<HUGS> Me2, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I'm glad you were able to talk with your Mom. I had the opportunity to say good-bye to my Dad, & it did help with the healing when we lost him. It sounds like the 2 of you had a very close relationship. Prayers to you & your family.

thank you
MK it is a very difficult time.
I am also very sad to say that an old friend of mine lost her 18 year old son to an accident where he was hit by a train. What makes this even move difficult is that about 12 years ago I was in a single mom's bible study, there were about 7 of us who attended. Of the 7 two have lost children to accidents with trains! Where we live the trains are carrying cargo. I grew up on a farm which is next to a train track. I have always hated them. My son's first friend in pre-school was also killed by a train about 10 years ago.
I find myself being angry at myself for being so sad, upset about my mom who lived 83 years. She worked hard, didn't have much when she was younger, but had a very comfortable life for the last 40 years. Then things like my friends 18 year old son is lost. I can't image the grief she is experiencing. I feel guilty, I know I shouldn't but can't help the way I feel.

me2: Give yourself permission to feel what you feel, regardless of what it is. It is a normal part of mourning. Guilt, anger all of it. You are entitled to it. Maybe journaling your feelings will help you get through them. I have had cousins who grew up living right next to train tracks, I always thought they were crazy for having kids so close to them. So sad when a young life is cut short. I had a real hard time when the 16 year old across the street died. It just really hit home with me.

Oh my have the Jan Blahs hit me hard. DS#2 is ill yet again. He has missed over 13 days of school and will miss at least 4 more due to a family vacation and dental work. (He needs his 6 year molars sealed and they have to put him under to do the work. That means not one, not two but THREE appointments for all the work and preop.) Oh and here in MN it is a balmy 0 degrees and feels like it is -21 (Busymom WHY do we live here again?) Kimber can't remember if you are in MN also or not. At least I don't have to go out today, although was out and about last night. A wonderful friend even picked up DD for preschool and is dropping her off. Since DS#2 is in the throwing up illness I am grateful beyond words! Busymom remember when I told you that Jan and Feb are my hard months, this year is proving no different. Although I am looking forward to our vacation in Feb to Wilderness in WI dells! That helps. Stay safe and happy everyone or at least try

Hello all! At least it is warmer here in MN! Although we are getting an inch or two of snow every day. I think I would prefer one big storm and be done with it, but the inches are too bad since I don't have to commute.
How are all doing?
Had a cortisone shot in my shoulder yesterday. REALLY hoping it takes care of the problem. Although had to wait 20 minutes in the lobby even though I was only the 2nd or 3rd appointment of the day so I had to rush so I could get home to my son coming home from Kindergarten. Kinda irritated since I may have asked more questions if I hadn't had to hurry!
Sunday we leave for Wisconsin Dells! Looking forward to that!

Sunday we leave for Wisconsin Dells! Looking forward to that! Hi MittenKitten, down here in NJ I prefer the 1 to 2 inch snows instead of the big storm as it takes sometimes days for things to return to normal and my only paying gig is for a facility that is open around the clock since it is a subacute facility. Luckily I usually only work somewhere in the hours of 8AM to 8PM but if it is a bad storm I know I'll get a call and have to make the decision on what's the best answer given I only make $10/hr. and damage to a tire or wheel will set me back hundreds. I think the cool thing about Minnesota is it was one of the first states I visited on a semi-regular basis that the default was non-smoking restuarants. Happened sometime while I was going to Purdue, whenever that was. I hope you enjoy the Wisconsin Dells. I haven't been there since I was fairly young, probably 10 or under so not much memory of it. What will you do in the Dells in February? (Personally I'd want to visit the Kohler store/factory/hotel and bathe in luxury and stay warm. ) Happy Tuesday all. I think it will remain interesting, i.e. do the best you can to stay happy, until at least April or so where we might all catch some of a break but who knows. Right now when someone asks me how I am my stock answer is "I'm alive". If I feel good enough my stock follow up sentence is "Later I'll figure out why that is a good thing. I'm on day 13 of my 14 day course of antibiotics which I will manage to stretch to I think 16 days as I can't remember what end is up with the stress at work, the extreme cold snap, and finishing up bankruptcy stuff, etc. Still, I try to look at some of the patients doing very badly IMO, so I remind myself I am doing much better than I think.

