Hey all, if you could keep my aunt and family in your thoughts and prayers I would appreciate it. She is in ICU and most likely will not survive.

me2 - Glad to hear your BIL is doing well. And, that you are doing well and working on your own perspective. The only advice i have is to take life day by day. Try to find the joy of TODAY because none of us knows if we have tomorrow. And, worrying about hasn't done anything for any of us except rob us of the joy of today. I think learning to deal with depression is a journey of learning. I would advise reading helpful books and looking for things of the more uplifting side of life. Tonight i was at my daughter's elementary band concert. And, i couldn't help but be refreshed at looking at those bright young kids, seeing the work and effort they put into learning to play instruments and put on a concert. There is something very noble in admiring the efforts and spark of life in others that it is inspiring.
mitten - Prayers and comfort for you and your family.

Be an Encourager
I have tried to take that to heart and look to become an encourager. But, i am not always sure how to do so. I don't like to give vague platitudes and cliches to people. I personally have never found that helpful but something heartfelt and real is more helpful. And, how do you offer someone encouragement in very difficult situations. I can't necessarily say "things will get better' when there are some situations where things won't get better. How do you encourage someone in difficult times?

One sure way, is to make them aware of your being available to assist them in specific ways.. I say "specific" because we may not be able to fulfill the following.. "Whatever you need", sound good and meant well, cliche..
For example specifics (Of course yours may differ).. "Call me, no matter the time if you need to talk." .. Or offer.. An outing: Dinner, movie or something as simple as taking them for a ride and allowing them to be as talkative or quiet as they want. Small gifts can sometimes help lift a person's spirit.. It really depends upon the person. Allow the person to do something kind for you too in the midst of their depression.. I've been wined and dined by someone who is in such deep depression right now and between me allowing them to do so and their follow through, I can see glimpses of tiny hope steps being made..
Shooby, you are so on point when stating how coping through bouts of depression being a learning journey. It really is.

Thanks heart. And those are good points. Just doing things to show you care is what helps give people hope. I was trying to think of how we can encourage my mom who is in the nursing home/assisted living. And, while i can't tell her that things will get better necessarily, we can visit, call, and send her cards or bring some small gifts. I was thinking of mailing her some notes or cards every week so she would get mail. I think she would enjoy that.

Hey all!
Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts. Aunt looked TERRIBLE last Monday, then she got worse with some type of infection. By Saturday she was talking, they removed the throat tube AND her kidneys have started functioning again. She still has a long way to go since even after the hospital she is looking at a month of OT in a rehab facility but now it is looking like she will make it!

Sorry, shooby.. I just read this from you. I think dropping little notes of love to your mom is such an ideal way to make her smile. Mitten, happy to hear you aunt is doing better. You gals hang in there. It's tough to watch love ones who were once vibrant and now dependent upon others.. Love 'em up.

Daphne.. I hope this doesn't happen. I really do. Maybe things will change on your husband's job. I wonder if there is anything he can do to help make working their easier? Maybe speaking to his supervisor and voice his challenges? At any rate, I hope you take care of you in the meantime.. I hope you are needlessly worrying..

How do you all deal with your feelings and sense of loneliness? Or, is that not a problem for you? Seems like a common thing for me.

It depends on the area of loneliness. If it is a form of me lacking interacting with people loneliness, I may relieve that by picking up the phone to engage in conversation, walk my neighborhood when the weather is pleasant (people are usually out and about their homes) or plan a lunch or some other type outing where people are.. If not wanting tangible people contact I may come here to read, and maybe post a bit. Listen to music in-real life or come online to do the same. Take myself for a drive or get my body busy in the garden or around my home.. There's more that I try to do to fill the void of an assortment of loneliness bouts.. I just named a few. But, yeah, loneliness can hit me like a ton of bricks seemingly out of nowhere.. I guess I can admit in part, parts of my life I am not as content as I probably should be.. That may be my core reasons for loneliness.. Now if I could just be content.. Hope this makes sense.. I hope more, that you are doing okay today. Thanks for our Mother's Day wish. If it applies, I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day celebration..

I hope everyone is doing well and safe. We are having a ton of rain right now. At least that means I don't have to water my new trees! Really hoping it dries up some for this weekend.

Kitten. Good morning. I am in agreement with you about tree watering. I love when the rain comes soon after planting is completed. Me and my daughter planted a fruit tree and love to see the rain do the watering instead of us having to do it. Hope all is well and safe for you too.

Ack! I was just reminded why I HATE IEP meetings with the local school district. They remind me of yearly job reviews. (Ever had a year at work when you really worked hard, but you get docked on your pay increase for one mistake that your supervisor uses to their advantage.) What I hate about the IEP meetings is you find out about bad behavior of your child that no one ever bothered to tell you about during the school year. If I don't know about it, how can my child's behavior change? Nothing like feeling out of the loop!

busymom: Those IEP meetings and Evals are SO depressing. Nothing like discussing your child's shortcomings and how different they are from the neurotypical kids. Also very difficult to be a team if you don't get the information you need. Have you discussed more contact with you? Weezy: The flowers sound beautiful. Having a tough day today. I just wish things would go well for a while and I wouldn't have to put out any fires or deal with a new situation with DS#2. Yesterday I worked hard at getting the urine out of his mattress, today he put his toys down the sump pump drain.... Oh then while working on that he took his wet body and played on my bed (it has been raining a ton here so he had been outside got very wet, needed my help then left to wreak more havoc....

Thanks Mittenkitten! He's moving up to a different school next year. I'm hoping communication will be improved. I've already begun the process of trying to get to know the people he'll be working with over there. Regarding the mattress: Febreeze is my best friend! (That, and one of those leak-proof mattress covers.) Sorry you're having "one of those days". Our kids are like the Energizer bunny sometimes, aren't they? Weezybear, I like the idea of going to the greenhouse. I find that very relaxing (even 'tho it'll mean more work in the garden for me...)

Hello ladies.. Sound like there's been some trying times going on in all our lives this past week and end.. We are going to make it.. One way or the other. I only have a few moments of posting, I hope. I am waiting in the wings to get both sets of nails all pretty and pink or red or some other color to help me enjoy the small stuff in life I do for me. This small act is one of my calgon moment times. I shut off my mind's thoughts and allow my nail gal and hair gal to fill me up with what's on theirs.. Enjoy what's left of this weekend.. Finish it well.
