trojen3 That is so great that your husband is coming home early and safe!! nomoredebtpls So glad you found us during this crazy time. Just so you know Coffee Girl is our overall leader, but to keep it sane there are Captains for each area of the country and intl. We keep track of our region and post update threads. Until further notice Slowbutsure is keeping it for us, LarmieK already posted to you, then there is myself and Dragon2008. We are very excited to know new people found us but do come back frequently because we will be making lots of chances in the next few weeks-sorry about that but we have only been here on proboards for 3 weeks!

Thanks SlowbutSure! I am working on the CC as quickly as possible. I am trying not to let the frustration take hold, but I do admit I am getting impatient. I feel like I can never get ahead on the CC. I am a tortoise in this race and wish I made more $$$ to pay it off more quickly. I don't report it that often on the boards, but Mr. Murphy likes to make unexpected visits quite often, so it makes it hard to keep my EF fully funded. Which reminds me... here are my 2011 Goals:
1. Stick to my budget - I had this goal for 2010 and was extremely successful. 2. Pay CC balance down to $3,000 by end of December 2011 - This is what my budget predicts, but I am going to push hard this year and will hopefully be below this goal (or, gasp!, paid off by the end of the year). 3. Maintain EF of $500 - Like I mentioned above, Murphy has a way of paying me visits... often. I have worked very hard at my budget this year to try and plan better, so this should not be too challenging. We will see what 2011 brings!

Welcome nomoredebtpls! We are glad to have you. Just a few things that you may want to think about... 1. First off, to remain on the active list, you need to post no less than every 2 months. At the beginning, I found it easiest to post every month once my mortgage payment cleared. 2. This is just a suggestion, take it or leave it... From my experience on WIRR, it is difficult for new people to write down their debts, post every month and only then realize how long their races are going to be. Due to their discouragement, they stop posting. I've seen a couple come back and usually with more debt. We don't get into debt overnight, so we aren't getting out of it that quickly either. Anyway, my suggestion is for you to run a very small race, something that you know you will be finished with within 6 months to a year. If that means to not race your mortgage and to get rid of the personal loan, so be it. If it is just to race one credit card, that in and of itself is fantastic. I really want you to succeed in your race, especially since you are going through such turmoil now. If you want to do that, just post an update saying you are modifying your race. No, you don't have to do that now; you can do it anytime that you want. Just think about it, ok? 3. I'm sure you have plenty of other questions. Soon our permanent threads will be up and running; I'm sure CoffeeGirl will address questions you don't know you have. If you think of any more, just post it on the thread and someone will get back to you.

Experimenting with the glowy to help keep track of which debt went down. DH started school last week and the quarter has all been paid for. It went on the credit card (for the points) and the pay off is already scheduled, so there will be no interest, no new debt. So that is win #1 of 2011. To the new folks: Welcome! We have the best captains here. As has already been stated, it can be hard to maintain motivation. I paid off 1/3 of my debt in my first year, but I'm still on a 5 year plan (1 down, 4 to go). Things that help me stay motivated: -Creating the plan. Even if I know its going to change in a few months, I create the plan. Having an end date for my race, even one as far out as 1/11/2015, still lets me count down the days as well as the dollars. -Post on the board. You only have to post once every two months. I post twice every month. In the early days it was because I had a whole bunch of stuff due at the start of the month and a whole bunch due at the end, so I would post mid month and end of month. It helped me keep track of what was going down when. Now I'm down to two big debts, and I post when each of them gets paid in the month. Why? We have the best captains (yes, I'm repeating myself). The shoutouts really do help me stay motivated. For example, I still owe more on the USL than I borrowed (and I graduated 10.5 years ago), but it has the lower interest rate, so it has lower priority on being paid off. This gets to me occasionally. But dvm pointed out that if I combine my student loans - GSL and USL, I do owe less than I borrowed. Its little things like that that keep me going on days when I feel like this is never going to end. But it will end. On Jan 11, 2015, 4 years from today. And then I'm throwing party.

One Step Closer 12/27/10; W218; $31,905.09 and is now $31,760.09!
Made a debt payment of $145.00 and completely paid off the bill - not to mention a processing fee but since it was not part of the bill I did not take it off the debt total. That is the good news - the bad news it that I lost my job at the home improvement store. They changed the schedule on me without notice, and after I called in about it. So two no call no shows and i was gone. I asked who changed and it was my direct supervisor for the department - the person who has not liked me since day one. But its okay, I will find another job soon: I pray.
We are happy that everyone is doing so well, and for those who have hit hard time - you know who you are- we pray for you and wish everyone the best!

