We all have a different perspective. I don't think femme was saying that it isn't an issue. I think she was just pointing out that we also have another support thread on the subject of addiction in particular.

To help cope with depression i suggest, cleaning! There is something very therapeutic about simply cleaning out a junk drawer or putting a nice polish on a room. I find that when i get in the doldrums, that isn't the time for me to lie down but a good time to set about getting busy and cleaning the refrigerator or whatever else needs done.

Drug AND alcohol dependency can greatly contribute to depression - just as much depression can lead to drug and/or alcohold dependence. As I mentioned before (maybe on this thread, maybe another), I have first-hand experience dealing with someone who went through both - and spoke to the professionals regarding that person's troubles - there is a VERY strong connection between the two --- so it's on topic, as far as discussing depression.

Your avatar is beautiful, Roselia. It's so calming. lol - thank you, Lassie. I actually love roses and butterflies. It's all in the moniker. I believe with some posters, the monikers reflect our personalities. 'Roselia', the Queen of Roses.

Shooby, your puppy pictures, cute as they are, have been moved off the thread. the thread in general has not had pictures posted on it regularly. thus, they're really not necessary and don't contribute to the topic.

I find 'nature sighting' very uplifting. The bright sun rays during the day are good enough to make me smile.

Sounds - I have a sound therapy machine that I keep beside my bed on the end table. I can choose a soothing sound to help relax & sleep - anything from trickling stream, rushing river, tropical birds, waterfall, falling rain, or thunderstorm - it also produces white noise. About 1/2 hr (or more, give or take) before Im wanting to be asleep, I prop myself in bed, grab a book and turn it on to whatever sound I want to hear to play in the background.
The reading lets my mind go to another place, and the sounds in the background do the soothing. Usually within about 15-30 min, I'm relaxed enough to sleep peacefully, without the day's worries to keep me tossing & turning. It helps me have a brighter outlook on my day when I wake.

shooby: Many post pictures over on the good morning, afternoon night thread, so that would be a good place for them. Unless something has changed in the last few weeks I was off the threads.
Yikes, the last few weeks have been crazy, and the last week the kids were crazy. Thus I am now crazier then I was. Tomorrow our new normal schedule will be fully in place. Today I am busy running around like a chicken with it's head cut off.
Am sad though that it is the first day of school and Michaela will not be entering 11th grade. I will have to call her mother, I am sure today was an extremely difficult day for her. Michaela, was the 16 YO young lady that died on July 1st while out running here in MN. Wonderful girl.

Hello all, I see it's been "interesting" here. Scottish Lassie, my prayers, thoughts and condolences, to you and yours on both the addiction and deppression fronts. I know addiction well, the two can run hand in hand. Sadly..... No amount of "help" be it intervention, 12 step, DR, etc. Will help unless the one afflicted choses help. This is why any "recovery" can only offer maybe 20% success. In real terms for every addict like myself who manages to get some clean time, 11 plus yrs in my case, 5 more will die of the disease. That is so very sad. Prayers to all. By the way, I'm not "cured" What I have is a daily reprieve, I have tools to cope, I have a choice, provided I do what I'm supposed to do. I no longer "whiteknuckle" but ever vigillante I'll be. Getting Sober, dealing with my issues, including the deppression of the Knowledge of what I'd done, who I'd hurt, etc. Was the hardest thing I've ever done. I've lost friends and family to the disease, people who just gave up, and were consumed. Now back to my addiction thread, I'm done

Hiya Kids! Mitten! I'm glad you checked in. I've been thinking about you this week, with back to school & all. My DS's new therapy schedule just started up, & I'm pooped. Shooby, I think cleaning is VERY therapeutic, as long as there's purging of clutter involved. ;D

BTW, what about Seasonal Affective Disorder? Do any of you find you struggle a bit more over the winter?

Thank you, Roy - your words mean a lot - unfortunately, his addiction (alchohol) did end up killing him - a few months ago (which contributed to my depression). He didn't have the strength or willpower to fight his own demons - no matter how much help was offered AND given - by everyone including the professionals. I wish you well on your path forward and know in my heart of hearts that you have the strength to continue going in the right direction.
Blessed be to you.

It has been a bad year for losing our friends here. I don't care for winter. The days are already getting noticeably shorter here. I REALLY don't like it when the clocks change in the fall, & it's dark when you get up, & dark again shortly after the kids get home.
