..."why?" on which? ...that I agree with others who say let's look at this particular meal in relation to her whole calorie budget? ...or that I think the broader question is whether we should talk about it in the first place? Ok, Both! ...because I agree that it's best to look at an entire calorie budget when evaluating a line item credit... ...and because I think her calorie budget would be noteworthy to a select audience...

I guess the part where I said Michelle is combating child obesity managed to get past you somehow.

Back when I could have shakes, I always preferred strawberry to chocolate. ...I used to order strawberry shakes every single time... then I spilled one... all over the McDonald's floor... it was so embarrassing... it took me years to order strawberry again...

Seriously?
An article about what the First Lady had to eat, and how many calories it was? Perhaps we need to go back to bashing a fox news pundit for showing up at a rolling thunder motorcycle rally. Now that's worthy, eh? The petty bullshit rolls both ways. Quit posting to the petty, slow news day threads like this and they'll disappear.

Personally, I'm not interested in what Mrs. Obama eats, and I'm not interested in her weight. I am interested, however, in these purported "rules". So far, I haven't seen a sign on the local McDonald's forbidding me (or anyone else) to eat there.

I know what Paul means. It used to really tick me off when there were reports of Laura Bush not being in the Library reading.

If she cannot do the walk, she should not do the talk. I wonder if she is a closet purger? Of course she has a glorious healthcare package to the day she dies, so, she can do whatever she likes, and we the people will pay for it.

I have to admit, she carries her body weight really well. Has to have some good genes, so a few thousand calories can be her "getaway" once in a while without consequences for her.
Just does not look well for the people she is trying to help. You never see the health gurus pigging out.

That's probably because the "health gurus" don't have the press following them everywhere they go and counting their calories for them publicly.

This is just a by-product of the liberal tendency to adopt a "do as I say, not as I do" attitude. If she were not so arrogant, sanctimonious and hypocritical, no one would care what she eats. But, because she chooses to attempt to empower the government to take yet more freedom of choice away from parents by controlling what, when and where their children eat, she brings this type of scrutiny upon herself...

Why don't you tell us in detail how someone with absolutely no legislative power can do such a thing. It might help if you leave the tin foil in the kitchen. This is just more Conservative sour graping and proof they'll they'll whine about everything and anything the Obamas do, even if it's something they agree with, showing how even they're even moreso arrogant, sanctimonious and hypocritical. Did you actually believe that when you typed it?

If you're expecting responses, you're not going to get them because your infantile snarkiness is too stupid to warrant a response...

No one is going to tell me what I can and can not eat. It's just going to be an excuse for more taxes on foods high in fat.

good one Herr Dr...You are right on with the taxes. A Pandoras box was opened when tobacco got hammered. Right wrong or indifferent goverenment will continue expanding into areas attempting to have all live "right" Can you visualize the $10.00 per patty tax at Micky D's?

Exactly how has she done this? I've yet to be turned away from a McDonalds when I have my son with me & no one even blinks when I order him a burger & fries. It appears I still have all my freedoms.

I'm with Angel... when has she ever done that? ... If you don't like the removal of soda machines and candy bar vending machines in the school... send some in their packed lunch...

All First Ladies are supposed to have some kind of platform, and I don't think healthy eating is a bad platform. Nobody raked Laura Bush across the coals for watching TV when her platform was promoting literacy.
So Michelle had an unhealthy lunch. So what? It's not a bad thing when it's a once in a while occurence. Nobody has mentioned the use of the veggies from White House garden in the White House meals

It's not the platform that bad, it's what they do with it. Attempting to control what people eat (bad or otherwise) is just plain wrong. And it's about the money. I'm guessing YUM foods stopped contributing to them and this is there revenge.

There's no way anyone is trying to control what you eat by simply making suggestions. Dieticians make suggestions, doctors make suggestions, nurses make suggestions ... all concerning what you eat. They're not trying to control you, but to help you make good decisions for your health. If you decide to ignore the advice, that's your prerogative.

Placing a tax on soda, banning trans fats from restaurants proposing fast food taxes...................where did these spring from? Mainly the fat hysteria driven by people like her.

If people could see what I eat from time to time, they'd probably faint dead away. Yet, at nearly 70, my cholesterol is in the 150s, I'm 5'6" and 117 pounds with no cardiac problems, no diabetes, and no other chronic conditions. Heck, I still don't wear glasses unless I'm trying to read very small print! Lucky genetics and really good eating habits as a child also play in, I believe.
