sealy: I personally would let my mortgage increase to keep my savings intact. I would take the $105 from savings to pay the penalty on the alarm and then focus your efforts back on rebuilding your savings. I hate taking from my savings account also..or I take too much and pay things off too fast and have no savings.

I paid off my CC but now I feel like a hamster running on a circular wheel. I will pay off the fee and save as much as I can. I still have two primary bills CC #1 and car payment. I will begin to post my CC #1 again because it's almost back to the balance I had in the beginning. Thank you sooo much for your support and encouragement. I plan to call my mortgage company and pay more on my escrow(?) account that way I'll have a bigger cushion.

Sealy, I can relate to the annoyance of having the escrow account for my mortgage going up & down, mainly up. I also tried to just pay a lump sum to make up the difference but that wasn't allowed. The last time I refinanced with my credit union, I requested no escrow account--that I would be responsible for paying my property taxes & house insurance. They allowed that but I don't know that all financial institutions will permit it. It might depend on the institution &/or the individual's financial standing and relationship with it. The escrow account protects their investment in your house. I make very sure that I set enough aside to pay those bills as soon as they come due as I don't want to have to go back to an escrow account.

There's no reason to let that go to collections if it's only $105. Pay it and move on. As for the mortgage, how much is it going up? How will that increase fit in your budget? I don't think your savings amount can take the hit, but you will obviously need to adjust the family budget to compensate. Look at where you can trim from other categories.

Look at where you can trim from other categories. It will go up about $94. I paid the fee so I don't have to worry about that anymore. I am going to move on. I will let my mortgage increase and then work on putting more money into escrow. Thank you both very much. That really does help. I need to make one more payment on my car and it won't be due until September 13th. I won't have to worry about a car payment in the summer.

Moving slower than I'd like since I had some extra expenses these last few months but the regular payment posted so here goes:
startsmart: 5/22/2014 $633.72 (3/19/2008 $14,157.31 W155,695)
Still should be able to pay it off this year and I hate dragging it out but that's where I am.

I know how hard it can be to pay off debt when this time of year is vacation central and family crazyness due to schools being out.

Smartstart - keep turtling along. Mega - you have paid over $1500 on your second race! Are you going to try and finish it this year? Laramilk - You have just over $7700 left. You are doing great. Shane - I hope things are going well on the home front and a job offer is coming! Sealy - Hopefully the mortgage fiasco has been sorted out and you have a more stable budget. Surprises - expensive surprises - really suck. nooccar - You have paid over $25K! Ambellamy - I hope to see some good numbers soon! Rocky - thanks for the money insight. Co-captains - thank you for all the work you do! If I left someone out sorry!

My goals for the next 6 months:
1. Be at least one month ahead on my house payment. 2. Have my car paid off. 3. Have CC #1 out of the double digits. 4. Have at least $1000 in my EF. 5. Lose weight by being healthier. 6. Relax and enjoy being me.

Snapdragon - Thanks for the shoutout! I do plan on having that pesky student loan paid off by the end of the year. Unfortunately, our primary vehicle just died, so I may be adding another debt race soon.
Welcome to amiteraus!

Welcome, @amiteraus! What kind of plan do you already have for your pesky debt? We could probably offer tips better if we start with what you've got to start with.

Rocky Mtn Saver I plan to use the snowball method with the smallest debts first - the medical bills. But first I need to get my emergency fund up to $1,000, which I am $200 away from achieving. I currently have a full time steady job and just started a second part-time evening job, which should help speed up the process of paying down these debts. On that note, I have an update. My parents surprised me by a couple of weeks ago by offering to pay off my student loans. It is a very bittersweet situation. My parents wanted to help pay for my college education 10 years ago, but couldn't make it happen (financially). My grandma passed away earlier this year and left a small inheritance to my mom. My parents decided to use some of that inheritance to pay off my student loans. I am extremely grateful for their help. amiteraus: 7/22/14 $26,807.80 (6/26/14, $35,191.85, W80) Debt | Interest Rate | 07/22/14 | 06/26/14 | PTD | % PTD | Final Payment Date | Medical Bill #1 | 12.00% | $1,049.42 | $1,113.29 | $63.87 | 5.74% | -- | Medical Bill #2 | 0.00% | $942.66 | $1,192.66 | $250.00 | 20.96% | -- | Medical Bill #3 | 0.00% | $478.71 | $578.71 | $100.00 | 17.28% | -- | Auto Loan | 6.90% | $3,788.73 | $3,881.71 | $92.98 | 2.40% | -- | Student Loan | 3.88% | $0.00 | $7,881.60 | $7,881.60 | 100.00% | 7/22/2014 | CC #1 | 13.24% | $6,788.17 | $6,859.96 | $71.79 | 1.05% | -- | CC #2 | 16.99% | $11,867.86 | $11,756.67 | -$111.19 | -0.95% | -- | CC #3 | 0% until Jan 2014 | $1,892.25 | $1,927.25 | $35.00 | 1.82% | -- | Total | -- | $26,807.80 | $35,191.85 | $8,384.05 | 23.82% | -- |

I will add my recently obtained vehicle loan soon. Right now, I'm still too bummed about it. Because, more debt. (We had been saving up for a new (to us) vehicle, so that helped a little, but our old one died a little too unexpectedly. UGH!)
On a more positive note, that student loan will be paid off in the new few months! Woot!

Consolidation of the WIRR Boards Just wanted to let people know that we’re planning to consolidate the WIRR regions into a single group/thread. This will help facilitate more discussion & accountability, and the updates. I’m not sure when this will happen, but it should be sometime in the near future. More to come!
In the meantime, I need the captain(s) from each region to contact me, and to send me their current spreadsheet so we can start consolidating them into one. minnesotagirl7_wirr@hotmail.com

That's great that your parents were able to help like that, @amiteraus! If I were you, I'd take the amount that you were paying to that student loan each month and put it toward one of your CC's rather than most of the medical bills. The 0% medical bills are free money, so I wouldn't be in a hurry to get rid of those, but you could also focus on the 12% one to get rid of it. Great job so far!!
