Woo HOOOO!!! 2NS in a row!!!! I'm on fire right now. 5 NS, 0 CS, 10 NEO.
Made an awesome dinner last night.
Skillet Lasagna (Adapted from SparkPeople) 1lb Ground Turkey 1 med onion 6 cloves of garlic (I doubled it to 6 since I was using turkey instead of beef.) 1 can dice tomatoes undrained 1 small can tomato sauce 1/2 c beef broth reduced sodium 3/4 c water 1.5 tbsp dried parsley 1.5 tsp dried oregano 1.5 tsp dried basil 2.5 cups whole wheat broken lasagna noodles 1 cup 1% cottage cheese 1/4 cup parm cheese 1 egg Mozzarella cheese
Brown the meat with the onion and garlic. Then add next 8 ingredients through noodles. Bring to a boil and cook for 20 mins. Mix cottage cheese, parm and egg together, drop spoonfuls on top of the meat & noodle mixture, cover and cook for 5 mins. Sprinkle mozzarella over the top and serve.
Both my boys loved it. For my crew it made 8 servings, the recipe says 6. (At 8 servings it comes in at about 260 cals a serving) Not quite real lasagna, but a great way to have it without the fuss of assembling.
Preschool is getting better. He needs a little reassurance in the AM when I leave him, but I'm not feeling like I have to pry him off of me. His table buddy was gone last week and he was very happy to see him yesterday, so he doesn't have to eat alone. They switched the assistant to work until 5pm instead of 4:30, so she isn't there in the AM and the lead teacher has been more interactive so far this week.
Brag- This morning in the car mini-D told me that 5 and 2 make 7. He was holding up his hands to show me that concept. I mentioned that to his teacher this AM and she said they hadn't been working on it there, but since he is showing an interest she'll try to direct him towards number/math activities.
Mrs. Lynch- How exciting about getting paid for your blog. I have no idea on how much to ask.
Muttley- Yeah for a running track.
SBcalimom How scary. Hope you and DD2 are okay.
Reenee Yeah on potential income. And can't wait to celebrate when that student loan is paid off!!!
FinancialPeace Yeah on getting to stay at work a little longer. Hopefully it won't be too stressful!
Sapphire That is my boss, except that she stress eats something terrible. But she will eat the same thing for breakfast lunch and dinner during the week. She is a real foodie, so I don't know how she does it. But she stays rail thin even with her occasional binges.
Shelia Thanks for asking about mini-D. I agree it is so much easier just to have the protein on hand in the house than having to scramble to find something. I've even started keeping eggs on hand and do breakfast for dinner if they are getting close to the expiration date.

sheila - I'd be lost without my cookbooks! When I first get a new one, I go through with those post it flags and flag the ones that I would be open to trying. Then when it's time to try a new recipe, I just turn to the pork section if I know I've got some pork in the freezer, for example, and find one that I have most ingredients for. We did refried bean and rice burritos last night that blue liked okay but that made me want to wretch. They tasted good but something about the texture, probably the beans... I had a bagel instead haha. So it doesn't always work out. But I put a post it on that page with a big "NO" so I know not to do that one again. If we like it I rate it on five stars and put that on the page for future reference. Eventually I'll compile my favorites into my own recipe book but I need to try more first. I seriously have like 10 cookbooks I flip through. It's fun! And we've definitely found some that have become "regulars" for when I'm too lazy to get creative in meal planning (mmmm taco casserole...).
Yesterday was definitely a spend. Blue's glasses are looking like crap and he's been wanting new ones for a while. So we got his eyes checked out and ordered him new glasses. We got cheaper frames (some of those are crazy pricey!) but it still came to over $300. Yikes. Medical fund, wiped out. But, he's never dipped into it before so he's allowed. I think I'm good on prescriptions for the rest of the year so all we'll have to spend on is my allergy meds OTC, which should be fine coming out of the grocery budget. He's also getting stuff figured out to do laser eye surgery next year (another reason for cheap frames), and I'll do that out of my FSA at work. He's been talking about that for years now.
He also wants to look into inground sprinklers, which I feel iffy about doing at this point. I just feel like we've spent so much money because of the hurricane (even though we did get reimbursed) and for the car repair before that (which we paid out of the EF). I told him to research it, come up with a price, and we'll sit down and figure it out. He does have bonus money coming (guaranteed), so we can do a reasonable project, but nothing crazy. We'll see... he's the lawn guy so I know he's really like the in-ground.

