CAPTAINS: Nov 1st will be my last update til next summer. I hope to be able to post in between but I don't anticipate it being a priority while I'm gone. As soon as the mortgage payment clears, I'll be making that update.

I messed up some differences in my table I just posted; however, the final line at the bottom should be right.

wudnit: I'm headed to U-pick-a-stan for six months and leaving this month.
UPDATE: nidena: 11/02/2012 $168858.86 (8/22/2007 $223361.2 N453,503,NE648,NPT25)
It's up from the HARP refi still but, I know, will go down in time. My monthly payments are $200/mo lower and that's helping me to contribute a whole buttload to my Roth for this year--only $1300 more to go for 2012. While deployed, I'll be taking big advantage of the Savings Deposit Program and plan to use that to fund my 2013 Roth. The SDP can be used only while deployed and must be transferred no later than two months after my return. It has a ceiling of $10k and I'll be doing my darndest to reach it. Shouldn't be too difficult since I'll be tax-free and receiving a few other allowances over there. Have a great winter and spring!

Update: 11/5/12 $139,671.58 ($155,340.30 6/18/09)
HELOC $19,153.96 Mortgage $120,517.62
My numbers are up about $3,700 in my HELOC because of work I had to have done to my house to sell it. I had the cash to pay for the work (new septic tank and painting the trim), but decided to use the HELOC, figuring it would be wiped out once the house was sold. So I took a minor step backwards using the HELOC to leave my savings alone.
My house is still under contract, but I found last week that we were not able to close by October 31. I have granted an extension to the buyer until November 20, but at the same time it's back on the active market. The process has been a nightmare, the young guy who is buying my house has a type of federally backed loan that requires him to jump through so many hoops, and they let him know early last week that he needs to get a few more estimates on work they want him to do on my house (minor stuff), and his estimates are suppose to be done and submitted no later than November 6 (tomorrow), then we can close. Or so we hope . . . which is why my real estate agent thought it best to put it back on the active market.
I am still hoping that this week I will get a closing date. I am frustrated by this process, I was told that the loan officer who this young guy is dealing with never closes on time, always has to have an extension. So between all the inspections and this loan officer dragging her feet I'm ready to scream! But I remain optimistic . . .

Munjoy
How frustrating! I hope the sale goes through relatively quickly, either with this person or somebody else.
Are you planning to pay off or down your current mortgage with the proceeds from the house?
Good luck!

So while I thought we hit the top before, hopefully we really truly on back on the down side!! We have my birthday and Christmas, then taxes coming up, plus possibly a work bonus, so between all of that we should be able to focus on getting rid of some stuff.

I've been running the numbers and I should be able to max my SDP in about three months. It costs me only $1800 for all my bills each month (while I'm gone which means I'm not budgeting for food or gasoline). That's about 1/3 of my monthly income. Since I plan on transferring from my SDP to my Roth when I get back, I won't need to budget for that in the three remaining months that I'm gone. I'm thinking my best bet is to just save as much money as I can and then divvy it out when I get back to the Roth, the fully funded emergency fund, and then paying off a chunk of the truck I just bought. ($11,500 @ 3.99% for 60 mo w/no early payoff fee and payments of $213/mo). I might be adding the balance of the truck to my race when I get back and settled but we'll see how everything plays out. There's quite the potential for me to save about $20,000 on this trip.

I will be going backwards for a few months, I have a bunch of expenses like bdays and xmas that I will be adding on to the 0% card for the time being. It hurts to see the balance going up but I don't want to use savings when I have a 0% card at my disposal!
