dschmidt I would pay off the lower balance too. The other balance is 3x that one, so I think you'll feel like you are accomplishing more if you knock the little one out first, then it should go almost twice as fast to pay of the other one with the extra money you throw at your debt snowball.

mourningcloak (Race 2): 1/9/13 $173,604 (1/10/11 $165,413 NPT5) Not too happy with the direction we are going. At the same time, we are making decent progress on our non-racing debts, but it seems to be at the expense of our racing debts! I need to sit down and work out these numbers now that I know how much I'm bringing home after the change in insurance and deductions for this year. And I think I need a heart to heart with hubby. If he can't get a job, maybe I should look at a second one, until we're where I feel comfortable financially to have the children we want!

Overall I am very happy with the progress I have made over the last few years. My finish line is so close, but yet so far, it is a little frustrating. But at least my legs will look good when I cross that finish line. Goals for 2013: -$1,000 Emergency fund -$2,500 IRA -Finish my race

How long is this board going to be live, I've set up my beta account, but - are we still coming back here? Or is the data we've entered going to be transferred? How - when are we transferring?

Wow Lark, good thing you mentioned this new account or I would have missed it. I hadn't even noticed I had a message! UGH!!! Hope the transition goes smoothly. I'd be lost without this board. It helps me to stay committed to paying down my debt.

Well, I tried to register with my username and password that I use here, and it wouldn't work...not sure what I did wrong. I did, however, get the same display name with a new user name.

Hi everyone! Hope that the New Year is treating you all well! Just wanted to give everyone a warning before I post my numbers later in the week that my total is going to be going up! I have received a few great balance transfer offers for the two credit cards that I am racing and I am in the process of transfering some non racing debt to those two cards. One has already gone through and the other I am still waiting on. Although this race will take me a little longer now my second one should go much more smoothly. My other two open credit cards right now have much higher interest rates so I am going to take all the opportunities I get to transfer money over to my racing cards. My Disney card actually only has a balance trasnfer rate of 13.24% normally compared to the 19.99% and 20.99% on my two non racing cards so I may look to keep paying off that Disney balance and keep moving over money! Going to wait to Friday to update just incase that other transfer goes through but just wanted to warn everyone so there isn't some shock when my numbers increase!

*sigh*
I have not been having fun the last couple of weeks. I have to fix my front steps, now. And since I share my steps with another row house, it has to be agreed with my neighbor. Whose husband has been out of a job since October, and it was only a summer job to begin with, he's got no prospects right now. Meanwhile, they just had to break into a CD to replace their heater, ($4K+), so they're brokebroke.
... and so are our front steps...
I'm going to have to front the bill, we may or we may not get a nasty snowstorm, but the steps won't last another winter... and I really wanted that $2,500 for my very own... y'know?
At least I have it, now. Wow. But I seriously thought I was finished with home repairs. For a few months, at least...? Why me? *sigh*

Do we still need to use the commands for tables as we have in the past so we'll have the nice columns? When you go to enter a post, at the bottom of the entry field are two tabs for "Visual" and "BBCode". The Visual is for the new and improved graphics. the BBCode shows you all the html. So what you can do is something like this (I'm in Visual) here's row 1, Column 1
| Row 1 column 2 | Row 2 column 1 | and the end of it.
|
And I didn't have to do any of the html stuff to get it. But I can switch over to the BBCode and it shows me the table as I just created it with all the html headers, etc.

Update Crisde2bdebtfree—1/19/2013—16,315.57--8/31/2010 16,834 NEU286) Long Island NY
Ok—so my balances are all up due to Christmas and a few unavoidable expenses that I had no choice but to put on credit cards. I am almost where I was when I started—but that is alright I have a job now and am ready to get back to seriously making debt repayment a top priority this New Year. I have worked out a budget and the plan is to stick to it.
The Storm is over, but even though the sun is shining and the birds are singing, There is much damage to be repaired.
My Goals Emergency Account—1000.00 Pay off 4,000.00 this year.
I have many more goals that I would like to add but I think I will start out with just the first two for now and hopefully I will be able to add more as the year goes on.

