I also need to find a new homeowner's insurance company, I've just about had enough of Allstate... *sigh* A pox on Allstate's house!

Maybe I should just make "interest isn't friendly" a motto... Managed to pull together enough money to pay off what I spent (just food and transportation. People are getting handcrafted things this year. ) Still managed to be up by 4 dollars somehow. Oh, I know how... "Interest isn't friendly." This is all part of a practice... ~.~;;; Keep up the good work, everyone!

So we decided to do the responsible things for the holidays and stay home instead of traveling to my mother's and seeing family up there. So my family has invited themselves to my home instead. And when I made it clear that I was not housing them all in my two bedroom condo, they felt that I should help them pay for the hotel. They are getting an amazing deal - 3 nights around $200 total for a hotel that it $100+/night. They are splitting it three ways - between my mother and sister who are staying there and my brother who was invited to stay at our house months ago. I told them no, I have to feed you while you are here. So instead of not getting even further behind, our grocery budget is bust and I have to figure out how to not have my family kill each other while they are here visiting. My husband refusing to take down our tree and our train set, because he did not want the babies to come visit anyway so we have two crawlers that we are going to have to constantly redirect. My sister is pretty good with keeping her little one out of trouble but my mother does not watch my other niece at all so I'm going to have to just so that our stuff is safe. I feel awful not wanting my family around me for the holidays, but my house is not baby proof and I don't think I should have to baby proof it around the holidays when you invited yourself to my place. If I invite you knowing I have the time to make sure it is safe, ok. But really I do not have the time right now. My work schedule is insane and that is why I wasn't going anywhere on top of the expense to go anywhere. UG!!

Anyone who I have not emailed or who is not connected to me on Facebook: The Westboro Baptist Church has decided they're going to protest THE SANDY HOOK FUNERALS. It's not enough to protest military funerals, now they're going to attack CHILDREN. Anyone and everyone who is in or near Connecticut, or if you can get there to be with your friends, please do show up to help create a blockade of these cretins! www.humanevents.com/2012/12/15/westboro-cult-plans-on-protesting-sandy-hook-funerals/

Hey Ladies - well it's been an up and down kinda couple of months! My numbers, sadly, are up, due to a major malfunction with my car. Again. BUUUUUUUTTTT! I had a great year end review so got a raise and a bonus - so that money will be going to pay off a big chunk of that particular little craptastic disaster. Sigh. I'm trying to put off buying a new car quite yet - I really really want to run this thing into the ground. Should be good for a while longer. Funny thing - I had my numbers already set and prepped to post on 11/30 and totally forgot that I hadn't! My bad! So the payments here reflect more than one month, and don't have the new payment to BOA on there yet. But here they are in all the evil glory! Heading home to NY for the holidays - gonna do a 4am start, maybe even earlier - anyone wanna help with a wake-up call on Saturday? Just a thought... I will be too busy to check in for the next week or so, and wish all who are celebrating a merry Christmas. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I had to slow down my racing payments to double the minimum payments this year, but thankfully, I have been able to get all of my family's Christmas gifts with cash or the one credit card that is paid in full every month. I hope your holidays are wonderful, and I'll see you in the new year.

Hope everyone had a happy holiday and is looking forward to the new year ahead! Since I've been procrastinating on it, and my mother offered to sit with me and make me do it - I called citibank and bank of america and asked them both to lower my interest rates. They both lowered my credit card rates, not by much, but every single point less is correct direction for me! Citi was kinder and lowered my rate by 2 points. BOA lowered my rate by a single point, but also waived my finance charges from last month and switched me to the new rewards card. Now that that's out of the way, I feel a little better about it. Won't be so nervous to do it again in 6 months. Did y'all know that Citi checks their member's rates and stuff in February and August? Not sure that the CSR was supposed to tell me that, but she did and know we all know! ;D Anyway...going to go out of my way to make more changes this year. Not making resolutions so much as organized plans and objectives. Unlike normal resolutions (eat less junk food, lose weight, exercise more, etc.) I make the plan to learn a new crochet stitch every year and work on a completely different project than I've worked on before. Five years and counting that I've actually accomplished this objective. Losing weight, well, not so much! But I'll get there!

Finally, finally, finally . . . I closed on my house yesterday! It's been a long four months since it went under contract, but it's a done deal. My Home Equity Line of Credit is now paid off! Here is my new number . . . I just realized I only have one debt, my mortgage. Update 12/29/12 Munjoyhill 12/29/12 $120,339.95 ($155,340.30 6/18/09) That's it, just one debt for $120,339.95 for the mortgage on my condo! I made a decent profit on the sale of my house, unfortunately it wasn't enough to pay off the mortgage on my condo, which is my goal. I am going to invest the profit, I'm meeting with my financial advisor next week, plus I will be making extra principal payments, so my plan is to pay off my condo mortgage in four years, which will be about the time I will retire. Happy New Year!

