Update
nooccar (2): 3/3/11 $69464.13 (11/4/2010 $73475.09 WU197) Yeah! I have my taxes finally rough-drafted so I could use the money set aside "just in case" on the mortgage. I'm looking forward to putting more on it once my refund comes back.

This has been a very bad week in our household. On Tuesday, our Smokey dog was diagnosed with a tumor in his spleen. Given the other issues he's having, there's pretty much no chance the tumor is benign. For multiple reasons, we've chosen palliatative care, and are enjoying every tail thump and kiss we get right now. I am very greatful to this board because it meant that when we were discussing treatment options, we could honestly ignore the cost element, because we have our EF and budget plans in place that would have allowed us to afford even the really expensive stuff.

shanandoah I am so sorry to hear about your dog. I think palative is the right choice for what you are describing. removing spleens is relatively easy, removing spleens with cancer is a crap shoot that only occ buys time and even then not much. Usually I think owners are happier just spending the time with the dog until there isn't any more.

I am really happy to say, we continue to chip away at our debt, while still being able to put some savings aside, although not as much as I would like. All these little nagging medical bills, but I put them on no interest payment plans, just so we dont have to dig into our emergency fund. On the upside, I am now done with our taxes. I didn't even know you could owe the gov't $1400, but we have been agressively saving for that so we can pay it by the end of this month. I really think April will be the month we make big strides.

shanendoah - Sorry to hear about Smokey! luckyinsf - You don't need to post the table, but if you want, go ahead and post what you have now. I (and others) could help you fix the code by looking at it and then you can go back and modify it.

UpdateFebruary was a good month for me. My federal and state tax refunds amounted to just over $2000, so I used half of it to pay off Discover. Another 0! We had our annual review at work and although the raise was insignificant (1%), I received a bonus that I’m really happy with - $1800 (although it was only about $1000 after taxes). With the rest of my tax refunds and this bonus, I’m able to build my EF back up to $1000, put a little in my Roth IRA, and put most of the rest in my various savings accounts. rosebud30: 3/4/11 $22,594.66 (8/7/08 $40,810 W349) Name of Debt | Current Date | Current Debt $ | Starting Date | Starting Debt | Total Paid | % Paid off | AmEx | 3/4/2011 | $4,980.28 | 9/7/2008 | $5,918.00 | $937.72 | 15.85% | BofA | 3/4/2011 | $3,959.52 | 9/7/2008 | $8,703.00 | $4,743.48 | 54.50% | Chase | 3/4/2011 | $6,451.83 | 9/7/2008 | $13,973.00 | $7,521.17 | 53.83% | Citi1 | 3/4/2011 | $3,468.03 | 9/7/2008 | $4,171.00 | $702.97 | 16.85% | Citi2 | 3/4/2011 | $3,735.00 | 8/1/2010 | $4,150.00 | $415.00 | 10.00% | Discover | 3/4/2011 | $0.00 | 9/7/2008 | $1,761.00 | $1,761.00 | 100.00% | Macy's | 3/4/2011 | $0.00 | 9/7/2008 | $448.00 | $448.00 | 100.00% | Visa | 3/4/2011 | $0.00 | 9/7/2008 | $1,686.00 | $1,686.00 | 100.00% | Total | | $22,594.66 | | $40,810.00 | $18,215.34 | 44.63%

NoMoreMrDebtGuy – Congratulations for getting under $400K AND happy one-year anniversary! Fantastic and paying more than $1k/month is nothing to sneeze at. Salserabarby – Whoo Hoo; look at you go! More than 45% paid off. Do you see the other side of the hill yet? Stormysix – Sorry about all the curve balls that life has thrown you recently. But, you were able to take care of them without adding to your debt, so that’s HUGE! Pat yourself on the back for that. I hope your new position works out well for you. Yup, I got your revised starting debt. Could you please add WPT 320 (for post 320) to your tagline. Thanks! Trojen3 - I’m so glad your DH came home! Is his Tour of Duty over? Please thank him so much for his service and give him a big ol’ hug from us. Credit_buster – Great job at keeping the bills away during the holidays! By this time next year, you could be through with your race. Nooccar – You’ve made tremendous progress since your last update! Hopefully, your refund will come back soon so you can continue your sprint. Shanendoah – Again, I’m so sorry to hear about your pup. Hope you and he are doing really well. Alpinista – Congratulations on your promotion! That’s absolutely wonderful, especially since your race will be done that much sooner. luckyinSF - You go girl! Wow, we started near the same time and you’re almost halfway through your race. Fantastic! Lvbriannarn – Looks like you are doing much more than just chipping away at your debt, especially since you’re saving and paying off the IRS at the same time. Rosebud – Yippee on your latest zero! You are going to be finished with your race quicker than you can imagine if you keep this up. Salalsal –Congratulations to you on getting below the 300K mark… that’s stupendous! And that’s a great way to end the shout-outs this week! I’ll update the smileys tomorrow, so stay tuned for that. You all are doing so incredibly marvelous; I love seeing everyone’s debt go farther and farther down each month. Keep up all your great work!

Request to All - If you haven't sent Coffeegirl your e-mail address, please do so or you can PM me or another West captain. Proboards has received a complaint against some of the content on another board and gave out a warning notmsnmoney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=fun&action=display&thread=4388. The specific content has been removed, but now that the poster has an open ear to complain to, I expect an increasing number of complaints in the future. Proboards could shut us all down. Yes, I'm being a pessimist about this. We've already lost a few posters in the last move (not many thankfully, but still one due to the move is a loss), so please tell someone your e-mail address just in case. Coffeegirl will be the only one who uses them and then only to keep in touch with you all. Thanks!

Well, today we filed out federal and state taxes online - with much needed help from the IRS and state of NM. We do get refunds from both and the federal will go towards DH student loans. And this years the federal government is making sure we get our info about the student loans - in past years we would request info on who to pay and get nothing in return. This past week we were unable to save money since we had to pay for two nights in a hotel room - the only hotel in this town cost us $95 a night, plus food. So we have to make it up in the coming weeks. It does push back paying off Qwest but have to take care of ourselves while working on the road.

UPDATE Debt | Date | Current Value | Starting Date | Starting Value | % Paid off | HELOC | 3/24/2011 | $13,800.00 | 1/1/2011 | $14,550.00 | 5.15% | Mortgage | 3/24/2011 | $121,700.00 | 1/1/2011 | $123,000.00 | 1.06% | Total | 3/24/2011 | $135,500.00 | 1/1/2011 | $137,550.00 | 1.49%
pauletteg 3/9/2011 $135700 (1/1/2011, $137550 WPT11) Note: the mortgage looks recent, but I actually paid 30% of it over seven and a half years, and now I pay a whopping 0.5% a month. Question: for women who are neither at the "I have enough $$ to fund my short-term & medium goals" nor at the "I have enough $$ to pay my debt at once and enough to fund my short-term goals" how do you balance your savings and your debt goals? E.g. if you had $20,000 in liquid savings but you had to replace your roof and wanted to upgrade your windows; and your ancient car keeps needing things replaced so you are simultaneously saving for a replacement and repairing it; and you have a sizable tax bill waiting for payment at the middle of next month but your household is suffering from a temporary dip in income; and you had a HELOC you are afraid the credit union is going to either restrict or rescind because owing to circumstances beyond your control your house value is less than it was when you got the HELOC five years ago? What do you do? Little drips in savings and debt buckets everywhere keeping fingers crossed?
