Second day of free agency- the Broncos have signed Wes Welker. That means that Petyon Manning is going to be throwing to Wes Welker. (Made worse for me by the fact that I am a Raiders fan and love to root for the Broncos to lose)
Does anyone else's head hurt?

My Ravens friends remind you of all the passes Welker dropped last year

Let's see how many Welker drops for Peyton next season. I wonder if Mrs.Manning is going to blame him when it happens in a big game.

They also eliminated the Tuck (no) rule and "The Jim Schwarz rule" is now in effect.

C is not a football fan, but he was thrilled they got rid of the Tuck rule- now he won't have to listen to me rant about it.
Any other Raider fan read that news and think- That's about right. They waited until a year after Al Davis' passing so it wouldn't be as obvious. (Non Raiders fans, please understand that I view being an NFL conspiracy theorist as part and parcel of being a Raiders fan.)

The NFL does not care about player safety. Goodell and company want it to appear as though they care about player safety. They added the Thursday night games and want to include more games in the regular season, both of which decrease player safety. The NFL cares about one thing......$$$$$$$$$$.

I think the Packers are going to try to bring Tebow into camp. They didn't draft any QBs this year. And our QB coaches rock at training guys in the basics of their job. Now, Tebow wanting to come to Green Bay is a whole different kettle of fish.

I doubt if Tebow's going to get an NFL job. There's way too much of a media circus around him. I think that's what happened in New York. The owner wanted him, the coaches didn't. The resulting disaster around the Jets is going to sour the last couple of people who believed in him.

I'm not at all saying he's not a good guy. I'm not even saying he's not a good football player. And he seems to be a pretty good leader. But he is NOT a quarterback. Certainly not an NFL-level quarterback. I've thought for a while that if he wanted to change positions (maybe an H-back) he might be decent enough to stick. But he is not a quarterback, and if he is going to insist on playing there, he won't be in the NFL.

(There was some talk a month or so ago that he had been working with someone who had completely torn down and rebuilt this throwing motion and fixed his footwork, and that he would really surprise some people when camp started. Until I see it though, I'm not buying it.)

But Tallguy, for shits and giggles, can you picture Tebow in Green Bay? With it's population of what, 60K?

And how much do you want to bet that about 58,000 of them would crowd in to hear him speak if they did bring him in? Have to move church to Lambeau Field for that day.... (As long as he promised to spend at least a few minutes talking football afterwards, of course....)

The Jets were totally unfair to Tebow. Say what you want about his skills, but they didn't give him a fair chance. I also wanted to add that Rex Ryan is a big fat jerk!

He chose to lose instead of giving them a chance to win with Tebow. And now Geno Smith is in that circus. If the reports of his diva like behavior are true though, good riddance.

I will say that John Idzik was probably a good choice as GM. He has a good background in a number of areas and was well-respected both around the league and in Seattle. But yeah, ANYTHING with Ryan is likely to be a circus.

linkWow. I guess I shouldn't have joked about church, football, and Wisconsin.... Leroy Butler had a speaking engagement (where he was going to speak about bullying) cancelled because some parent complained that he sent out a tweet congratulating Jason Collins.... Methinks a pastor with any courage would have invited him to include the complaint in his speech as an example instead of folding and cancelling the appearance....

Yeah, the pastor was stupid. And then there's this: Jets coach Rex Ryan has spoken publicly about having lap band surgery, which he says helped him lose more than 100 pounds. Ryan also spoke privately to New Jersey Governor Chris Christie about the procedure.Christie revealed this week that he had the surgery in February, and he told Brian Williams of NBC News that Ryan was one of the people he consulted before making his decision. From profootballtalk.com I so would not want my governor taking advice from Rex Ryan.

Perfect spot. Not even the most rabid Tebow-lovers will think he should be playing quarterback ahead of Brady. That by itself will cut down tremendously on the circus that follows Tebow everywhere. And Belichick can actually figure out a way to get him on the field doing something while still letting him have the title of third QB. I actually think he would be a pretty good H-back, particularly if Gronkowski is out for a while.
It's too bad for him. Good football player, good leader, good intangibles, tough kid. He's just not a quarterback. Maybe in a few years if he COMPLETELY tears down everything about his motion he'll be able to throw accurately enough, but the clamoring of the fans wanting him to start and also loudly proclaiming that it is because he's Christian that he isn't getting a chance was practically guaranteeing that nobody would take a chance on him to play ANY position. His talent isn't great enough to warrant taking on that kind of headache.

Supposedly when he became a father in November he said he had to change his ways. Said there was a pair of eyes looking up to him now, he couldn't keep acting the same way. Guess he didn't quite get there.