I passed my inspection! Still not perfect, but it's getting there.
Tomorrow I will have time (finally) to get all of my updating done.

financial: When I spend money first think if you need the item. If you don't put it back. If you do look at the price and see if is a good value for the money. I also look at an item and think about how I will feel if I don't purchase the item, what it will be used for or if it is just going to collect dust in a month. I also think about the amount and what else I could do with that money and if I really want to give up x,y or z for it.
mrsl: congrats no advice sorry.
reenee: great job, How much will you make for each dress after expenses? Did I miss where you are going to get a roomie?

sheila -- apples and oranges my friend. You have a DS and DH to feed. You also have a teenager. I did eat a lot as a teenager, but never out of boredom. I ate because I was hungry. I'm glad that phase is over.
mrslynch -- Congrats on the sponsor for your blog; can't offer any numbers.
dakota -- my coworker easily spends $150 in one week. However, he likes to cook and he cooks for his roommate also. Wow your boss must have a high metabolism and/or she works it off. Glad to hear that mini D is doing better in school and excelling in math!
mizbear -- Congrats on passing the Inspection!!!
honey -- how are you this week?

Update: 13/15 NSD, 5/10CSD
BH Ladies -- Thanks for the feedback. It should be interesting to see what the kids come up with for their projects since I am requiring them to do a similar design. SES -- thanks for catching that. I fixed it prior to today's demo. Also the tech head was impressed as well. So excited to see the results in a few weeks.
Well time to get back to work. Still have a few of the last projects to finish up.

productive day but I'm feeling off - a little sick and also easily distracted. I paid up my car insurance for the next 6 months, at $300 a payment twice a year I have plenty in savings that I collect monthly. But needed to get the paperwork showing it's valid for my rental car next week. Also I am heading out to the grocery store soon, I'm out of vanilla ice cream and I have both pie and root beer. Mom & Dad are coming up on Friday and I have a nice list of chores started Mostly little things like caulking around the windows, loose screws on the screen door and a replacement handle for my garage door. The biggie will be swapping out the fridges. Dad left his furniture dolly here so that should make things easier. Plus Mom will be here to help me unpack, organize and restock the freezers. Until then I have a lot of work to accomplish, my first invoicing and really should finish packing for this trip.

Had a lovely "saturday" today. Spent the first 3 hours doing a deep clean of the apartment and getting that out of the way. Met the potential temporary roomie, who seems to be a nice, normal, sane person. She seemed to like the apartment, but has one more place she's going to look at tomorrow before making a decision. I should know one way or another tomorrow evening. Then I had lunch with Mom, stared at the huge pile of produce on my counter and in my fridge for a while hoping for inspiration, and did some freelance work. Met up with my DSis this afternoon, enjoyed one last afternoon at the lake, had dinner at the little hometown cafe I worked at in high school and came home. Days like today feel wonderful. I also had a little mini-windfall today. Over the weekend I found a 1944 half dollar coin in the till at work and bought it. I took it in to BFF (the store she works in deals in coins, jewelry, and guns) and her boss bought the coin from me for $12!! He also gave me a heads up on which coins to look out for at work. So I'm going to count today as a NSD because dinner came out of my mini-windfall. shan - thank you for the reminder. I knew that the sub-letting provision could come into play, but in this situation I doubt I'll have any problems. She'll only be here 3-4 nights a week, at night time only, so it would be unusual if anyone even noticed that she was here. If she decides to stay more than 1 month, I'll have her fill out the application and get official. Otherwise she can be considered a guest. MK - It came up kind of suddenly. I was perusing the "housing wanted" ads (for a potential permanent roomie) when I came across her ad. It's a situation where she works full time about 1/2 a mile from my apartment, but owns a home in another major city about 40 miles away. She's been commuting for several years and just wants a bit of a break. I don't really want a permanent roomie anyway, so this could work out well.

