It depends -- it could be that you carry it well. People are still shocked when I tell them how much I weighed last year. We already know that you're just a super-skinny guy. Maybe you get a picture of Ghandi as your before pic.

This was me before I started lifting. And this is me now. Sadly, I've let my tan slip a bit, but I'm bulking up quite nicely.

I guess I carry it well - my hips are proportionate to my chest and I still have a waist line (classic hour-glass figure). It's just when your chest measures a 38J - it's not hard to imaging hips that are just as wide.

I weigh 165 and look like a soft, bloated tick. He weighs 215 and looks like a tree trunk carved from iron. If I weighed 215 I think i'd explode.

"The only point I was trying to make was that it makes it more intimidating for people with regular bodies to post their photos for criticism, when even people with great figures are getting improvement advice."
Yeah, I get that but you're way off base. There is a difference between a critique and criticism. Trust me you'll know the difference.

Woohoo!! I don't need to post a before picture.....SK already did it for me!!
JK - but I do look a lot like that (at least to my eyes in the mirror), but my chest is larger. I'm tried to get DH to take pics last night since we're both supposed to be going to the gym for our before pictures, but he didn't want to get off the couch to take them.
I'm going to try again this weekend.......

Ha ha Pig - that's my camera strap. Thanks everyone! I've come a long way but still have a ways to go. Unfortunately I'm starting to suspect that no matter how much I work at it, I'll never lose all the extra skin after being overweight my whole life. And my stomach - ugh. Two kids really did a number on my skin there.

SK, they sell cream that if you use religously will work to tighten your skin back. I forget what it's called I will look it up. How long between the before and after?
Sent you a PM

A cream? Really? I may try that. My goal is health (vs looks) so I don't care about my non-existent breasts or the many other imperfections I have. But oh my god the skin - every time I bend over and see my tummy skin I want to vomit. That's the one thing I would consider plastic surgery for (not that I'll ever do that in reality).
Time frame was two years.

You'll have to take my word for it. I'd offer to take a pic but then everyone would vomit all over their monitors and sue me for damages.

Besides your health and your looks, have you noticed any changes to your life?
Did your spouse or friends or family change the way they treated you? Anybody begin to not like you because you were holding a mirror to their inadequacies? Anyone inspired by you and change their life? How did the weight loss change your family dynamics?
Are you employed? If so, did people treat you different at work?
Do you feel that people treat you differently in other situations?
Just curious - you hear about how skinny people make more money and get better service, and how some marriages can't weather changes - so I'm just wondering if you noticed anything else change while you changed.

Thyme - those are good questions. I think most of my friends/family have been supportive. My DH is incredibly proud of me and says that I've inspired him to get more healthy. I've noticed that my dc (4&6) are more complimentary about my hair/earrings/clothes now that I take the time to make myself more presentable. I don't know if that's because they've gotten older and are more aware in general or if it truly is a reflection of my changes, but the comments are frequent enough that I make a point to look better just as a role model to them.
I've had a few people criticize me for being "too thin" but I don't let it phase me since by every measurement available I'm solidly in the "normal" range (BMI is 22, body fat is 20%). Some people think I've got an eating disorder or something because I no longer eat dairy/gluten (became intolerant) and instead eat tons of protein/veggies/fruits. But their idea of healthy eating is "whole wheat" waffles loaded with butter and syrup. Mostly I just keep my focus on my goals and ignore the comments.
I do think my presence bothers my ILs a bit in that they are pretty unhealthy and when we are together I often don't partake in whatever they are doing. I love them dearly and try never to say anything that would put pressure on them to change (since I don't have any hope of it) but there is a small division when we gather and they're guzzling 600 calorie margaritas and I'm sipping my one glass of wine.
I'm a SAHM so I don't work, but I would say I do feel a bit more visible to the world. I don't know if it is my confidence that initiates more eye contact vs my looks, but I engage with people more now throughout the day. People appear to be more friendly/helpful. For many years I struggled with some issues and preferred to be invisible. Then when ds was dx with autism it took 100% of my energy for a few years and I just had nothing to give myself. But then I got so depleted I had nothing to give the kids...which is when I decided enough was enough. I know I'll never go back to that old self.
Thanks to everyone for your compliments. It is SO unlike me to post pics of my body (I'm pretty reserved) but doing it today (on my bday) has made my fight against aging all that more symbolic and it's been a wonderful bday gift to receive so much support from you all.

skinnykids - you are awesome. That was a great post - honest and informative. I feel like a good friend just said all those things. (Haters - don't hold that against her.) Thanks for the information and the inspiration. I am planning on fish for dinner, but on Friday my husband is likely to talk me into something else (think PIZZA) but after seeing your results and reading your post, I will be able to tell him that we will all be happier if we stick with fish.
Thank you.

Dark - Yay!! You did put yours over here too. You've really bulked up since I've seen you last. Are you wanting to get bigger or just more defined?
You look great and I'm looking forward to seeing how you progress!

I don't really have a clear long term goal right now. My current workout is more of a general strength building deal. Not specifically geared towards bulking up for it's own sake, or getting the super cut bodybuilder thing going. Now, since I started a scrawny dude I'm bulking up from it obviously, but it's not the goal. Right now I'm just focusing on getting to a point where I feel I have an adequate strength foundation. After that, I'll figure out what I want next.
I have to say the belly thing is taking some getting used to though, so I'll probably do at least one intense cardio phase and trim down some. I've spent most of my life skinny enough to have a six pack whether I worked at it or not, so the belly flab thing is freaking me out a bit, but I'm eating like a horse which always happen when I lift.

SK, don't let the haters drag you down with them. You need to do what's best for you and it looks like you are doing that very well.