One Step Closer - forgot to mention this!
got notice a few days ago that two bills we do not have to pay any more. We won our case against a company who trained us to do work for them so that is $7000.00 off our debt, and we turned in our old vehicle and that was $5270.54 that has been removed too. So the new posting will be......
One Step Closer 12/27/10: $31,905.09: $24,774.76 Thank God!!!!!!

dvm07 1/13/11 81,257.75 (12/30/09 99,945 WU12,WU88)Time for my real update Was very excited to finally have the SL down to half of its original amount. And I have officially paid 10k off of the house mortgage! Which made me happy along with getting the interest payment under 900/mos-1 month latter then planned. Some days this all seems to take forever. on a different note has anyone hear from mcreal I am worried about loosing her right now with all that she has been going through this last month.

She hasn't posted yet, but she is on the member list. Hey all! I just read an e-mail from CoffeeGirl. She's doing fine, but she's been facing one challenge after another lately - the latest one is with her granddad in the hospital. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Anyway, she's working on the wording for the official threads, so those should be up and running really soon. Plus, it looks like we will have the smiley posts again in the official thread! Yup! I'm addicted to seeing them too. In the meantime, please be patient and continue practicing on this thread. As before, if you have any questions, feel free to PM me or any of the other captains. Thanks to all of you for keeping your spirits up during this transitional phase.

"on a different note has anyone hear from mcreal I am worried about loosing her right now with all that she has been going through this last month."
I'm here - I read every day. I just have not taken the time to figure out the cool stuff or post. My end of year financial update was grim, as I thought it would be. I have two daughters back in college, the run-away is home trying to get herself back on track, my mother needs constant help, and my job has become very stressful. Most days I can't see the light in the tunnel, I just keep putting one foot in front of the other. I will have an update this month, so that at least I am accountable. But Murphy really does need to find somewhere else to hang out for awhile. Someone hit my car in a parking lot and left, $300 deductable. DD eyeglasses broke $100, college books for DD2 $700. Im hanging on by threads.
Thanks for keeping me focused you all!

mcrealI am really glad we didn't loose you. I wish there was more we could do to help. But threads count for something!! There is a place where you can Rent college books now, its online, you should have DD2 check it out.

mcreal: If DD2 likes to write in her text books (making rental a less ideal option) try using barnes and nobles text book site. Besides new versions they offer used versions from private sellers. I just got DH's text books, which would have been over $300 from the college bookstore, for less than $125, including expedited shipping, by going through there. Aslo, half.com tends to have good deals on used text books.

mcreal: The best way I found to get books cheaper is to go to the bookstore and get the ISBN from the book and simply google it. You'll get tons of hit if the book is a regularly published book. Used and international version of book are great options and much cheaper.

UPDATE!
LVBriannaRN: 01/14/11 22,850 (1/7/10, 29068.03, WU23)
The tables are really nice, but I lack the motivation to use them, so for now, I am just going to do a simplified update.
I missed updating on my 1 year anniversary because we were on vacation back in our home state of michigan. Which was nice, minus the horrible food poisoning. Oh well. When we got back I took my dh to the ER because he just wasn't getting better. Can't wait to see that bill. Also, this week went to see my OB and there was such mention of a payment plan....ouch. And of course, this all comes at a time my hubby's tuition is due.... fantastic. So I think there will be much turtling in the near future. My really good news is, I am getting my first ultrasound next week, so I get to see my baby for the first time, which makes all this sacrifice hardly even noticable! Everyone have a fantastic weekend!

I hope that better job comes along quickly - Good Luck! And congrats on kissing those bills good-by! You are really doing well! Mcreal: It is tough just trying to slog thru life. Please try and take care of yourself! DVM07: Congrats on getting that mortgage interest down! LVBriannaRN: Turtling is good! It sounds like you have quite a bit on your plate right now, between hubby and baby's first pictures!

Thanks everyone for the tips on the school books, she is renting a couple, borrowed a couple and hunted the best deals online and it was still over $700. BUT - we found a small scholarship she earned (they never notified us) and she made RA for next year (free housing and food) and got a part time job this year (which takes care of her spending money). So, little by little, I keep this boat afloat. Sometimes I feel I am emptying it with a thimble though.