Spent $35 on groceries last night. Also discovered dannon light and fit orange flavor tastes like a creamsicle. All for 80 calories! yummy!
reenee - I hope it works out with the "guest"!
I did my first project for my second freelance client. I hope they are happy with the work! It would make me so sad if they weren't. And tonight I tackle a short project for my usual client. Still haven't heard back on copyediting test for potential third client, but I am hopeful. At that point I will call it a day, because any more clients and I'll have to go fulltime now, and I don't want to do that before we have our first kid (yay health insurance being awesome here). And tomorrow I scour the house, as my parents are coming for the weekend, and we have a dinner party (how adult!) to attend Friday night. The guest room/my office is in shambles. Washed sheets are piled on the bed, along with books from who knows where. I also need to take out the litter box and move it to our room for the weekend, and clean the carpet well. It's a small room and they really don't need kitty smell in there. Plus my stepdad is allergic. So I should move the hepa filter in there tonight probably... much to do...

Yesterday's spending DH Quarterly Tuition: $2,327 DH Books: $100 (for 3 classes- yay for Amazon marketplace!) Junebug's dog license: $31.49 Sprint Bill: $165 (only this high because we added MIL to our account this month- she will reimburse us half) Smog check for Chevy: $15 Gas for Chevy: ? (DH paid, hasn't hit the account yet) CostCo: $117 4 Hockey Tickets: $44 (allowance spending, we'll be paid back for 1/2)
But it was still a controlled spend day as it was all planned/in budget. We may end up needing to buy a new battery for the Chevy. Considering we didn't even turn the engine over for over a year, this is not entirely unexpected. Having gotten it smogged yesterday, I should be able to register it online today. We decided to cancel our trip to Portland this weekend, even though we were only going to go for Sunday afternoon. DH is in a mandatory orientation from 8:30-2:30 on Saturday (yat for time home alone with my puppies), so he really doesn't want to have his Sunday committed, too. I'm still going to take Monday off and we'll take his mom to CostCo then. I'm excited about getting to go see the hockey game in October. I love hockey and I really wish I could afford season tickets, or even a ticket package, for our local minor league team, but its just not that high a priority with everything else. So yesterday's Living Social deal for half off tickets made me happy. We'll go to the game with a couple other friends of ours who will pay us back for the tickets in one way or another.
start: Get some rest! You don't want to be sick on vacation.
reenee: I hope it all works out with the roomie situation. I know I'm looking forward to the extra cash our roomie will bring starting in Nov
redwagon: Good job on all the freelance work. And oh, how I know the need to clean right before a parent arrives. But I'm a terrible housekeeper overall.

Update 11 NS, 0 CS, 17 NEO. I figured out I was a week off on my calendar so I went back and looked and my numbers are somewhat better.
Not much happening here. DH has parent teacher confs today but will be home by 7 so that isn't too bad. Mini-D and I will head to his gym class then go to the library and return books. And I get to pick up the ones they have on hold for me. YEAH!!!
Red- I do the same with cookbooks and magazines. Though if they are a keeper recipe I write them down on a recipe card and it goes into my recipe box for easy access later. That way I can pass the magazines on to others and even get rid of the cookbook if I wanted to.
Start- Even your "unproductive" days out shine my productive days.
Reenee- Good luck with potential roommate, hope it doesn't cause you any problems with the complex.
MK- Any word on the driving? I know it is unlikely since DS has special needs, but since all the parents are in the same boat (at least that is what I remember) could you set up carpools?

shanen--I'm using Host Gator for the host and WordPress for the design. And let me tell you, it was no easy task to get this thing set up. I was fortunate to have another blogger basically hold my hand through the entire process. I would have quit doing it had she not helped me.

