Oh, *sigh*, it's Thanksgiving weekend, and I'm about to get into my little car and drive up to Massachusetts. It's been hectic and messy and I'm looking forward to seeing my sisters and brother and my daughter and my nieces and nephews, and I'm also wishing I could just sleep four days. So - I called my daughter last Sunday, it's her birthday, I've stayed out of her way, only send her emails and text messages and she's replied, but been very perfunctory for a couple of months - well, she tells me she got laid off in September, and hasn't been able to find a job since. So, she had enough to pay her rent and buy minimal groceries (most of it ramen noodles) in October and November, but the little bit she's got left, she's going to make it through the end of the month and then - she's not sure what she's going to do! So, because she's in school, she canNOT leave in December, but after that - she's probably going to have to move back home. I'm not unhappy about that, SHE is, but the problem is she has to pay December rent - so... isn't it nice Mom has an emergency fund? Which, now, Mom won't. But I had it. And I can help her. At least for a month. If she doesn't find something, she's going to have to pack and then we'll have to move her out by the end of December. I've also got a sprained tendon in my ankle, been this way for a couple of weeks, really very painful, no, I'm really NOT looking forward to my drive up to Massachusetts. Grouch, grouch, grouch, kvetch, kvetch, kvetch. I shouldn't be so grouchy. I can help my daughter. And I have four days off. And I can still walk, a bit wobbly, but I'm still mobile. My car is in good repair. I get to see my family. And I look cute. Really, that last part is the most important, right? I mean, if you ain't cute, whatcha got? Everybody have a wonderful weekend! And - wow, guess it's almost December, too, isn't it? YEEK! Where did the year go?

Babydrago: 11/24/12 $24,471 (11/24/12, $24,471, NE96)
Hi everyone~ hope you all had a great thanksgiving. I'm grateful that I found these boards again after using the WIRR "system" of reporting and motivation about 6 years ago back on the MSN boards!
My story - I spent the past several years freelancing while my son was growing up (he's 4 now) so that I could be home more with him. It was great but financially I wasn't that realistic. I kept spending at my previous income, essentially, and I also got not the greatest accounting advice and ending up with some debt stemming from that. Anyway, I may not know much about sticking to a budget (working on that!) but one thing I do know how to do is get out of debt using you guys as my support! I did it 6 years ago and here we go again!
My goal is to have this paid off by end of summer 2013. I have a steady income now (back at work full time) and I already have funds allocated against the debt so I hope it will move fairly quickly.
I'm also going to cash only now ... I turned off the Amex and I haven't had a copy of the other cards for ages. Trying to remind myself that it feels great to whip out dolla bills at the cash register ... it's so old school. Right? haha.
Anyway here it is:
CC1 $4,136.00 @ 0% CC2 $5,455.63 @14.24%- CC3 $194.89 @21.25% Other $14,684.53 @4% TOTAL > $24, 471.13
Glad to be back here with you all, doing this together!!!
Also, if anyone can send me the excel spreadsheet for the table format, my email is babydragone at hot mail (don't forget the last e, not the same as my username).
Thanks!

I am very grateful for all of you. Without you, I would not have paid off over $20,000 in debt in 2 years. I love writing down my numbers every month. I love to feel how my chest expands when I realize I am slowly paying down my debts. It almost feels as good as a glass of really good champagne. I am so happy. My DH and I just returned for a 1 week trip to Sedona, AZ and the Grand Canyon. Don't take your kids to Disney, take them to the Grand Canyon instead! It was absolutely beautiful. Our total trip was less than $2,000. Which was paid all in cash!!!! My DH and I purchased a time share 10 years ago. We have traded, but did not really use everything to its fullest capacity. With our time share we get a buy 1 get 1 free airfare in the domestic US. Why oh Why did not use this before? We were able to get a 1 bedroom condo, full kitchen for less than $200. We used coupons for our rental car (Thrifty Rental Car). I went to the grocery store and signed up for one of their loyalty cards. Saved tons of money on food. We packed lunches every day. Actually went to real happy hour (30% of food and drinks) a few days before we headed back to our condo to eat dinner. If any of you are looking for a nice vacation that does not cost a lot of money, Arizona is the place to go. Now if you will excuse me, I am going to go do a little dance to celebrate paying off $20,000 (and hopefully burn off the several extra helpings of mashed potatoes).