Optimist, here it is usually a day or less if we get a foot of snow and everything is up and running. The little snows just mean shoveling every day and lovely traffic for every day vs just one. The roads were a MESS today.
And it just keeps pouring in my world. DS#2 was sick the WHOLE time. Even took him to urgent care where they tried a nebulizer. Oh that was just LOTS of fun, DF and I holding him down as we tried to keep this mask on an almost 7 YO who doesn't understand what is happening and wants the mask off.... The kids' doctor office absolutely refuses to help unless they see the kids and just irritated me when I called. I mean I could tell there is nothing in his lungs, he has this irritating cough but it wasn't a phlemy cough ya know. Give me something to help get through a couple of days and I will bring him in if he is not better. But nope not them "we can't do anything under best practice" Yeah, for you and your companies bottom line cause I can tell you it is not in your patient's best interest. I like the kids' doctor but may need to find a new practice.... I can do evisits for MY doctor why can't they do them for the kids?
Anyways he is not contagious so sent him to school and had to pick him up a half an hour later. He is home and barely coughing.... Oh and the cough medicine with codeine I got he won't take, I end up wearing it instead.
I think I am going to start drinking now.....

Thanks for the support h2h. So DS#2 is FINALLY healthy. BUT on his second day back into the swing of things, he now has ring worm...... One more day out of school/therapy/day treatment..... Had my 14 anniversary with DF, but am really feeling crummy. Early bath and bed for me. At least after 14 years we don't have any real high expectations of what/how we are going to do for our anniversary.

Mittenkitten, I hope you're not getting what your kids had, with the coughing. There's been a lot of stuff going thru the schools. Sorry to hear your kid's doctor hasn't been more helpful. I think I live south of Kimber. With 2 more sNOwstorms on the way, I cannot wait until spring finally gets here. But, thankfully March will finally be here the end of next week, & then maybe one or two more blizzards, & we should be done with the snow til next winter. I agree with all the cold weather I'd like to be able to hibernate until the weather improves!

Biz, I'm in west central. Hopefully March is the end of it, but I have seen winter storms as late as the end of April. Fortunately when they come that late in the season, the sNOw doesn't last long.

kimber: So are you west of St Cloud then? Or more like Wadena?
It does seem like we can get hit with some nasty snow storms come March, and unfortunately the ground needs all the water it can get. Especially southern MN, so can we just ship the majority of the snow coming there?
DS#2 is doing great. I went to sleep at 10:30 last night and got up and got DS#1 on the bus and DS#2 up for the day, went back to bed for an hour, got DD up for preschool. Came back home and was back in bed for another 1.5 hours. Neck is sore but I do feel a little better. Or course I also haven't eaten anything yet....
Oh and most importantly I will be registering my baby for fall Kindergarten tonight. YIKES when did she get so big?

Pretty close, we are north of St. Cloud and west of Wadena we are in Otter Tail County

Cool. I grew up in Minneapolis and 9 years ago we moved to St Michael. Love the area and the schools. I couldn't imagine having kids in the cities, especially since I know how bad the schools are since I worked there for 10 years and my mom worked there for 30 years.
Is your area beautiful?
So are we in MN tired of shoveling yet? I know I am.

Me, me, me! I'd rather be shoveling dirt in my garden than snow... Mitten, so you were raised as a city kid too? What is it about growing up in a large city that makes us want to move further away? Been there, done that.... I'd rather live in the burbs, or out in the country, rather than be cooped up in the city. At least we didn't get as much snow as was in the forecast. Now if the Monday-Tuesday storm goes easy on us, I'll be one happy lady!

Good Afternoon all! It is a beautiful day here, the snow is melting, my DS#2 went to school and day treatment today and is doing well. DD has a bug but so far it isn't too bad.
Heart: So glad to see you again!
Kimber: Sounds beautiful. One thing with a nonverbal autistic son I gave up was hiking, but would love to do it again. The idea of him running off in the woods scares me to death. He is on a waitlist for a service dog and I am hoping once we get one it will make our lives more free. Would love to take the kids to Taylor's Falls, Fort Snelling (I grew up hiking all around there) Lake Maria State Park etc.
Busy: Where did you grow up? You are in Anoka now right? Seeing all the crime, the welfare abuse, the bad attitude of so many in poverty, the pollution..... Just a few reasons I wanted out. Not to mention in Minneapolis Public Schools they were so worried about the minorities passing the basic standards everything else went out the window, although I will give them points for a great special education system. So GLAD we moved out here! I know of one gal who moved out of this area to the cities and loves it. She also has 3 young kids....

MK, no, I'm east of there. But you've got the correct county. I got a good education growing up in the "big city", but my old schools & neighborhood have deteriorated more than I'd want to deal with. At least when it comes to raising kids. I need more "elbow room", and more fresh air, not to mention a low crime rate. Thinking long-term, we're either going to move out even further, or (my preference) somewhere warmer. I think that's so cool that your DS is getting a service dog. We got one thru a rescue organization, because a therapist highly recommends dogs for autistic kids. Dogs kind of force you to make eye contact. The kids picked out our "Bad Boy Puppy". He is SO GOOD with my son. It's like he knows DS is autistic. If DS plays a little too rough with him, the dog never nips him. He just gives him a low level growl, like a hint to "knock it off". I'm loving all the snow melting today. It does give me a big of Spring fever, 'tho....