nice mrsl! Glad you're enjoying this new blog and finding your niche. I also use hostgator & wordpress but let blue eyes handle all the details. I've been lucky enough not to need my backup geek squad while blue's been out of the country. 5 more days till he's back and I can make mad changes!
Thanks for the reflection ladies, I did sleep in this morning and it felt lovely. then after feeding the dogs, trimming up my roses and putting out the trash cans I got the best. news. ever.
The team member unaffectionately known as "Canada" has left. <does stages bow> thank you and thank you. I am so so glad that she is no longer screwing stuff up and we can move forward. My base rate plus the contract on our 3 new employees is more than enough to keep me solvent and I'm still working with another dude to write for a major site serving entrepreneurs.
Loving it.
Really getting antsy for my trip too and my goal is to take 1 off the charts, kick a$$, "is that a professional?" photo that I can print for my bedroom. The wall of photos in that room are going to be all my prints and places that inspire me so when I can't get away I can still see my get aways.

redwagon- it depends on what domain you want to use. I have .wordpress.com for my personal blog because I don't really care about the domain. but for my business blog it's more professional, easier to write and speak and it's a business expense They can still be hosted on a wordpress site no matter where the domain is registered but some people prefer a different hosting service.

20/26 NSD
QOTW: How do you accomplish your meal/grocery planning for the week? I generally do a major shopping once a month and just fill in with produce and milk once or twice a month. I tend to keep a supply of the basic staples I use on hand so that I am able to wait for a major sale to stock up. This is something I "sort of" did in the past but really started paying attention to after I did my Food Stamp Challenge last February. Since than I have gradually established a very well stocked pantry and freezer.
COTW: Shop your pantry! Go through your pantry and freezer and try to create a meal plan for the next week or so with minimal shopping at the grocery store.
So funny this is the challenge this week, since I had started doing that very thing! So far this month I have only spent $11.42, on milk and produce. It was very convenient to grab something from the pantry or freezer during all the drama with the job. Now that things have calmed down I need to do a detailed inventory of the freezer, and the one in the fridge.
Something about it being September starts my internal "year" and I am now ready to get things organized. It sort of feels like "vacation" is over and real life is starting. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that I don't so well with extreme heat.
Now to go back and catch up!
Oh, MK, have a great birthday tomorrow!

Today ended up being my errand day as I was so glad that Canada is gone woo hoo! I picked up a gift at Costco - a photo canvas for my cousin's son who turns 1 on Saturday. While I was over in that part of town I got some spray paint on sale at Michael's and a sign for my front door. I need people to stop ringing the door bell while I'm on conference calls. Then I picked up a smoothie for lunch and went to the thrift store. It was half off day and I found some great deals! Like the 1st season of Lost which is selling for $13 on amazon that I bought for $3.50 Or Curb Your Enthusiasm selling for $19 on amazon that I bought for $2.50. I also bought more business cards since they were having a 25% off sale and there's a few hundred people coming to the conference this weekend so I can pass them out without worrying about running out. Tomorrow is the chiropractor but that's a budgeted cost.

Happy Birthday mittenkitten tomorrow and to mizbear on the 23rd. update; 19 NSD, 2 EOD. I am off the next 2 days and I would like to get at least one tub cleaned out. I don't know if I want to do one in here or out in the garage. I am still tired but not as depressed as I was.

UPDATE 20/25 NS/CS; 21 NEO; 11MOAN 2S; 1EO
I have a better feeling about the rest of the month despite the fact that the computer has eaten 5 posts this morning- one of which was quite lengthy and will require more coffee before I retype it. For the beginning of October I am going to rework my blog. If someone could help me out with a list to everyone's blogs so I can link them to mine. Most of my posts are kind of cheezy because I didn't stick with my original plan- now I have everything falling into place. Thank you for the advance birthday wishes.
At home today doing odds and ends- although I am saving the carpet for tomorrow...

happy birthday mittenkitten!! and to mizbear tomorrow!! Spent $6.98 yesterday cause blue wanted ice cream, but I took it from my fun money. He deserved it. I was being such a moody witch lol. The short project is more time-consuming than expected, and then my Word went and crashed and saved one file but not the other so I lost about an hour's worth of work I'll have to go back through. UGH. Lesson learned: no editing on the netbook. So this afternoon I have a doctor's appointment with an obgyn who specializes in high risk pregnancy just to meet and chat about my medical history and all that fun stuff. NOT. lol. Then back to editing and lots of cleaning. Gonna be a fun day...

