17 NEO Goal: 25 16 NSD/CSD Goal: 20SES - as requested I wrote a brief David d'Khat update: honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=thoughts&thread=152&page=2startsmart - Let me know if this query has already been answered please? mitten - I wanted to say that I can understand the stress about trying to figure out how to pay for health insurance in this economy. I am so sorry you are having to struggle with this on top of everything else - like dealing with the state over your son's benefits and transportation. Did that ever get resolved? sbcalimom - OUCH on falling with the baby. My brother did something similar with his first daughter .. but I best not tell you how that turned out because I think you have had enough stress over this incident. reenee - Did you decide to make the bridesmaid dresses? redwagon - Good to see your freelancing is coming along so well. MrsLynch - I was able to check out your site - it looks great. Remember - some of us are still willing to do guest posts for YOU if you get to feeling too burdened. startsmart (2) - When do you leave on your trip again? I think I am getting antsy for you. Actually, I am not sure when is the last time I went on a trip just for myself without kids or a holiday to contend with. SES (2) - I had to laugh when you said "...Something about it being September starts my internal "year" and I am now ready to get things organized. It sort of feels like "vacation" is over and real life is starting. I'm sure some of it has to do with the fact that I don't so well with extreme heat. " I think it has more to do with you being a teacher for decades! MittenKitten - Happy Happy Birthday! dakota - People do tend to regress at a certain age back to some childish and peevish behavior. We had to push back when Grandpa was getting that way. He honestly had no idea how we was behaving and it sort of shocked him into stopping a lot of the piddly whining. I say no harm no foul in trying that with your grandmother - especially the picky eating. QOTW: I get the weekly flyer from my supermarket in my e-mail and take a look at the front and back covers for the loss leaders to see if I can plan several meals around them. I try to do roasted or fried chicken, a roast or stew once a week as it gives me a second evening meal and some lunches. I keep a small pad of paper in the kitchen next to the phone and when I run out of something, or notice for instance there are only two eggs left, I jot down the item. Then the day before I shop I consider what three main dinners I am going to make and check to see that I have all the ingredients. I also do a quick check of staples, paper goods and cat food. Then I tuck the list into my coupon holder so I don't forget either one - and unless I see a great unadvertised stock up item I try HARD to stick to my list. But I am only human and cookies have been known to jump unseen into my cart. COTW: Hmmmm, I will have to do this next week as I had already planned this week's menus and besides the week is almost over. Actually, this COTW has gotten me thinking about something I worry about whenever we get a big storm - losing power for days on end and therefore having to toss the contents of my freezer. The pounds of fruit I could deal with - if they get too mushy I just make more jam, or blend them into smoothies. But it's the meat that would just crush me. When I see whole chickens for $0.59/lb or ground beef for $0.99/lb I tend to stock up. to combat the lost food worry I had considered a generator. However I don't know A) where I would store it and B) If I could run it on my back deck and use an extension cord to plug in my freezer. So I then started thinking about buying a pressure canner. This way I could make stew, stock, soup, or just cooked meats and they would be shelf stable and not affected by any power outages. I have a gas stove so I have the ability to cook or reheat even if the electricity is out. I know there had been concerns in the 40s and 50s with the canners exploding or being hard to control. Anyone have any reccommendations? And finally - Updates and selected Low-Lights of the past few days: honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=milla&action=display&thread=234honeylioness.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=monse&thread=233&page=1

Honey- I seriously suggest getting rid of the girls before I get there in november or there WILL be smacking going on.
Miami- I leave for my trip this weekend and there are no tropical storms or hurricanes on the radar! Pray that continues. Mom will be at my house for the week dog sitting so I need to get things cleaned up tonight. Lots to do.
Work- aide from being pleasantly surprised at how lovely things are with the Canadian delegate, it's running really smoothly! I am in place to begin working with 3-4 new clients in the next month and trying to see how that will balance time wise. Also a team member has asked me to talk privately because he respects 'how you show up' during calls. Should be an interesting conversation.
Lots to get done today! Off to do it

Happy Birthday MK!!
Yesterday was a spend. I wish I could convince myself it was a controlled spend, but lying to you ladies (and myself) won't get me anywhere.
Nachos: $4.05 Last minute dinner items from Safeway: $10 Battery for Chevy: $80
The battery is a controlled spend, but not the nachos I didn't really need, and not last minute grocery items.
There is probably more I should be saying today, but I have a monster headache and I'm getting a cold, so I'm cranky and having a hard time focusing. *hugs* to Honey cause I know they're needed. Hope everyone else has a good day.

Honey- I think just like the old pressure cookers, modern pressure canners are much safer and easier to use (although my grandmother still goes the old route with Ball Mason jars, etc etc etc- scares the carp out of me- my other grandmother blew a jar up once). I still won't use the pressure cooker at my grandmother's. It's older than I am. No thanks.