UPDATE: Delphinus317 11/27/12 $128,421.55 (2/9/12 $132,416.25)Creditor | Starting Balance | 11/27/12 | Total Paid | Current Balance | Mortgage | $120,883.09 | ($178.69) | ($1,579.18) | $119,303.91 | Auto Loan | $11,533.16 | ($244.66) | ($2,415.52) | $9,117.64 | Total | $132,416.25 | ($423.35) | ($3,994.70) | $128,421.55 |
Total percentage paid: 3.1% I was feeling a little down about my current financial situation, so I thought posting an update would cheer me up. I'm not tracking my savings anymore because it doesn't exist. My monthly expenses have increased almost 10% due to health insurance changes (added DS to my policy because his father didn't pay his bill, thus his coverage lapsed) & I will have legal costs that have yet to be determined. Since I have no access to credit, I took out a loan from my 401k (I know, I know ) so that I can cover the upcoming attorney fees, whatever they may be & any other unexpected costs (Not Christmas shopping, I'm pretty much done with that). I feel like I'm moving backwards at the moment, but it'll get better. I have a court hearing with domestics (not related to above mentioned legal fees) in January to have my child support case reviewed (hopefully increased because of the new health insurance premium), plus it hasn't been reviewed since 1997. If it ain't broke, don't fix it I always say... Well, it's broke now. I'm broke, so we'll see what happens with that.

UPDATE!!!
Finally.... Things are returning back to normal. I have been living in my mother's basement with my DH, 2 DD's and a dog since April. And finally last week we moved into our new home. Privacy, sanity and organization can once again enter my life. We got a fabulous interest rate on the mortgage so we are estatic!! And I am soooo excited that last week I paid off another CC as well as a non-racing $1500 debt. I am less than $800 of reaching my goal of being below 25K by the end of the year. With one month to go I am pretty sure I will make it.
Here's the totals:
11/27/2012 SL 7,790.23 CC1 0 CC2 11,735.75 CC3 6,246.92 CC4 0.00 25,772.90
CLS 328: 11/27/2012 $25,772.90 (12/21/08 $42,189.11) NE 397

Is anyone else feeling like they took a huge slide backwards because of the Hurricane/Nor' Easter? With all of the transfers, moving money around, extra payments and my unexpected retroactive raise I was finally feeling like I could breathe and then those 2 weeks happened. I only worked 4 days in 2 weeks as compared to my normal 6 days a week so needless to say it was 2 weeks without paychecks from my Saturday job and 2 weeks of MUCH lower paychecks from my regular job which forced me to have to charge a few things I would normally pay cash for. I do have an EF that I like to keep at $1,650 but because of some unexpected expensive car repairs it is now down to only $1,275 which is my cut off point for dipping into it because I need to make sure I have 1 months rent and utility bills should something unexpected happen. So realizing that was at the limit I was willing to spend out came the credit card. The gas situation was a killer and since I travel at minimum 100 miles a day and had no idea when power would be restored to my job and when I would be called in I was forced to wait on those lines and make sure that I had plenty of gas. The best part was that my bank was down so no withdrawing cash plus some stations were credit only to make the lines go faster. Then once the power was restored to my apartment I had to throw out basically my entire refridgerator because it had been off for 5 days. So a food shopping trip for just the normal necessities was $200. I kept my credit card usage to only 1 card but that balance went up around $450 total. and I was forced to reduce the payment to the minimum on my Disney card that I was hoping to have paid off by June so that might add a month onto the payoff on that card. So frustrating! I have to be thankful though that I still have my home and my family was safe even though aggrevated. I am hoping that in 2-3 months I can catch up from the storm troubles but since it is my off season it might take a little longer. Just needed a little venting session ... Keeping everyone that was seriously effected in my prayers!

Somehow or other, it's December 1st. Where on earth did this year go?! Our prep for Christmas is well under way, my work is chugging along, and DH has picked up a part time job (which is good for both our bottom line and his sanity). I paid off the first car this past week... it will make things very tight for the rest of the year, and for Christmas unfortunately, but... the (first) car loan is now no longer a concern! Phew! Frankly, just having that one loan gone is Christmas present enough for me. November was a ridiculously expensive month for us unfortunately. We hosted Thanksgiving for the first time ever, and also hosted a foreign guest for a few days - we had all sorts of random expenses that we usually don't have. I did what I could to keep things in check (to the extent possible), but I feel like we've been cutting the finances so close lately, that even the slightest blip really throws our budget off. Thankfully, December seems pretty calm at this point, and I've already got some shopping done. I had intended to set aside some targeted savings for Christmas, but that never really happened. It WILL happen come January 1st though... this is the last year we're going to scramble in November and December. (At least, that's the goal anyway...) Anyway, happy holidays all around... :-) Account | Starting Balance | Interest Rate | 10/26/2012 | 12/1/2012 | Overall Decrease | % Paid Off | | Mortgage | $107,000.00 | 3.00% | $105,000.00 | $104,569.22 | $2,430.78 | 2.27% | | Car Loan 1 | $16,649.24 | 1.90% | $3,898.29 | $0.00 | $16,649.24 | 100.00% | | Car Loan 2 | $19,041.87 | 1.90% | $18,706.75 | $18,099.76 | $942.11 | 4.95% | | Def. Update December 4, 2012
Munjoyhill 12/4/12 $139,475.79 ($155,340.30 6/18/09)
HELOC $19,135.84 Mortgage $120,339.95
I'm frustrated with our government . . . such a love/hate relationship. My house is still under contract (that has the HELOC), but it's a loan called Rural Direct which is backed the the US Dept of Agriculture. And there's no funding for the program until Obama signs the USDA budget, which he should have done around Oct 1, and here it is Dec 4 and he still hasn't signed it. Why, who knows. When will he sign it, who knows, I could get a call today that we'll close in a week, or I may not be able to close until next year! In the meantime I'm in limbo, can't close on my house. Did I mention I'm frustrated?
My financial advisor has a few investments he wants me to take advantage of, I was going to take the profit from my house and put it in these investments, which I understand are available through the end of the year. Now he is suggesting I take money out of my HELOC (about $30,000 available dollars) and put it into these investments. The monthly dividends he would pay to me that would go toward the increased payment on my HELOC . . . this is a temporary, short term situation until I close on the house. What to do, what to do!

