So Goodell apparently told the owners that he/they screwed up in the Ray Rice decision. The NFL channel was reporting it last night, sort of. There's apparently a new policy in play and Ray McDonald of the 49s is already testing it.

Good ol' Rodger and his willy nilly punishments.
Wes Welker swears someone put Molly in his drink when he wasn't looking. Uh huh, I totally believe that one.

John Elway and Peyton Manning said they weren't surprised by the Welker suspension. I guess Welker was shocked his appeal was unsuccessful?

Seahawks looked good tonight. My Packers sure as hell didn't look good tonight. I told DH that the game was lost once Bulaga went down. The tight end is a bit of a concern but the O line is troublesome. I swear there's something in the water in Green Bay the last, what, 4-5 years that's making everyone injury prone.

My Seahawks look like a totally different offense with Percy Harvin healthy!
"Lord have mercy, we have Percy!" - Russell Wilson
We could sure stand to work on our punt returns though. lol

finally, the NFL does something right - the Ravens have released Ray Rice, in light of the elevator surveillance video being released. sorry, it's shown in the link. just stop the video from autoplaying. the story is just underneath, scroll down. the NFL has suspended him indefinitely. link

amazing what a little bad PR from TMZ will do to force someone's hand.
whatever, in this case the end justifies the means IMHO.

The Ravens dumped him after seeing it. Roger Goodell claimed he asked law enforcement for it and they didn't provide it to him. Now he's under indefinite suspension and according to ESPN the Ravens don't owe him another dime.

I just saw the video; my question is: why the crap is she still with him? FFS, what does it take, besides a man knocking you out, for you to pick your sorry girl ass up and leave? Was his being in the NFL so important to you that you stayed? (Well, maybe not now, since he's been cut and suspended).

I'm not at all saying this is the case here, I don't know either of them from a hole in the wall....
BUT - how many times have we heard cases of the victim being either sweet-talked or threatened into marrying the abuser so that they can't be forced to testify against the abuser?

I don't know that I believe him either Beth. Especially since he was already on record saying he went too easy on Rice.
Chiver from the moment they got married in a hurry I suspected it was so she couldn't testify. Spousal privilege does apply after the fact in the state of New Jersey.
Nancy my only thought is some women seem to put up with it rather than grow a backbone and support themselves and their children. She's setting a horrible example for her little girl.

No one would have ever forced her to testify. Don't know about that state specifically, but most states go on with the charges in DV regardless of the victim's stance on the issue.
And I could go into detail on why women stay. I understand it. But, I find that most who haven't been in an abusive relationship don't get it & won't get it. Better that way I suppose than understanding because you have BTDT.

Some "experts" have already commented on the fact that the tougher penalties from the NFL on players who beat their wives will actually result in fewer women reporting their NFL husbands hitting them because they don't want the family to lose his paychecks.
But seeing that video of Ray Rice.... damn. He didn't even get any sort of punishment from law enforcement. he just had to enter some sort of program. I mean, if they can't have a harsher penalty when there is video proof of the incident, what will they do to wife beaters?

That is a valid concern, although I still think harsher punishments are better despite the concern. A lot go unreported anyway. Doubt she would have called the cops on him, this just happened in public so he got caught.

Having worked in Law enforcement, I understand why women stay.
I just don't get why they stay, if that makes sense.
What good is an NFL paycheck if you're dead, or beaten into an unrecognizable pulp? Money honestly trumps a sense of self-worth? Go find another baller to shack up with, honey, if you're that hooked on the idea of being a groupie.
I'm not blaming her, you understand. But I hold her accountable, in some respects. I hold her accountable for not being a better example to her child. I hold her accountable for having so little faith in herself that accepting a beat-down, and then sitting next to him in a news conference, was a good idea. I hold her accountable for not going to the police.
OK, fine. I sound harsh. I know that. But women have to start out with backbone; we cannot expect to grow one later. Later is too late. By then, we've formed bad habits and learned to accept too many lies as truths. Strong women have to come forward and teach girls to be strong women. And it works for boys, too. Boys have to be taught to be strong enough to work out anger, not take it out on someone.

If you believe it is a one-time thing, then you aren't worried about ending up dead or beaten to a pulp. Don't know this woman's story specifically though.
And I don't know how you fix it. I don't consider myself a weak woman. I didn't need him. I have a degree in engineering & an awesome job. The relationship just becomes twisted little by little. Until what is your normal is a horrible relationship to an outsider. But, you love him. But, he is sick, under stress, whatever. But, things are going to be different this time. But, do you really want to end a long-term relationship over a mistake...he knows it was a mistake & is really sorry.
It is easy to say you would leave. Much harder to live it & do it. Maybe it is how I grew up, but part of me defined myself by my relationship. My parents are still married to this day. All we ever hear is that marriage is hard work. I pictured myself married to this guy til I died, that is a hard picture to change. Does "til death do us part" really just mean, until he screws up really bad. And how bad is really bad. When is it time to walk. Do you stop loving someone when they make a mistake. Do I want to split my family when I truly believe he is sorry & understands why he screwed up. If it that easy to turn and walk away, did you really love him that much to begin with. Yeah, my marriage isn't perfect, but the alternative is single mom. 1% of the time my marriage sucks, I can deal with that 1% or go to being 100% alone which will suck much more of the time. I didn't need him, yet I wanted him. I wanted my whole family together because that is what my life was supposed to be. That was how I grew up, I didn't want my kids to deal with divorce & not having their dad around. My counselor had me start a journal. The only thing I ever wrote in it was "This wasn't supposed to be my life".
I don't know what you do. I feel bad for her. It is a sucky position made far worse because it is under public scrutiny.
ETA - rereading my post, much of it was rambling train of thought. Sorry if it doesn't really follow.

Sad thing is so many of these children wind up in abusive relationships down the road or wind up being the abuser because that is what they learn and think is the norm. AND I did not say ALL, I said some. Now on a lighter note: IT'S MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL.

Statement from Janay Rice about the releasing of the video and the Raven's releasing Ray Rice. Thoughts on what she said?