Hi Everyone! So making some progress, I also moved some of the debt over to 0% with a new card offer. I'm always on the fence about that, because it's just opening up new credit, but given that I know my monthly contribution to the cards and how long it will take me to pay off the card at 14%, I just thought it made the most sense.

Update: I'm not sure if I missed the cutoff for my update. Life has been sooooo busy lately that I haven't had time to sit down and calculate this stuff. I missed my annual goal by about $500 last year. I am setting my sites high this year and I am going to try to get below 20K.

I transfered $500 from a Non-Racing debt with a 20.99% interest rate to my Disney card. With my payments for the month my balance only went up $390.15. I am going to keep paying the same amount every month - it will probably just add about 3 or 4 months of payments onto my current payment schedule. That means I will have this card at $0 about 4 months before the 0% interest period runs out. At that time I am going to keep my eye out for new deals or maybe transfer without it because my BT rate on the card is only 13.24%. I have a feeling I am going to keep transfering and paying this card then transfering and paying because it has the lowest interest rate of all my cards by far so I would see more progress by doing this. I also transfered an additional $600 from that same Non-Racing debt over to my Discover card which made that balance go up. This is also at a 0% promotional rate until March of 2014. My dilemma here is the Discover Card will go up to 21.24% in March and the Disney card only 13.24%. I currently have $180 to work with and the Discover minimum payment is $60 while the Disney minimum is only $25. Am I better off making $100 payments to Disney as I have been and $80 to Discover and then transfering the Discover balance to Disney once it is paid in full or do I make the smaller payment to Disney and try to greatly reduce the Discover before the promo period is over? Advice please!

grr.....apparently, hitting backspace while editing a table makes my browser think I want to go back a page. I think I'm just going to plunk this table down here and make the post, then come back and edit. chiver78 1/22/13 $19081.39 (8/20/08 $45152.97 NE266)creditor | 8/20/2008 | 1/22/2013 | PAID OFF!

now that that's all set, I can talk so I'm still hovering around the $19k mark, which is good and bad. I have had to pull $ out of savings to cover a couple unplanned emergencies, which is bad. I didn't have to put either of them on a CC, which is great! my bonus should be larger than past years, due to a change in the bonus structure. I will bump my savings back up to $10k and throw the rest of it at the Chase balance. I will probably also move that Chase balance somewhere else, as the 0% interest rate is going to reset this spring. this balance was the cash advance I'd taken around this time last year, to fund the quickie renovation to my townhouse....that I'm sadly still living in. with the unplanned emergencies, I don't have the cash in savings to pay that off before it resets, which had been my plan. lesson learned, I guess. as far as the other balances, the 1st National and Elan lines are both sub-2% rates for the life of the balance. the BofA, AmEx, and Discover cards with balances are the ones I rotate through for daily use and paying bills online. I expect to get all three of those back to paid in full each month within the next month or so.

kristin: I would pay the minimum on the Disney and throw everything that you can at Discover. With Discover being or going to be your highest rate and highest balance, you'd pay the most interest there. So, it's better to get it lower as soon/fast as you can. On a sidenote, at any time you can add non-racing items to the list that you're racing. Plus, by adding them to the list, if you want/need input, we can see what you're working with and offer up "full picture" suggestions.

UPDATE: nidena: 1/23/2013 $168198.49 (8/22/2007 $223361.2 N453,503,NE648,NPT25) Looks like I am able to update while here. I've incurred some credit card debt as part of this deployment but it will be paid off shortly after I return to the States so I haven't added it back in. The total above is just my mortgage and H.E.L. I also bought a truck right before I left but won't be adding what I owe on that until I return from this deployment and drop some change on the balance. I've transferred almost $2000 into the Savings Deposit Program and have budgeted out $1000-$2000 to be deposited each paycheck. The money from that will account will then be used to max out my Roth for 2013 and pay down the balance on the truck...come June. So, until then, I'm tracking just the house stuff. It's pretty boring here but I try to keep entertained by making new friends at the dining facility and various organizations around here. Doing well at that. I do miss shopping/browsing at the mall but I know this trip is really good for me, financially. Saving up quite a bit. Have a great week.

Nidena, did you max your 2012 Roth? If not, you could still put your contributions toward 2012 until April 15, then start on a new $5500 for 2013. It would give you the most contributions to put aside.
