Nothing on state job yet. This is the 5th week since the interview and they told me it would be at least 3 weeks before they started going through the candidates. I went on the state job website and my application still says 'in process' so I guess that's a good sign. I hope I hear something soon though.

Hi rpprt!! It certainly has been a long time. No offense but I'm sick & tired of being here. That's why I have been so rabbit-like of late. I'd like to get this done before I send my eldest off to college 3 years hence. Of course, that will probably land me right back here again I am breaking through my 25k barrier by next update! All the best!

Sorry to have gone dormant lately! My total has crept up by about $450 since we're still working on the home expansion/remodel, and I bought my first-even dishwasher. I'm excited beyond belief. Haven't used it yet since the cabinets still need to be installed in the new kitchen, but I can fondle the box and dream. We took our big vacation of the year over DS1's spring break--drove to FL, stayed w/the ILs, did a day at Disney (they paid), lots of swimming and soaking up of sun. Paid for it in cash, but it sucked up my April snowball and part of May's. However, today is payday, so I just need to sit down, calculate all upcoming expenses for the next two weeks, and then pay nice, big chunks toward the CCs. I've missed all of you and hope you've been doing well! I'll try to pull together an update later this week. I'm working on a freelance project that will keep me busy for the next 2.5 weeks, but it will yield several hundred dollars that will either go toward a CC or be held aside to pay for something house-related in cash to keep said item off the CC.

LOL, lark! DH is worried that I'll leave him for the dishwasher and new cabinets. I probably won't, but might as well let him wonder.... Ha!

ROFL!!! ;D I completely understand! When we bought this house, the whole kitchen needed to be gutted and rebuilt. I didn't have a kitchen for 5 months. When the sink and water was hooked up, I stood at the sink for hours hugging the faucet and turning the water on and off. DH though I had lost my mind. LOL! But, after 5 month of cooking on the grill and having to wash dishes in the bathtub, I was so in love I couldn't help myself.

OK, so I pieced my update together. The funny thing is that, after buying a dishwasher and paying for some final roofing work on my BOA card, my overall total is down $20 from the last time I posted. I'm surprised it didn't go up, so I'll take the small bit of progress! We still have more stuff to buy, which means my racing debt will be bouncing up and down like a yo-yo for awhile, but I keep making payments as hefty as I can. DEBT | START | May 18, 2011 | SL | 755.58 | 0 | CC1 (BOA) | 7869.49 | 3407.46 | CC2 (Citi) | 9877.05 | 15866.00 | CC3 (Cap 1) | 0.00 | 0 | TOTAL | $18502.12 | 19273.46 |
thriftymom[2] 5/18/2011 $19273.46 (3/25/10, $18502.12 NEU 160) This weekend the rest of our new kitchen cabinets are coming (delivery truck wasn't big enough for them all!), and then we'll be able to rock and roll on finishing the kitchen. There's plenty more to do after that, but I can't think about it all at once or my head hurts.

raven64-do you have a giant bookstore near you? They give you gas points when you buy certain items. That might help your gas problem. HTH.

hey, do we have the old "welcome" page saved anywhere? I just went looking, and can't find it. I just introduced a friend of mine to this board, and he may start posting and racing soon. I was hoping to be able to give him the whole racers thing that I read way back when. thanks in advance if anyone has/can find it.

I know this, and I am sure all of you do to, that the more frequent my updates, the better I am with managing my money. I am trying to get back into the habit of posting once a week (regardless of how hard it is to find the time). I just have to keep telling myself, my (financial) future is worth it. If I do not take the time to invest in myself, then I will never be able to get out from under this financial burden. I have made some progress in the last week. I just received my statement from CC#3, and noticed that my $200 payments each month are now starting to attack the principle instead of all going to interest. I also made a $400 payment to CC#2, but the payment has not shown up on the online statement yet. I hope all of you enjoy your Saturday morning.

Why do I do this--I finally saved 1500.00 in EF --I'm very happy with progress but I don't want to use it because i like seeing balance getting bigger--So Today I charged my vet visit because I didn't want to use EF. I will try to pay off visit befote next update. I'm trying to do the right thing. Why is it so hard for me to break the cc habit.

crisde2bdebtfree Think of your net worth instead of just your savings vs debt. If your savings is going up, but so is your debt it's likely that your net worth is going down. Very few debts have lower interests rates than the rates you can earn on your savings. And don't beat yourself up about using a credit card - the card isn't the problem. Many people use cards and pay them off immediately. It's the budgeting that doesn't allow you to pay if off right away that is the issue. If the vet was an emergency visit, use that EF! That's what it's there for - to prevent you from having to pay all that interest! Whether or not it was an emergency, start working a way into your budget to save money for the next visit. If you like seeing that balance go up, you should like seeing your account balance go up while you save little bits for the visit ;D We all do this at some time or another I'm just finally getting over my silly budgeting mistakes from this winter. Sometimes we just need to remind ourselves where the finish line is and the best way for us to get there!

I can't believe people are REALLY this taken in... but they're "surprised" the Rapture did not occur!! I'm reading these things, and I am just - I am flabbergasted at some people's gullibility: news.yahoo.com/s/yblog_thelookout/20110523/ts_yblog_thelookout/doomsday-prophet-followers-flabbergasted-world-didnt-end Keith Bauer, a 38-year-old tractor trailer driver, took a road trip with his family to see the Grand Canyon before the world ended. "With maxed-out credit cards and a growing mountain of bills, he said, the rapture would have been a relief," the paper writes. Robert Fitzpatrick, who spent $140,000 of his life savings to advertise the rapture in New York, said he was dumbfounded when life went on as usual Saturday. "I do not understand why ...," he told Reuters while awaiting the event in Times Square. "I do not understand why nothing has happened."
