I'm sure it's total chaos there. Until a coroner pronounces someone dead ( unless they are decapitated) a death cannot be "confirmed".

From the news reports I'm reading, the suspect is alive and in custody. Hopefully this will let authorities figure out who he is and what his agenda was (and why he opted for mass murder.)

Representative Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona was shot point blank in the head by a man who opened fire indiscriminately at a constituency meeting in Tucson, U.S. media reported on Saturday.

Giffords, a 40-year-old Democrat in her third term in Congress, was airlifted to a hospital in Tucson shortly after the shooting at a Safeway supermarket in the Arizona city.

"She is currently in surgery. She's alive," University Medical Center spokeswoman Darci Slaten told Reuters. Slaten added that nine other shooting victims were being treated at the hospital.

This is what happens when folks walk around preaching hate and when you put out there such nonsense as "we're coming for you".... someone takes it too seriously, someone picks up a gun and murders people. Enough is frigging enough already!!!!!!!!! It all has to stop and stop now.... the divide and conquer has now turned into murder. Seems she spoke yesterday about securing the borders. A DEM talking that way in public around here is pretty dangerous. The Dems here are the ones promising the promises ti illegals. I really hope this turns out to be some border rights activist, and not some right wing nut job. UMC-- the hospital-- is a very good hospital-- the best. It is connected to the U of A, is a teaching hospital, a very good hospital.

There are no innocents in political killings. Politicians make their stand. They take their chances when they take their stands. It is horrible to lose someone for their political views, but-- they take that chance when they take the office. There are idiots all over the pl;ace that will kill people for their political beliefs. Gabby's office was vandalized a while back-- broken windows and such. I am not sure why she was out in public without security.
This is very sad. I do not like living in a country where people kill each other because they disagree. BUT-- is that naive?? Of course it is. People kill each other all of the time.
Seems there is another suspect-- and 19 people shot- 5 dead, Gabby in surgery-- this really sucks.
