busy: Yeah, have those he is very persistent on sleeping UNDER the mattress cover. As he is sleeping directly on the mattress I am hesitant to put any chemicals on it. I used a perioxide, baking soda mixture. He is under a waiver so I may see if I can get him a new one next year. Hopefully this phase will pass soon! Hope your son likes his new school and does well. How old is he? What is his diagnoises? I know you mentioned about him before but I can't remember the details. (I figure I am lucky to know my own name most days lol)
heart: Thanks! You are such a wonderful person to know. Your personality and pictures brighten my days.

Mittenkitten, check your PM's. What a blessing that you've got him on the waivers. They're nearly impossible to get here now... Would it be safe if he slept in a sleeping bag on top of his mattress? It sounds like he's seeking some deep pressure. Wish they could tell us more of what they're thinking...

Heart2heart, it's time to hit the beach! ;D It's actually hot enough here to go there. I haven't checked the temp, but it did a huge jump today. It's supposed to hit the 90's (2 months early)! Besides the usual cleaning, I've spent the afternoon trying to organize some things. I need more days like this to get stuff done!

Guess what, Busy? I did!! Go to the beach that is. Wasn't in the plans at all, but ended up at the beach with family and a few friends.. I had a wonderfully warm time. The temp was 87 degrees.. A bit too warm for my blood. Today the temps are reaching between 91-93 degrees. I am up with all my windows and doors open to bring the night air indoors and make good use of it before the AC cranks up again, full force. It's going to be a very warm day.. Way too early. Hope you're enjoying the holiday today if it applies..

Today was better and very productive. Kids are enjoying the pool we got them, especially my autistic one. He immediately started jumping into it from the top of the climber, so from about 4.5 feet up. Better them jumping from there onto the ground I guess. Also got a lot more of the garage clean and things ready for the garage sale. With me luck on the garage sale, that is our summer fun money! Starts this Thursday.

Oh, Mitten.. I love digging through garage sale treasures.. If I were near I would definitely patronize yours. I hope you make boat loads of summer fun money.. Yesterday, I saw soooo many kiddies and adults in the water trying to find relief from the early summer-like temps.. My area reached 92 yesterday with high humid conditions .. It was a hot hot hot one.. Glad your children enjoyed themselves in their new pool!

Good Morning Everyone . We had a couple warm days too, but today is rather windy and chilly (only 50) sounds like a warm up for the weekend though.

I like a good garage sale too. But, I really need to HAVE another sale to find new homes for the toys my kids have outgrown. (I never get rid of the stuffed animals, 'tho, without asking the kids first. They're special.) I plan to declutter more, as time allows this summer.

Wanted to say hello and hope everyone is doing well!
Garage sales....ARGH!!! makes me want to run screaming! I use to go to them all the time! Fun finding things...BUT HAVING THEM.... UGH! Had a few in my day with my sister-in-law and a few friends...NEVER again! I take my stuff to goodwill now.
We had people steal things from the garage sale, and then some people would change price tags on items! $3 wasn't cheap enough??? I had them when my son was younger and would get rid of the clothes he outgrew and his toys.
I have a cold/sinus infection...they are the worst in summer! Well...it is summer for us down here! Not looking forward to the warm temps. It will be 95 today!!!!! YUCK YUCK YUCK!

Me2: Ours aren't too bad although a lot of work. I have a neighbor from Cameron in Africa who barters with me all the time. A friend told me a of consignment sale she has made a lot of money on with the kids' clothes and toys so I am going to try that. We also had a ton of stuff from my grandmother's house to get rid of. The rest the DAV is picking up on Friday. I only kept 2 boxes for next year. I don't go to them because I already have too much stuff so I don't want to be tempted by more! Hope you get better soon!
Roy: How was camping? We used to go but with an autistic child it just isn't possible!

Oh, Mitten.. I used to take my children last years, school, dress and summer clothes to consignment shops for years and always had a great return. I'd recycle the same dollars to replace their clothes every year.. They've adopted the same habit for some of their clothes they feel are worthy of racking up sales.. The others are given away for the most part. A couple of the consignment shops in my area also sell household items.. My kids have spent the monies made in the consignment shops in the same store to help complete some of their home decor projects.. I haven't been to one in years.. Maybe I'll just take a peek inside one soon. I don't really need any home furnishings though.. I just like wading through others potential treasures for another.. Hey there Me2.. You are not a woman after mine own heart girl when you say things like that about my garage sailing.. For shame! Just having fun with you.. What in the world are people thinking when they come in and steal garage sale items? I'd rather someone come and give me a fake hardship story and ask me for the item than steal the item.. I'd probably hand it right over to them.. Go figure that one out.. You gals and all the rest, have a..