This is hardly his first foray into violent criminal behavior. While in college he was arrested for getting into a fight in front of a bar (at age 17) and also questioned in a shooting around the same time. He is possibly implicated in a double homicide last year in Boston outside a nightclub. He is also being sued for allegedly shooting out another man's eye after an altercation at a strip club. He was engaged in a fistfight outside another nightclub in May. And now the current murder charge. It would probably be a decent bet that he also has a juvenile record (sealed.)
May I assume that your comment about "having it all" referred only to athletic ability, money, and fame, and had absolutely nothing to do with intelligence, rational behavior, common sense, anger and impulse control, the ability to handle alcohol, and a general belief that, when faced with the choice of whether or not to be a vicious thug the preferred answer is (pretty much always) "NOT!"

Pitta is out for the season with a shattered hip. What a huge loss for the Ravens.

Bet it'd be nice to have Boldin now, huh?
(And no, he isn't ELITE)

Boldin had a fantastic playoff run, but he had trouble getting separation during the regular season. I was sad to see him go, but his departure is a bit overblown.
If you are interested in Fantasty Football, then Joe isn't elite.
However, if you know anything about real football, then here you go: Let's look at his career:
First rookie quarterback to start all sixteen games and make the playoffs.
First rookie quarterback to win two playoff games.
Most starts by a quarterback in first season: 19
Most starts by a quarterback in first two seasons: 37
Most starts by a quarterback in first three seasons: 55
Most starts by a quarterback in first four seasons: 73
Most starts by a quarterback in first five seasons: 93
Most wins by a quarterback in first 80 consecutive starts: 54
Most combined regular and postseason wins in first three years as a quarterback: 36 (tied with Dan Marino)
Only quarterback to start and win a playoff game in each of his first five seasons
Most road playoff wins by a quarterback: 6
Most touchdowns in a postseason: 11 (tied with Joe Montana and Kurt Warner)
Most touchdowns without an interception in a postseason: 11 (tied with Joe Montana)
First quarterback to have a passer rating over 100 in all four games of a single postseason.
Most consecutive playoff games with three passing touchdowns: 3 (tied with Bernie Kosar, Kurt Warner, and Aaron Rodgers
And let's not forget that he was the Super Bowl MVP.
What is your definition of elite?

To be good for more than four games.
The first half of your list basically boils down to, "They didn't have anyone else and he managed to not get himself hurt."
Most of the wins you claim him to be responsible for are owed much more to the Ravens defense. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the Ravens won last year when their defenders were healthy. They lost when they weren't.
His completion percentage is too low, and he throws too many interceptions, particularly considering that he doesn't really go downfield all that much. Many of his passes are -offs to Ray Rice. (And if a quarterback is really going to be considered elite, he probably should at least be the best player on his own offense.) Compare Flacco's statistics to Aaron Rodgers, who I do consider elite. Nothing comes even close to comparing. Completion percentage, yards per attempt, TD to interception ratio, quarterback rating....
Yes, he did have a very good playoff run, but don't forget that they needed a "miracle" to escape in Denver. And his timing (having that run in a contract year) was incredible, and congratulations to him for capitalizing on it. But talk to me in four years. If he's continued to play like his last four games, I'll grant you the point.
Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl too. And you REALLY don't want me to list Super Bowl MVP's, do you? Even being a fan there are probably several you have never heard of, or at the very least could not name which team they played for.

Lol, comparing him to Aaron Rodgers? How many times did he lead his team to a Superbowl victory? Oh, that's right, one. So, are you telling me all the great quarterbacks have had success on their own? None of them had a run game and none of them had a strong defense? Btw, if you paid attention you would know our defense was not very good last year. So, why is it Joe doesn't get credit when his team wins and the other quarterbacks do? Have you taken into consideration the receivers? Joe hasn't had a group of top recievers to throw too ever. Of course, you are totally ignoring Cam Cameron's playcalling that dictated a lot of those statistics. Btw, if your offensive line broke down immediately, you would be dumping off to Ray Rice too.
The whole point of me calling him "elite" was a play on the argument to begin with. I don't really care if he is considered elite (even though I think he is), I care if he wins and that is what the guy does. Let's look at Matt Ryan. He is consistent and puts up great regular season numbers. I think he is pretty darned good. However, the guy has won one playoff game. One. No quarterback is going to play like Joe did in the last four games for four straight years, give me a break. You know even the best have down games, right? I never said he was an Aaron Rodgers or Tom Brady. I don't want him to be. So, it doesn't matter to me what his quarterback rating is or if he has a terrible game next season (happens to all quarterbacks, even the best), being able to lead his team to victory is what matters.
You don't happen to be a 49ers fan, do you?
Wait, are you jealous because Joe is taller than you?
