believe I have been back on the wagon with working out for the past few weeks - reeeeally trying to lose a few lbs & tone up before the summer! This week I went to yoga (hatha) Tuesday, worked out Wednesday (cardio + machines) and I went to yoga (power) again last night because I had the evening off. Going to start hiking again within a month or two hopefully, I'm getting some equipment so I can do it during the winter. Will be going to the gym again this afternoon after work, once this stupid blizzard stops...

A little of both.
Actually, we have Insanity. I call it boy-aerobics. You pretty much just jump around your living room for 8 weeks. Better than not jumping around your living room for 8 weeks.

still doing 2-a-days 5 or 6 days a week; only 1 workout on Sunday. I did spin class followed by body pump this morning. I may give up on body pump until the class thins out. Too many rude people, arriving late, expecting folks to rearrange to suit them. If one more person had asked me to move to another area of the room, I would have moved on out the door. Maybe...they could arrive ON TIME sorry for the rant, but this is my least favorite time of the year at the gym. I don't mind explaining how to use the eqpt at all. I volunteer to help if somebody seems unsure. Just show a little consideration...wipe up your sweat, return the free weights to the racks, don't sit on a machine visiting with your workout partner, KWIM?

Thanks G.GA Peach. Can you tell me how many steps you take when running stadium stairs? I would do them on the Precor stair stepper, jogger, runner mach.
I went to a tennis social last night and had great fun doing cardio and aerobics beyond what I thought I was capable of. We do drills where you play a point and depending on whether you win or lose, you run over to the winners side and play until you lose so many points or go to the back of the line until your turn comes up again.
Then the sweetest words, hit the showers. My second shower that day where I didn't have the correct things.

Artemus - the bleachers that I've been running are the really old wooden ones in an old basketall gym. There are 12 rows, but I don't know how many times I ran up them. I really like running those old bleacher seats because they are taller than a step. recently I've had a day or two where I really didn't feel like working out. I made myself at least start my workout. Sometimes I stuck with it, sometimes I only made it thru half. Now I'm back to really enjoying my workouts. I did 20 minutes on the elliptical this morning. This afternoon, I met my running partner for an outdoor run (a little cool, but it was sunny & felt so good to be outside) then I did a pretty intense leg workout. My next 5k is on Feb 2nd. I'm really hoping to set a new personal best blocked due to malware/_-Zf4LygTF9c/SjPUL4eIQdI/AAAAAAAAAUg/Eu6y8NmXE7Q/s400/Boy+and+Dog+Praying.jpg[/img]

Thanks Peach. I had a reli that ran the stadium stairs in Baltimore, MD, but I don't remember how many. We are a bit on the outs right now or I'd ask. I'm trying to do one thorough workout a day at a fitness center. I have an ill reli so I am trying to get myself exercised 6 days a week. I am switching programs from an old 12-minutes a day wieght program to a full body 3 day a week. The 12-minutes doesn't include the cardio, ball or stretching. Edit. Monday: Treadmill routine kinda sucked. The treadmill would quit at a certaiin level. Switched and it happened again. I continue to dislike jog/run. Bottom line is I was there.

So, my husband and I have been doing the Insanity program this week. We started Monday, so of course yesterday was day 3 - which is when everything hurts the worst. We decided to do it before dinner. My 8 year old daughter wanted to join us - I think so she could show us that she is in better shape than us. She looked so cute jumping around doing the exercises. It helped to get started, but she was very distracting, because I just wanted to watch her.

Ask and I will receive. I have a muffin top issue and needed a program specifically for that. Fitness Magazine dot com has an entire list of workouts and the muffin was one of them. I also looked at arms and Pilates basic moves video.
I had a k.a. workout even though I was trying to avoid the paint smell. I used dumb bells while doing 20 second interval sprints on the recombant stationary bike. I don't know how many intervals I did as I was more interested in the arm movements.
I borrowed a lower ab move from watching a stick figure. Use a bosu ball placed close to the wall rump on floor, so your knees touch the wall with yoga cross leg. Lean back and bounce up. That hits the lower abs actually sucking them in. Delighted.
Congrats Peach on a p.b.

