I can have depressed friends. Tell your friend to take all of her clothes off, wait for a rainy night and run the streets wild and free...just make sure she makes it back home. You could be following her in your car. It is always a wonderful thing to expose yourself to the world and proclaim..."HERE I AM". like it or not. Is nudity the cure to depression?

That's not even remotely funny for anyone who suffers from S.A.D. or gets the winter blues.

Hey all!
Been a rough month. My aunt died and my mom is taking it real hard. First she was in ICU so that was stressful also.
Trying to plan a long weekend get away with out the kids or DF, may take my sister. I would love to be able to fly someplace warm but those logistics might get to be very challenging.
Have a happy day all!

<HUGS> to everyone who has a family member who is battling an illness or disability. I'm feeling better now that the sun is shining again. It's hard to be upbeat when it's dark & gloomy outside. I'm doing a task that cheers me up. Baking!

I CAN'T WAIT 'til we're past the shortest day of the year. If it wasn't for Christmas, December would be a difficult month to get through (for me). Don't like all this darkness, but at least at the end of next week, daylight will gradually increase again.

Busy, I actually looked at my Freebie Jewish calendar earlier in the week and for me I think the worst might be past. The earliest sunset on a Friday of this month happened last Friday at 4:10PM EST in NYC. It will be 4:13PM on the 'shortest day of the year' so for me slightly better. I'm not a fan of the disappearing light either. Christmas hasn't been a big help for me but I'm glad it is for you. I have chosen to work Christmas just like Thanksgiving. I figure it beats sitting at home and not celebrating.

I still have problems with Jan and Feb. I think it is because it can be so nasty out weather wise in MN that I just don't get out. I am doing very well this year and not sure why but not complaining. I am blessed to have what I do, the future is uncertain but I know I will survive it and be strong. My kids love me and are secure, my relationship is secure, I have a house and while food is getting expensive I know I can figure that out.
I would like for my family to get well. My nonverbal autistic son has been sick for 7 days. Nothing to take him in for but he missed 4 days of school and is just wiped out. Poor guy. My DD and Dear Fiance are also ill but seem to be on the mend.
Happy holidays everyone and stay well and happy (if you can!)

Hopefully they will both feel better soon...I will keep them both in my prayers. Happy Holidays to you, as well and hope you get out of that "moody blues' stage, soon. Know how debilitating that can be, hon. Stay strong. I reckon we all have our heartaches and hardships but just gotta keep pressing on...You are strong and will be fine. I am here, if you need me.

It could be S.A.D. (Seasonal Affective Disorder) giving you the winter blues. The lack of sunlight (shorter days) and cold weather can effect our mood. I've been using special S.A.D. lighting and sound therapy in the winter for the last couple of seaons and it's really improved my "blues". Here's a couple of links to some similar products to what I've been using- re: lighting and sound therapy - you can do other online searches by typing in "S.A.D" lighting therapy" or "S.A.D. sound therapy" - these are just examples: ________________________________________ northernlighttechnologies.com/# www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-CONAIR-Sleep-Therapy-Sound-Machine-White-noise-SU1W-/181045468024?________________________________________ With the sound therapy machines, you can pick the sound you want for background noise (ie: tropical forest, rainfall, thunderstorm, nature (birds), waterfall, - etc. and control the volume. I have one on my end-table in the bedroom - and the sounds can lull me to sleep so I rest & sleep better, and wake up more refreshed in the short days of winter. They really are a big help to get rid of the doldrums and winter blues.

