debtfreeredux: nice update! I'm a believer in paying off a bill if you can, even if it doesn't have the highest rate. There is something with the idea of having one less bill to worry about that is a 'win' to me!

I'm praying, jdnstl. Great update. You are getting closer and closer to 5k. Also, by next month you'll have paid off 35,000. That's huge. I hope all goes well for you at your job. It can be difficult to transition from one style to another. If it's not the place for you, keep looking.... Something will turn up.

Hi Everyone! Well we are going to be turtling for awhile. We are making some much needed repairs to our home this summer. Last month we went on vacation, paid our annual HOA dues, and had more vet bills that used up most of our snowball. We should be back on track soon though. I hope everyone is having a great summer!

Update: 7/3/13 $10,108.00 (7/20/07 $33,441.00 N3848) Greeting WIRR, Thanks for all the shouts out, they always make my day. Not under $10,000 yet, life keeps happing. Ha! Ha! But, we will get there! Continuing with the house thing got another 30 plus days to continue. I am hoping this is the last time I go to court to show pictures. You would not believe me if I told you some of the things that has happen while trying to repair this home. Anyway, the bills are coming in from the repairs that we charged on our cards, but I am not racing these amounts because once the house is repaired we will make a loan to pay back the charges that we used. Just did not expect the house would not be completed before they would all appear, just a little thing that my husband does not understand, it seems. You know that talk, walk thing, ok. But, you know, I don’t want to fight about this anymore, I just want it done. All is well other than that, I must confess I had not been taken care of myself, but I assure you, I have taken myself to my doctor and got my meds and I am doing much better. Well I believe that is all for now, I am so sure I am leaving out something. Keep your head up and keep beating down debt.

Going to try to pick up the pace on my race. DW does not have a car loan or CC debt, but the student loans , so the sooner I can get this to zero, the better. Keep up the good work.

I hope everyone had a safe 4th of July and are enjoying this long weekend! Everyone has been working so hard to get down debt! I don't pop on here much, but when I do, I am constantly reminded how encouraging it is to see other women (& men!) fighting the debt battle. I know there were some questions after my last post. I am only racing a small chunk of my debt. After dental school, I joined WIR and was racing ALL of my debt (at the time, just over $400k... now at $356k). I was way too overwhelmed with the numbers and very discouraged that they weren't going anywhere. When we moved to Texas last year, I decided to start over with what was more "manageable" and came up with this list. The goal was to have this debt wiped clean by the time DH graduates from his residency and we move back to California. Texas has been a good financial move for us... I am definitely making more money than I was in California and therefore able to throw a lot more money at loans. At the moment, we are maximizing my IRA contributions so debt paydown will be a little slower than it was the past few months, but as soon as the IRA is maxed out for the year, I'll be back on track to get rid of the last 2 SL's on this list! 2 more years of residency and I think I can still do it! Have a great weekend everyone!

Red Ruby $78,482.33 (1/21/2009 $163,872.74) S561 GOAL to be @ 75K by August 31, 2013 Although some of the smaller bills went up. The bigs ones are making up for it. I have 11 payments left on my Suburban and DH is wanting to trade because it has over 100K miles. I am refusing. It is in great shape and yes I am having to replace a few things. I don't want a payment anymore. At least until I get my consumer debt gone.

I'm going to keep the wheels for a while and save up a down-payment just in case we need to get something sooner. It would be fun to keep making the payment to an account and use that for repairs/down payment... I wonder how that would play out? Anyway, great short term goal, and I'm cheering you on... Rah... Rah... Rah... Great update, Carolina Cat. Are you doing alright? Another fantastic update, trojen! Keep up the power paydowns! Do you have a goal to finish your race? You are making such steady, quick progress, I wondered if you'd looked at that yet . ffflex, great to see you, and great update! How's life treating ya? deepintx, Great update! Keep up the good work. Repairs can be so costly, so wishing you the best on keeping your expenses down. So whatcha workin' on? Forward, Boo!!! Did I scare you? Happy July to everyone. We have had so much rain, I've had a few tomatoes rot before getting ripe, but most are still dangling at that light green they get just before they start to color up, sigh .

here is my update! nasagreen 7/11/13 $80,878.75 (7/21/07 $144,371.69) - I'm almost to my 6 year anniversary! Hard to believe. And I'm almost to the halfway point. Eeek! I really wish I had reached halfway earlier, but sometimes you have to live life!!!! Don't be hard on yourselves if your "rolling stone" is gathering some moss. It will speed up as you go down the hill! This is a big update, we've paid off $3,317.71 since my last update on 5/30/13. Sorry that my updates are so irregular. Summer is why my husband's extra money comes in so I have put 2k in savings and 1k on his credit card. It also has the highest interest rate and the highest balance out of the three we have balances on. So that is nice to get some breathing room. I'm trying to balance saving for the new baby and paying down some bills. Hey everyone! Sorry that I've been so lost in all the updates, it totally has been my fault. With that being said, I'd like to find a couple more people to help with updates, I'm going to be out of commission for a while with the second baby (I'm 21 weeks now). So if you'd like to be a captain, please, please, please let me know! We need people who can remember to do updates religiously muffyinthered - thanks! Yes paying off the $735.68 a month truck will be a lifesaver! It is literally why CCs have taken a back seat for so long. I wish we could have sold the truck, but we are finally at the end of that road. Sometimes you just have to stick it out. forwardwego - the nauseau has finally subsided, just a few weeks into the 2nd trimester. i'm trying to catch up on everything, sell stuff we don't need on craigslist/online yard sale, and work to organize the baby's room. it is overwhelming but in a good way. at least i'm not puking all the time bramoney - oh, the things that husbands don't understand! it is why the world is so inefficient! all the systems are "theirs"!!!!