Munjoyhill!! Sounds incredibly frustrating!!! I hope something gives and that Obama signs what he needs to so that you can move on!! I don't envy you your decisions. My decisions have been fairly easy in comparison, no DH pay, no extra on anything. UGH!!! Hope your New Year turns things around for the positive!!!!

I haven't updated all my totals but wanted to get an update in before I got the boot. ;D My total is lower which is good but not as much as I would like. It's been a crazy month. My BIL lost his battle with cancer last month and we had some extra expenses involved with traveling and eating out. DH and I are okay with that since he was able to be with his brother when he passed. The great news is I have all my Christmas shopping done and I paid cash for 90% of it After the holidays are over we are really going to apply ourselves to the new budget we worked out in October but haven't got a chance to start yet with everything that was going on. We are looking at a much brighter 2013. Happy racing everyone!!!

Update Crisde2bdebtfree—12/5/2012—15,073.16--8/31/2010 16,834 NEU286) Long Island NY
Tis the season again—Shopping and Cards and Bills--OH MY! This is probably going to be my last update this year. I don’t believe this year is almost over. As bad as it started out I must admit it was not that bad. I graduated Business School. I now have a diploma in Medical Office Administration and I am a certified Medical Biller and Coder. Next week is my last week of unemployment and I was getting a bit nervous as to how I was going to pay my bills but I GOT A JOB—I start this Monday. It is not paying as much as I was making before layoff but it is more than unemployment. And get this—it has nothing to do in the medical field. I will be a Property Tax Examiner. I will take what I can get right now until something better comes along. I am just happy to be going back to work. Maybe now I can make some progress paying down my debts. Wishing you all a Very Happy Holiday Season and Financially Healthy New Year.

Rejoining the active race after an insane past couple of weeks/months... Things I've learned? Interest is not a friend and can pile up easily. Minimum payments do not stop it. It just keeps building... My school has been closed since Hurricane Sandy so I have a few worries paying those back and when the term will expire... or if it will be adjusted. Once they reopen, I'll be getting some paperwork to officially file for deferment from my student loan from my undergrad period. Meal budgeting is a major point for me at the moment. I've discovered I've a grain, gluten and lactose intolerance so many of my cheap staple foods are out. On the upside, after cutting those things from my diet, I've felt a LOT less ill and cost of painkillers+ are greatly reduced. On the other hand - meat is expensive... Keep up the good work everyone!

UPDATE: 12/09/12 $21,270.31 (11/24/12, $24,471, NE96) CC1 $1936.08 @ 0% CC2 $4,954.81 @14.24%- CC3 $194.89 @21.25% Other $14,184.53 @4% NEW TOTAL > $21,270.31 A few things I've started doing that are helping me ... - Paying cash for everything - Really looking at my bills. This month I received a $200+ credit for an error I found in billing for my dog's overnight stays at her kennel ... I hadn't been looking at the bills basically EVER ... they were just charging my card. I also enjoyed the wonders of Target this week, we don't have a Target where I live but I was in the suburbs and picked up lots of holiday gifts for probably 1/3 of what I would pay here in the city. It's definitely tempting in there to buy more than you need but I reined myself in when it came to shopping for me. PS> that Neiman Marcus designer collection is WAY overpriced!! All the best to you guys!!

Hi - I am waiting on a few things before getting the credit card updates. We're trying really hard to get a renter and are scanning and sending documents at the moment. Since that will be a big deal with money coming in, I'm working straight away on that one. The property we're renting out is 3 hours away from us, so each step is hard (on Monday I was there interviewing PM companies.) Also it is a very bad month to be finding a renter, but we weren't ready until now. It's been almost 9 months of working really hard to buy/rehab/list the apartment that is now ready. I'm SO glad it's ready.
So our finances are downward.

I really have no words for this update … It is my first increase since April of 2011 and it is absolutely killing me to have to post these numbers. Hopefully by spring I can get this Discover card back down to the starting point. Winter is going to be difficult but I am going to do my best and try not to have to swipe that card at all … Once Discover is back on track I need to work on putting money back into my EF. Pretty bummed out right now …