Tis the season to be depressed, or at least I am. My mom was in the hospital for over a week, didn't know if...well, you know. She is doing better and now is in a nursing home. It is tough to lose a parent, I have been so so worried about losing my mom. I know it is the cycle of life, but...it is hard. I should cherish the time I do have with her, but I am in constant state of worry. This isn't a good thing for someone who suffers from depression already.
My 'lights' in my life; my son and granddaughter, plus my daughter in law went to a 'Santa's town' and did a hayride through the parks Christmas lights. I was almost in tears on the hayride watching my son hold is daughter and the little one saying 'look daddy...look daddy'. That is what life should be about.
When I am with them I feel good...I feel full. Right now I feel nothing, I dig my fingernails into my skin to 'feel' something. I know I have a lot to be thankful for but I feel lost.
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday, I will try to myself. I will be with my family so I am sure Christmas will be a good day. I can't wait to see my granddaughter open her presents! I know she will be excited, I love her 'excited' face! It is so precious! She is precious.

scottish: Thanks for the links, yes I have SAD and have had since I was a kid. I figured it out in my early 20s (my mom wasn't the type to help figure things out for me or make my life better.) I take lots of vitamin D and use my lightbox in winter.
The flu hit us hard, DS#2 was out of school for 2 WEEKS! He got better just in time for Xmas. I finally took all 3 kids into the doc. DS#2 they couldn't do anything for but he did have a fever, DD had an ear infection and DS#1 was okay so I had them give him the flu mist. We didn't have DSS come over at all one weekend since everyone was ill. I was able to arrange care for DS#2 so I took DD and DS#1 to the North Shore (Duluth MN) we played in a water park, saw some awesome lights and enjoyed playing around the shore and watching lake Superior.
Me2: Hope things are going better. Did you get to spend time with your family over the holidays? When my DS#1 came into my room late because he had to share something with me I am happy that he feels that comfortable doing so and wants to share things with me. I would like it a little more if were able to do so earlier then midnight but I can't control his insomnia, although I do try. Sad when he is dealing with this at the age of 9 and has his entire life.
Femme: How ya doing? I am doing better this year but like I said we will see what Jan and Feb bring. Feb we are going on a family vacation to Wisconsin dells so that should help.
We had an awesome holiday and no drama. Things were crazy before hand but we got it all to work out. My nonverbal autistic son opened his presents and had a blast. He cuddled up with my DSIS and BIL and they LOVED that. DS#2 has only started opening up his presents in the last year, so it is nice to see.

Hiya MittenKitten! Glad Christmas went so well at your house. Me2: My Mom is on the decline too. Not an easy thing to navigate. Both the hospital & the nursing home told me she'd be long gone by now, so having her for one more Christmas was a bonus. Still, they've been warning me when she goes, it'll be quick. So, whenever they call, I kind of expect the worst... One day at at time. Since we're finally past the shortest day of the year, I'm trying to think happy thoughts.

Busy: Sorry to hear of your mom's health. Tough to deal with that and everything else life throws at you!
Doing well but now I am dealing with Insomnia for some reason. I go through spurts every now and again but thankfully they are usually pretty short. If I could find a medication that would put me to sleep but wear off quickly that would be nice. I have had 2 prescriptions that knock me out so bad I just can't get up in the morning. One was for anxiety/getting to sleep (Trazadone) the other was to prevent migraines (topamine)
Of course last night was challenging. My 9 YO was in our room after 12:30, then I couldn't sleep and ended up with my 4 YO in bed with me around 4:00. I did sleep after she joined me but I SO hate sleeping with the kids!

It is with great sadness that I tell you that my mom passed Dec 28th. She had been doing better but took a turn for the worse and went fairly fast. On Wed Dec 26th I visited her. We talked about my granddaughter, my mom's cows, the weather. She thanked me for staying and visiting with her. The last thing I told her was that I loved her. That was the last time I got to talk to her. I was with her in the hospital as she passed away. She didn't speak in the hospital but she did open her eyes some and she knew we were there. I could see the pain in her eyes and the sorrow she felt that she was going to leave us soon. She is no longer in pain, she is no longer sick. My mom was surrounded by 4 of her 5 kids, 2 son-in-laws, granddaughter and 2 grandson's as she passed. Everyone got to say goodbye on Thursday...all of her kids, all of her grandchildren, and all but 2 of her great-grandchildren (the 2 youngest - 1 & 2 year old). Rest in peace mom.
Busy: you are in my thoughts and prayers....