I will be doing the bridesmaids dresses, though the details have changed a bit since we began discussing it. I'll be sewing 2 maids dresses and 1 flower girl dress for a total fee of $225. It's a little lower than I was hoping for, but $75 per dress is still a good $/hr amount for me. They purchased all of the supplies, so I don't have to factor material costs into this. I'm hopeful I can get the materials from her tonight and get started.
Dating question: Mr. Potential and I didn't manage to meet up last week due to clashing schedules, and I haven't heard from him in a week. So I was going to send him a note last night only to find out that he's deleted his profile from the dating site. Should I play dumb and send him a "Hi, hope you're having a good week." type text message and see what happens? Or just shrug and chalk it up to experience?

renee - is it possible Mr Potential took down his info because he is dating you?
Thanks for all the feedback on going through clothes. You all reaffirmed my gut feeling of getting rid of most stuff that doesn't fit - with the exception of a few pants/jackets that I love that would be the next size down - but only a few!!
Crazy at work - my quick trip to see a friend was frustrating -a train wreck in slow motion.
I only have 4 more work days (not counting work I'll drag home this weekend) before our big vacation!! I am so ready to be on a break. I'll post final numbers before I leave. I'm planning on being in for October - we will need to stay on budget both during and after this trip!
Honey - I read your updates on your blog - I think you totally are doing the right thing and need to put yourself first. You have extended yourself for these girls and they have abused that. Any idea what the resolution would be or when?

Update: 14/15 NSD, 6/10CSD
MK and MizBear -- Wishing both of you an early Happy Birthday since I don't think I will be online tomorrow.
MrsLynch -- congrats on your new blog area. I pop in to read in often.
Renee -- good news as to the bridemaid dresses. Extra is extra.
Honey-- wishing you a solution to all the havoc you have been going through.
I am sure I missed someone but most nights I only have time to scan the threads.

mizbear - I sent the text, I suppose the worst thing that could happen would be that he either doesn't respond at all or sends a nasty reply. I'm a pessimist about dating. spruby - I have a sinking feeling that it isn't because he's seeing me. My spidy sense is tingling telling me that all is not as advertised in his family life. Again, I'm just a pessimist.

spruby - if it makes you feel any better I just put together a pile of summer clothes I haven't worn in two summers because they are too small to be donated. sad, but had to be done.
reenee - I like spruby's take on the profile disappearing!

October captains volunteers: I think having a captain each week has worked out well so far, and I'd be willing to continue organizing it. So far my list of volunteers is: midwesternjd gin1984 azmom Honeylioness (? I'm pretty sure you volunteered) startsmart (after September) spruby (after October) SES (when she settles into her new job) Dakota4600 (avoid 29-8 of each month) Sheilaincali (avoid first/last week of month) mizbear
Sheila, Dakota, and Mizbear are all captains for September, as well as myself, so that's why they're at the bottom of the list. If you'd be willing to volunteer and you're not on the list, please let me know. If you've already volunteered and would like to be removed from the rotation, please let me know that too.

Happy Birthday MK & MizBear!
reenee: Add me to the volunteer list. My craziness ends Oct 3, after I get back from Firebird's wedding.
We actually got an NSD yesterday. Probably has something to do with the fact that at Noon I called DH and made him promise me we didn't have anything to do last night. And then when I came home from work an hour early, I collapsed on to the bed for the next 2.5 hours until my sinus headache finally went down to manageable levels of pain. I have a dentist appt today, but that should be our only spending.
reenee: I agree with MizBear about sending the text, so I think you did the right thing. Either he responds or he doesn't, either you believe him or you don't. That we can't control, but you never know if you never ask.

reenee - Always listen to your female intuition, it is usually right on the money. startsmart - Have a great time in Miami, and don't get sun burned. The girls - I hope to have a better understanding of process and timing after our meeting tomorrow with the organization's rep. azmom - I am not sure if other will understand this - but I am thinking you would especially. While the girls were downstairs feeding the cats last night I went into their room with my chrism and blessed salt and did a reinforcement of the shields I normally place on the students' room. My radar, and that of my adviser, has been telling us that there is another dimension to what is going on. mizbear - Happy Happy Birthday

Thanks for the birthday wishes!! HUGS everyone! I am prepping for a party at my place tonight, nothing spectacular. It was supposed to be a nice Celebrating Home party, but we have scaled it back to a book party because the weather is nasty and I have had a ton of cancellations. However- after Wednesday- I will be a CH designer!! Yup! I won't make much, just a touch extra, but it will be nice. Plus, I am starting to test products for the Cooking Club of America (granted, that's not a paying gig- but it's fun). I am going to use my CH money to pay off debts and Z-Bear's clarinet (my DB saw me typing and said I really needed to give them screen names if I was going to talk about them- so Niece #1 is now T-Bear, and niece #2 is now Z-Bear, together they are the ZT Express {like a freight train running through}). I am working on my MT stuff slowly to maintain my GPA- plus I have a study buddy and we can only meet once a week. I am giving her a chance to catch up (she had to take a couple weeks to have her baby). I have gotten 2 FREE Starbucks, a FREE SB brownie (ours doesn't carry the sandwiches, so they let me use my bagel coupon on a brownie), a FREE mini sub from the local deli, and a FREE Ruby Tuesday burger- all because it's my birthday. ;D Oh yeah and a FREE Slurpee from my 7-11 (franchise, they've been here for forever- I used to be their paper kid). Will talk to everyone later. I am excited. Honey- Hope everything goes well. Would you explain a bit about the chrism and blessed salt? I know about Holy Water because there are Catholics in the family, but I hadn't heard of blessed salt. I like learning about others tradtions and beliefs.

