dsunshine - Great work on crunching the numbers. Sometimes all we can see is thirty days ahead, and if we can make that work, we can find a way to make the next 30 work. I never, ever thought I would be in a situation where I was trying to figure out how to come up with grocery money. But I always found a way. I am hoping for a successful business buy out and new renters soon.

dragon2008 that is the unknown. Six months ago it was "We will have everything next month." For the last 2 months is has been "Next week everything should be taken care of". Then last week there was a fear that I would not get bought out at all because I may not be a legal member of the LLC. This weekend I found out that I am a legal member.....whew! I think we are much closer now and I am hoping for next week, but with the reality of how things have really not progressed I can see it taking another month.
mcreal, you are so right. Seeing that I have a little money left over makes me think that maybe next month will be better. I will be frugal as always. One of my friends has been very supportive and a great shoulder to cry on. She has pretty much said she will not let me go without food. Good thing is I don't really eat a lot...but I have cravings:) My friend has been raving about these cookies that her 12 year old has been making...so, I bought the peanut butter chips for the recipe and put in an order. That made her daughter so happy!

I just have to say that I am so glad I found these boards and am happy to be a part of this group. Even though we all see some comments that are harsh reality I know that we all have each others best 'financial' interests at heart. I smile and laugh at all of the fun competition, I have cried with others for their familial losses and (silently) cheered them on with their wins. Thank you to all and a special thank you to the captains!!!

Dsunshine and Mcreal you are in my thoughts and hope you both have a well deserved reprieve soon. Mcreal the strength, courage and stamina you have shown throughout last year amazed me. You are one tough cookie and I know having to be "the rock" isn't easy. Dsunshine I am glad to see this month will be easier than you thought, and hope those that follow will be as well. I wish I had advice for both of you, but having been there a few times last year, all I can say is somehow we always manage. Somehow, we find a way. You will too, I don't know your beliefs but sometimes it is easier to just believe whatever happens is meant to and with reason, no matter how bad things seem. We somehow always come out on top with a little more experience to draw from the next time.

I am going to do shoutouts and smileys here shortly but there is a current list for those between 26k and 100k. That I got going on the main board thanks to SBS and her wonderful lists. I will update it here again next week now that I have some new numbers and split it out for 26-50 and 50-99.9 too.

I need some advice:
My fiance will be living here by the end of the month in what will be "our" condo, but for now is my place. I'll be staying with some friends from my church until the wedding so we aren't living together before our big day (something his parents have asked us to do since we moved up the date for him to move out here since he was having a hard time finding work out there). So here comes my question... we will essentially be slowly merging our finances up until the wedding... Not names on accounts, but i'll be incharge of all of our collective money once my fiance starts getting a paycheck...
But it will kind of be like we are married financially...Bascially, i'll be sleeping somewhere else, but we'll be grocery shopping, gas money pooling, insurance shopping, and have all our moving costs and changes to the condo that will need to be paid for as a COUPLE and we'll be making financial choices together.
My fiance owes a little bit of money to his parents because they helped him out with school and some car issues when he wasn't able to work. It's under $2,000.00 and they aren't asking him to pay it back anytime soon, but his goal is to get rid of it before the wedding & save money for the honeymoon... but that all depends on how much work he can get and how much our costs will go up with him living here.
I'm trying to decided if i should add in his debt to my race next month when we have final numbers on everything, or just wait until we are married first?

...I'm trying to decided if i should add in his debt to my race next month when we have final numbers on everything, or just wait until we are married first? First off congrats! ;D Personally, I wouldn't look at it as not a married/not married issue. Since this is a "squishy" debt, I would wait until he finds a job and will be able to start paying it off before I added it to the race. I know that you said you are working on combining your finances, but would it help him build confidence if he started his own race here and "competed" against you?

Hope you find a renter pronto!! Maybe the business would pay part of the CC?? Or is that a min could you pay less for a few months?? Good news on 2 fronts....I posted my house for rent on Craigslist yesterday and got 3 responses in less than 5 hours. I talked with a lady last night that made me feel very comfortable and seemed open to discussing a rent to own option. As for the business CC debt, I talked with the guy buying me out last night and we are hoping to have everything solved by next week some time. Then he said...if we don't have it solved by the 16th he will just pay the credit card off!!!!!! Looks like I don't have to worry about that anymore. As for my numbers on the member list...I restarted my race on WPT8 and the numbers are not being reflected on the list. My numbers should be, dsunshine 1/30/2011 $35,681.41 (1/30/2011 $35,681.41 WPT8), which means I will actually be joining the 25K-50K group too...but maybe not for long ;D Thank you for all the well wishes and thank you captains for you hard work.