I love the end of December when I look back over the past year and compare the progress made since joining this group just 3 short years ago. Although it's tempting to wish that the debt numbers look far better than they do, I really can't complain given the various home improvement expenses, new furniture purchases, the $7,200 tuition bill, and the $1k dental expense realized this year in addition to a 20% pay cut taken in June. I think it's better to focus on the accomplishments instead. Like a 3K increase in EF, the fact that I continued to fund my retirement at 14% and that I haven't paid a dime of interest on a credit card all year!! Yippy Skippy!! Looking forward to seeing some goals achieved in 2013: * EF reach 10K * Mortgage/LOC begin to decline steadily again after last school payment * Regain lost 20% in income in July ...and now for my favorite part (insert drum roll here)... the 2013 lists!!!! 2013 Resolutions / To Do List* Make and use only natural cleaning and personal hygiene items * Study homeopathy * Experience something new once a month * Sincerely compliment someone new each week Daily Goals* Think less, LOVE MORE * Invest in passionate pursuits * Accept what is * Live honestly * Anger and worry less, Smile and laugh more * Be grateful and remember LIFE IS GOOD ;D !

I didn't pay down as much as I would have liked this past year thanks to several visits from Murphy and major surgery but the amount of debt has gone down which I am thankful for. DH and I have a new plan in place for this year and can't wait to get started with his first paycheck on Wednesday. I am keeping my goals for 2013 simple this year. I think I put too much pressure on myself by setting too many unrealistic goals. I wish you all a happy, healthy and prosperous New Year and hope all your racing dreams come true.

UPDATE: Wudnit 1/3/13 $100721 (1/13/10 $172915 NEU46)
Well, I didn't make it, still not under the $100K which I was really hoping I would do by this month since this is my anniversary month. It is my 3rd anniversary!! UGH!!! Unfortunately, things have been slow since last summer. Praying that 2013 brings prosperity to everyone!!!!
Well, I will be off the 100K list come next month, sooner if things turn around this month!!! I keep hoping I can post another update, that generally doesn't happen, but SOMETIMES!!!!

The board really is quiet! The question of course is...is everyone working hard or hardly working? I was reading one of the other message boards and it was talking about some great and unusual ideas for saving money/environment etc. The two ideas I took away were to fill on of those dish scrubbers with the handle with dish soap and vinegar (I think - good thing I wrote it down!), and then use it to clean the shower with! The other idea was to freeze PB&J sandwiches (with the PB scraped on both sides of the bread to prevent sogginess) and then take them with you to wherever (work, play, etc) and have them thawed and ready! Just some cool ideas. Makes me feel better to be doing things that are interesting along with my crochet stuff. Feeling to need to get organized again...the question should be - where should I start? Clearing out the closets? Doing my filing? Selling off extra stuff I don't need/want? Ideas?

Haha Nidena! I've already gotten two boxes filled with stuff to sell, and a garbage bag filled with stuff to donate. One of the big problems is trying to find an antique book buyer for a set of books...they're the biggest problem right now. The rest, I can go through and feel no guilt about tossing stuff. Thankfully, while I may like my "stuff" around me, I'm not a hoarder type and will never need to be on one of those crazy hoarder/clean sweep type shows! ;D Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Not how I wanted to end the year, but not 1 Christmas present went on a credit card - all paid via our Gift Fund ;D Changed up some retirement stuff to hopefully help ourselves out with our taxes. As my hubby & I have a big disparagement in our incomes, we wind up usually owing a little bit each year (we save for it though). We decided it would be in our best interest to stop contributing to my Roth IRA (post tax dollars) and instead divert that money to his 401(k) (with pretax dollars). We also added an extra 1% because I feel like we're behind, even though amongst all our friends, we are probably the furthest ahead. We are hopefully that this helps us out with taxes & with our retirement plans. Working on paying down our AMEX, which isn't raced, and typically doesn't carry a balance, but we went a little overboard while on vacation with eating & drinking at REALLY nice places and then a known dental bill. I think we'll have it all squared away, I think, before then end of February. Hubby's "year end bonus" gets paid in February, and we are planning on paying off 1 debt that we race (Direct Loan SL) and 1 that we don't race (0% interest fixed payment until November from my husband's Lasik surgery), and using the rest to replace our couches. I've debated if paying those 2 bills off is really the right move, as they are the lowest interest rates, but I feel like having an extra $227 a month to throw at something else is a better use of the money & an emotional win. Oui - seems like a lot but I am hoping to make big progress this year on the first 2 debts on my list. Not really sure which to tackle first though, as they're the same interest rate. Any thoughts ladies?

dschmidt: I would pay off the lower balance one first as it will then free up more cash for applying to the other debts! Looks to me like you are doing pretty well!!