Happy Birthday MizBear & MittenKitten I'm doing well. I'm counting yesterday as an NS. I did stop and get grandma a cup of soup, but she paid me back. And I didn't get anything for myself. When I got home I walked a mile and then DH & I watched Big Bang Theory and the Office. (Not sure about the office with out Michael Scott.) Tonight we are taking a picnic to the zoo. Everything is already made and just needs to be tossed in a cooler. Tomorrow we'll go to my niece's v-ball game. So it will at best be a CS. I think they charge $1 a person. Got to run. Will have to catch up later.

mizbear - sounds like you're having a great birthday!! love the names for the nieces. congrats on CH - what is that? And yay for lots of free stuff!!
Paid off the fence neighbor yesterday. Well, paid off sounds like it's illegal, but you know what I mean. But that's not really a spend since it was from the insurance money. And I spent $7 this morning on an omlette, my newest Friday breakfast obsession. Way healthier than donuts!
And right now I have a splitting headache from peering at my computer all day doing drone-like tasks. Just one of those days. Ready to go home. We have a dinner party tonight, then my folks come down for the weekend and we're doing LI wineries and hopefully some apple and pumpkin picking if the weather gets better. I love when they visit. I know some people get stressed or just plain don't like their parents, but my mom and stepdad are like two of my BFFs and we always have a great time. And this time we won't put them to work around the house! we're actually going to go do fun things on LI. So should be a good weekend. Hopefully it'll distract blue from his stressful day he's had today with work. Luckily he gets along with my parents really well, too!
Okay, back to being a drone...

Blue just called me and told me that the AC repair guy said our leak was caused by a too-dirty filter. So $120 to pay a guy to figure out something we could have fixed with a hoseoff of the filter. UGH. But I should be grateful it's not something more serious. Just have to patch up the ceiling now...
Been using Mint a bit more and I'm trying to look at it as a sort of contest. Can we spend less this month on groceries than last month, etc. We'll see how we do... next month is going to be off anyways because of our cruise, which I've already blocked off money from our paychecks for so we should (hopefully) be good there. and then Christmas... gotta start planning for that. And will have to keep myself in check for our niece and nephew. I go a little nuts for kids lol.

Having a good day. I have gotten Free Coffee from 2 shops, man am I wired now! Free lunch and DSIS paid for DD's lunch and then took her for the afternoon. I also have coupons for free dinner and $10 free gameplay at Dave and Busters. Plus I have another $10 in free game play for another coupon.
I dressed up, put makeup and jewelry on, had DS#2's para come over and stay with him, took DD and have been having fun. She is just so cute. Asked if she wanted to go to Auntie's house and she said "Yes, Coffee then Aunties!" LOL.
Stopped by a pawn shop and bought 4 games, 2 for the Wii and 2 for the PS2 for $36, so that is a good price.
Oh and it looks like transportation will be reinstated for next week YIPPEE!!!!!
Today I am leaving DS#1 alone for 40 minutes. First time ever. We went over my phone number and what he can and can't do. I have to pick up DS#2 from day treatment and my DSIS is coming over to pick him up and take him to karate. He is being an attacker for a friend and graduation is tomorrow. The nice thing is then this friend will be his attacker in spring!

MK- HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Congrats on the transportation! red- I would never have guessed a dirty filter would cause a leak. Go figure. CH is Celebrating Home. I like the product myself so I would feel comfortabe selling it. They are a bit of the old Home Interior and Home and Garden Party with a new face. Proven products. And being dishwasher safe was a big plus. Honey- Forgot to tell you- I LOVE the Bear!!

Happy birthday MK and Mizbear!
I am jealous of all the treats too! I went out for breakfast since I'd forgotten to eat dinner and was too tired and grumpy to fix myself breakfast this morning. Mom and dad are here, we moved in the new fridge and restocked everything. Then I mowed the lawns. Last bit of packing and make sure all my plants will get watered and I'll be set to go to the airport!
Right now I could just curl up amd sleep for a week so mom is bringing me back coffee from their errands.

Can I get a Mulligan for the last two months??? Last night as I was downtown just waiting for the light to change I heard a big BOOM ... and my back windshield just blew apart into a gazillion pieces. All over the road and inside the car. Really, stick a fork in me ... I'm done.