Hi, I'm going to jump in here as it's good motivation and discussion. I work out 3-4 days a week in a variety of ways. Monday I did zumba 1.25 hrs, today is body pump class at the gym (kills me).
BTW - people come in late to our class all the time, but never really disturb people or interrupt the flow so I don't think it's a big deal where I'm at. If someone asked me to move after I got all my equip. set up I'd be really annoyed.
And I have P90x but it is so killer I can't get through the 90 days so just do a dvd on occasion to supplement other stuff. I'm going to ask for the ChaLean series from the same company for my birthday cause it looks good and doable. I just can't commit to min. one hour a day six days a week.

Doing well, considering leg surgeries last month. Pretty much back to normal in terms of intensity and regularity with exercise. Quite happy with my running times at this point.

How far are you running? Workout-wise, 10-20 miles a week, depending on the event I am preparing for. My next event is an 8K.

I did great on my running over the summer because I had a 5k in August, and one in October but that was a fun one so time didn't matter. Dropped right off the wagon in October after the fun run and have only gone jogging maybe three times since Put a few lbs on, realized it & got angry, have dropped the few lbs off again with stricter controls on what/how much I'm eating, but I have to at least get back to a few times weekly jog. I did 2 miles and sometimes 3 to get ready for the 5ks, 2 miles is a standard jog for me (I'm really slow, like 10:30-11m miles) I was going to a yoga class over the summer that I loved, but I stopped because I have some shoulder thing going on. I noticed it in June and kind of ignored it because I thought it would go away, but it's slowly been getting worse. Can't even wash my hair without it hurting. I have a physical tomorrow and hopefully she can refer me to PT or some exercises to help it, I'm afraid it's some rotator cuff related thing but we'll see what she says. I thought yoga would probably not be good for it... oddly enough I thought lots of violin would aggravate it, but I feel it almost makes it feel slightly better for a few days, like I'm stressing an opposite muscle while playing, so the injured area doesn't hurt as much because of that? I don't know. We'll see, I'd like to get back to yoga if I can because it's mentally and physically good for me. Good thread to see what everyone else is doing and try to stay motivated! I am currently motivated to do absolutely nothing. I'll keep up to date here and you all can make me feel lazy until I get my ass in gear again.

PI: Is Insanity an exercise routine or mental issue? It looks like people already answered the question. . It's through the same company as P90X, except P90X is more focused on different muscle groups, whereas Insanity seems to be focused on cardio and more of a total body workout IMO. I like it because it focuses on cardio, but also works a lot of different muscle groups. You also don't need any equipment to do it

Doc said it was fine, as long as I wasn't pounding the ground. I could go back to normal running over the weekend. I swore off another race until late next month, even though I am tempted.

Definitely don't want to press too hard, too fast and mess up something that you just had fixed.

It's an ongoing issue: the removal of varicose veins. A very, very long process, unfortunately. But my legs do look and feel better, I must say. Definitely helps the running and cycling. Not sure if it benefits swimming at this point.

How things change from 2011. Where I am at now. My Y membership is comped with my Medicare supplement. I kept my Anytime Fitness membership because the insurance supplement dropped 3 gyms at the start of 2014, and I was afraid they would drop the Y. DH added the racquet center for tennis and additional membership at the aquatic center. I seldom use the AC. Yoga and Zumba at the Y and use Octane Fitness XR6000 bike. I like the endurance setting because the pretty lights show what muscle group is being used and how to position hands and feet as well as a count down for each segment. This bike sits next to the very popular machine that has a side to side motion with the feet. I haven't tried it. I lift weights before tennis twice a week and on Sunday morning early. Wednesday is cardio tennis at noon. I enjoyed doing art classes with background music about 5 times this fall. They are offered weekly but usually fill up fast and some painting subjects I'm not interested in doing. The combination of art and background music is supposed to be good for mental development. The school teaches from toddlers to grammas.

It takes me 10 minutes of running to get a blister somewhere. I am sticking with machines because of that. Oh my goodness. We watched the 2014 Crossfit competition for most of the afternoon. Fronigan won for the 4th straight year. (I probably didn't spell the name correctly.) Those people are animals for exercise. We also watched the team invitational. The U.S. WON ! ! ! ! ! ! !My big win today was finding the tennis shoe I wanted on Amazon and they were half what the makers website was. I ordered 2. Second win was free shipping on vitamins from Puritan.