I hit $25k paid off!! Next week, on the 11th, it will be the last time I pay $50+ in interest on the USL. Heck, in October, I'll even owe less than I borrowed on that thing, 11 years and 5 months after I graduated.(There's a part of me that want to find an extra $50 and hit that point in September, but our budget might be a bit tight for that.) As I've said before, I figure I've got another 4 years to go on this race, so I'm celebrating the little milestones.

ambellamy: Well, since you're getting married soon and are going to start the financial combine even sooner, why don't you make this decision one of your first joint debt payoff discussions. Tell him about the board, what it's meant to you, and why you do this. Tell him you were considering adding his debt to his parents to your race, but since its now going to be your collective race, you wanted to discuss it with him first. The reason I suggest this is because this should be a pretty non-stressful conversation. The plan is to pay off the debt before the wedding, regardless, and it shouldn't be a huge deal one way or the other if the debt is added to your race. And that makes it ideal. Get yourselves used to talking about joint finances with the little stuff so that when the big stuff comes up, the habit already exists.

I have to chime in here with a saying that one of my BFFs says constantly - she has had a lot of challenges in her life including being homeless for a few months. She would always say "When you're down to nothing, God is up to something!" Please note that sometimes the second part of that phrase was said with a considerable amount of sarcasm!! But it got her through a lot of bad things....and eventually, God did come up with something.

Everything is going reasonably well. I worked 58 hours a couple weeks ago to try to catch up. I have been working on our taxes and we are going to owe 1400. (Ouch) But at least I know early, we have already managed to save $700 for taxes, so if i can just work another extra day here or there we should be good. Other than that, while everyone else is losing weight, I have only 2 pairs of jeans left... I thought I would be in my regular clothes longer... I think this is going to be a big baby. Wishing everyone the best! Especially those in a tight situation.

Ambellamy Do what you feel is right. IF you think the pressure to pay of your future hubby's debt will put a strain on your relationship don't do it. Let him work it out on his own, If it won't cause pressure, then add it and be done with it. You are awesome and it sounds like he will be learning a lot from you financially. You have been quite impressive with your races! Quite an inspiration. I wish I was a savvy as you when I was your age.

Okay ladies and gent. I need some advice. My tax refund should be about 12k. 2k will be spent on upgrading my electric, 2k for my sons washington trip, about 2k on my older son's truck and transmission (we bought him a 600 dollar 1994 dodge ram-runs great but needs transmission). Both kids are doing extra chores and babysitting to work toward these goals. I am hoping, once my older son gets his truck running and has a license he will take a part time job-if it doesn't interfere with his school work. This leaves about 6 k. Where should I put it? CC2 has 3.99 until paid in full CC5 has a 1.99 interest rate until July 2011 then 8% CC4 has the largest amount- I have 3.99 on 10k of it until 2/12, 1.99 on 2.5 k until 10/12, and 2.99 on 6k of it until paid in full. The default rate will be 10% on these Storecard 1 has 0% until 8/13 So, my thoughts are 1. pay down CC5 vs 2. pay off storecard1, CC2 and put the remainder to CC5 (it would be nice to see more 0's but the interest rates are lower). 3. I am not sure what to do about CC4- should I apply it all toward it? If I do option 1 I will save about 110 per month Option 2 about the same option 3 about 140 (currently pay 300, new payment would be 160) Any input is much appreciated!

dvm07I am very sad about the smileys but, in reality, I changed my start amount to close to 180k by putting everything on there except my mortgages, that being said, I can't complain, I am still happy to have been able to stay out of the 100k club! In April I wil be starting a new position and am scared to death. I still haven't seen the salary offer- It will be a pay cut If I stay in my current position, I will receive an even larger pay cut come december. I am very worried and am spending every extra penny toward debt so my monthly bills and I can survive once the cut hits. I want to be done with the consumer part of my race by June next year. then, I will probably pull this race with the remainder student loan debt (that I wanted to remove but didn't want to cause more confusion) and start race 2 with the student loan and a second mortgage that is from my retirement and the interest and payments go back into my retirement. I want to be done with those debts by December 2013. Then I will race my mortgage. Hefty plans- but there is a light at the end of the tunnel!!