HAHAHA Heart! I always did pretty good at the garage sales. It is work though! I would normally sell all of my son's clothes...with the way he grew...some stuff may have been worn a few times at max. Consignments shops are good way to go. I use to go to one that I loved...they have recently closed Like Mitten...I don't go anymore...I don't need anymore stuff! I don't go shopping much anymore either...don't need anything! except for the basics and to buy my granddaughter things Camping...sounds like fun...I think. I haven't been 'camping camping' in a very long time. I always think about it...my husband has all kinds of stuff...but never go. NOW it is going to be way to hot to go.

Know what? Me2..
I think I may stop in the little consignment shop I pass by nearly everyday today. Not to really make any purchases, like yourself, I don't really need any non essentials, just want to browse..
I'd better get going. I am heading into a 1:30 gathering and don't want to be fashionably late..
See ya later and it is good to see you too.. Enjoy the rest of Tuesday.

I love garage sales, second hand stores, ALL OF IT! So does the wife. We have a blast, but over the years we've stopped buying stuff, because it's "cute" We had way to much CRAP! around. We deal in Barbie dolls, cookie jars, and Hotwheels/Matchbox cars now, though with the economy it's tougher. Just found a 1959 Barbie (in box) for $375, sold next day for $3000 (to Japan) Their BIG COLLECTORS good days work. (but you have to know what your doing, that was a once every ten year score)

Good Morning Everyone! Roygrip, I may need to ask your advice on selling some old toys. Is there still interest in Tonka? OMG yes! Particularly the older the better. The better the shape, or a set etc. Get a feel for it by going on ebay and checking it out. Let me know what you want to do. All markets have settled as this depression gets worse, but there's always a market

busymom, I looked quickly in my resource guide, here's three sites to start, prices vary, so don't sell to the first soul. Get some "Edjumacation" (LOL) chk ebay. But all three sites buy (remember they will make a profit) vintagetonka.com tonkatoys.com ibuyoldtonkatrucks.com Worth a look.

Good evening all. Roy that was quite a score. We have some old truck toys but I don't know the make, will have to check it out! All our toys get used by at least one kid but hey I am glad to see them getting used.
Hope everyone is doing well. Been up and down personally but looking forward to a fun busy summer with the kids.

Hi all, hey Mitten, once the kids get old, and your not saving it for the grandkids, there's money to be had, depending on what it is.

Hey Roy, I was going thru the Tonka stuff yesterday, and your suggested websites. The best piece (at least, the best-looking one) is a VW bug with the Tonka logo on the side. I've got the original box, but there's no date on it. The websites didn't have anything like it. Any idea how old it could be? I've also got a Tonka jeep. Again, doesn't look like the ones on the websites. Mine is kind of an ugly green, but not quite army green. This one was played with, so a few marks, but nothing nasty & no rust. I get the feeling researching these toys is gonna get interesting.

I get the feeling researching these toys is gonna get interesting. Oh it will! It will. For instance with Hotwheels, the variations in color within a particular model or a run that "missed" something will make a difference value wise. My guess is the VW is from the lat "70s early 80's Tonka felt the pinch from Mattel, as Hotwheels were such a hit, and stepped up their game. Jeep, I don't know. I live in LA, and there are several reputable places, (toy shops) and antiques dealers specializing in toys for appraisals. Do you live in a place or by the phone book/online you could take them to? If you see a like vehicle, but with a different paint scheme, that can be a plus. The VW in the box is worth more, with the box, for sure. There are price guides to be had at your local book stores, check that out, look up "Toy, then Tonka, price guides online" Let me know.

Hello everyone!
Do you get really angry with life? I have been dealing with that earlier this month. I wrote about it on a blog that is hidden and it did help get those feelings out but man was I ANGRY with no real good outlet. What do you do when this happens to you?

Hi Mitten, yeah I can get angry for no apparent reason. From 12 step I learned that whatever the emotion it goes away. I don't need to "react" to it. I use prayer, I get out of the "moment" by doing other things, I ride my bike, work on another project. I journal, (I write it out) sometimes seeing it in front of me takes the sting out of it. But mostly if I'm angry glad happy or sad, I know it will be replaced by another emotion. Soon