12NS, 0 CS, 18NEO.
Today maybe a CS. My grandma is in a mood and my mom has had enough of her. So she asked me to deal with her tonight. The facility she lives in is having a harvest ball and grandma has decided she doesn't want to go at all. And is demanding that someone bring her dinner, since all they are giving them are sandwiches for dinner. She has said soup, now is wanting pizza. So I will call her this afternoon and find out what she really wants and then take it to her, but I am not taking mini-D with me. He is still coughing and dripping, plus I don't want grandma to think that when she throws a fit she gets to see a great GK. I'm really hoping that by the time I call she decides to go to the ball and just eat the sandwich for dinner. The funny thing is both she & my mom would have told me to eat was I was given and be happy because there are people in the world with no food. Evidently what is good for the goose is not good for the gander. Though I do plan on reminding grandma about her telling me that all the time. My mom really tends to treat her with kid gloves and sometimes I think Grandma needs someone to push back and say your acting like a two year old. Maybe it is because I have one that age that I'm less willing to put up with from an 86 year old.
Red sorry about the lost work. Good luck at the Dr.
Happy birthday MittenKitten!
3cats - Enjoy your time off. Glad you are feeling better.
Start- Glad the problem person is gone.
SES- How is the job and the cats?

dakota- I WOULD tell my DGM to stop acting like a 2 yr old and either give me a straight answer like an adult or eat the sandwich. ;D I know I'm bad, but she made me this way.
Happy Birthday MK!
My long post that was to answer everything that has occurred in the previous 15 pages has been eaten again- so I give up. I have placed post-its beside the computer and from now on will take notes as I type- then type my reply. I honestly think the issue is user error not PB. Not enough coffee yet...

mizbear- I totally get it. I started writing a kid's book when I was 10 on a driving vacation out west (in a notebook). I later expanded it and reworked it and it was about 100 pages long when a virus got my computer freshman year of college. I was in an absolute panic. I had no printout, no backup, nothing. Luckily my brother is a computer genius and took my laptop to the UMass computer lab where he worked with some pretty awesome technology. It took him a while, a few different attempts, but he eventuallly saved my novel. I didn't care about anything else, just that. Ever since, I have digital copies of it in about six places, on disc, as well as printouts lol. I finished it in 2007 and haven't gone back for a final edit. My mom read it to her third-graders a few years ago and they gave some great feedback I need to work in. I hope to have a new draft for her to read to this year's class towards the end of the school year. Which I will backup in six places, and printout, etc lol.
dakota - good luck with grandma. I can sympathize - sometimes you just don't want a sandwich!! I hope mini-d is feeling better soon.
mizbear - I type in notepad as I read along, then copy and paste. Lost too many posts leaving it to the site to not screw up!

dakota - How frustrating about your Grandma.
Sorry if I am missing people that I should be saying something to. Work hasn't let up (for better or worse) and I'll read for a break from drafting, but not get a chance to post.
DH mowed my running trail yesterday. I did not get a chance to use it last night. DH and DS came into town at supper time and we went out to eat at the Mexican place by my office. We were walking by DH's old boss's office and we were like we should see if M wants to eat with us since his wife died in May. So, we stop by and he's like eh I shouldn't and we talk some more and then he was like yeah sure I'll go with you. So, that was a lot of fun. Then we let DS play on the playground equipment next door to my office. It is for the private prep school that is in the building next to it, but no one was around to tell us don't do it. Then I took DS home and DH went to visit his brother and mom. It was an all around nice evening. DS was very very good at the restaurant. I was so proud. Anyway, it is raining here today. We are still pretty dry, so we could use it.
