DD has other options. Good ones. Much better than the military could ever offer. Some people just want to serve. She is college educated and will be a graduate with an interesting degree but still, could work for step-father, father, and even friends of family on both sides. This isn't her only option but something she wants to do.

She is college educated
So are virtually all officers in the military.

Actually I am pretty sure H is saying exactly that war is almost never justified and he is pointing out that they are not currently being fought for some altruistic higher purposes so American soldiers are dying for petty reasons. And "good life" is subjective.

I think I have a good standard of living, but I am not convinced it is the only good standard of living possible. And now that you bring this up, if we are fighting wars to be the conquerors and reap the rewards we are still barbarians and I'd rather we just say that rather than try to wrap it all up in fake altruism.

So would I but you're overlooking the fact that most Americans actually buy into the lie that we're attempting to "help" others. It would be detrimental to one's political career.

Doc, most of the country bought the big lie, until the WMD were proven to be non existent.

Yes Blue but then you always get the retort "well he was a dictator so we should have deposed him!" Yet we turn a blind eye to genocide in a country that has no resources to offer us.

Doc, the attack by the USA was totally unjustified. Nothing you can say will change that. This country cannot engage in nation building and spreading democracy by force. If we continue our ways, I can actually see the "world" joining forces to stop our aggression.

I wouldn't say it was totally "unjustified". Protecting our national interests by propping up US leaning governments has it's advantages. The world is finite and invariably there will be clashes over resouces...........there is no avoiding that Blue.

There in lies the fault doc. We have no national interests in Iraq. If they don't sell us oil, someone else will, or we can use our own.

Blue do you really believe that? Why do you think we've supported Israel for so long?

This thread is really not suited for this forum.....was it meant to be placed in P&M?

Blue do you really believe that? Why do you think we've supported Israel for so long? Stupidity. We would have a lot fewer enemies if we did not blindly support Israel.

And only 2.7% possess a 4 year college education. That's not many.