Hola WIRRs We are less than $300K away from the $5million..whoohoo!!
Thanks Nasa! for the updates, shouts, and smilies . So glad you and your on-the-way baby girl are feeling better. How is little miss Millie? Is she 2 yet? I could remember to do updates but my computer skills , plus my computer is perty doggone old , so I'm probably not a good candidate, but ...
CraftySarah, I miss you & think you would be a really good captain for us, please? How are your new job and location going??
CarolinaKat How are you feeling? I hope your headaches are under control, and the job search is bringing good results. Congrats on being under $7K
JDNSTL representing the south in the $5500 club...cool
RedRuby Congratulations on your paydown. Yea for being in the homestretch on your Suburban payoff. Good idea 3jsmom, to redirect the Suburban payments to a repair and/or down payment account.
Hey 3js, How about some fried green tomatoes? To celebrate another beautiful paydown!
deepintx good job paying down in spite of the maintenance expenses. How is your new pup doing?
Ffflex Nice update, wishing you well on accelerating the last of your race.
Bramoney Thanks for the encouragement, nice update. Hopefully that rental home will be ready PDQ and you can ditch the $10K level.
Trojen3 Nice paydown, and good job finding the approach that works for you. Finding balance is an acquired skill.
Sleep well WIRRs. I sure do miss those who have left and look forward to their return and future success "beating down the debt" ... thanks Bramoney
When I read these shouts of encouragement it makes me review to see if I could update a bit sooner or paydown a little bit more. Thank you all. BTW, 2013 half over...coule be a good time to tweak goals for the 2nd half of the year.

OK I love seeing shout outs to me so I think I should give them right back and stop being a slacker! Muffy, even though your update was ‘horrible’ at least it was a decrease. Hang in there! Nice new -0- you have there, DebtFreeRedux!! Awesome update! Jdnstl, nice update; keep up the good pay down. Hope the job gets better. Deepintx nice even pay down. Good job! It’s nice to see the EF going up too. Bramoney you are so close to being under $10K I just can’t wait to see that post. Keep on keeping on, the house repairs will be complete soon . Glad you went to the doctor, taking care of yourself should be a #1 priority. Ffflex, good update. Sounds like you have another race in the wings. Lord knows I do Trojen3 your pay down is impressive! I know this portion of your debt will be gone in no time. Carolinakat, look at you slipping under $7K…….awesome update! Redruby, nice update from you. I’m with you on the ‘no car payment’ comment & I’m driving a vehicle with almost 180,000 miles! Stick to your guns! 3jsmom, nice update. I understand about too much rain; DH has to do yard reconstruction due to heavy rains. Oh what fun! Hope your tomatoes come in soon. Delish! Nasagreen, nice update! Glad you are feeling better and getting things ready for the baby.

Hi Everyone! I am afraid I need to restart my race. Our home improvements grew substantially and now includes a kitchen remodel. What started out as needing to replace our living room flooring because our new puppy chewed a giant hole in the main walkway (it needed to be replaced anyway) started out talking about just replacing the flooring with hardwood floors. Then we talked about refinishing the concrete floors like we always wanted to do. Then we thought if we are going to do the floors we need to commit to whether we are going to gut the kitchen or refinish our 35 year old cabinets since we were wanting to change the layout a bit. Then I find out Ikea has their 20% off kitchen sale going on and we just decided to go for it. We also decided to update our appliances since one of our double ovens had died last year and with changing the layout it would eliminate the double ovens and just go with the oven/range combo. So we rented the dumpster and gutted the kitchen and removed the flooring on our first floor (except for our bedroom) and have been living in a construction zone for about 2 weeks now. We rented equipment to grind down the concrete and they needed more work than we expected and we are still working on the edging but hope to stain and seal the floors next weekend. Then we can start rebuilding our kitchen again and get things back to normal. We have had trips to the home improvement stores for tools and supplies and everything just seems to be adding up and it is very overwhelming. Not to mention all the eating out we have been doing without having a kitchen. We have been eating alot of sandwiches but we have been grabbing fast food here and there and it adds up. I know it will be our dream kitchen when it is done but right now we are like what were we thinking. Totally not a WIRR decision. I will try to get my numbers together and restart my race soon.

Muffyinthe Red 07/15/2013 $79,621.95 (9/9/08 $128,662.37 S373, SU395, PRO 77, 81, 86, 137) NC Paid off since joining $49,042.48 Percentage: 38.1% Paid off this month: $145.53 Medical Bills $1,142.84 -89.33 = $1,053.51 CU Savings - $1,144.03
Things were very bad this past month. And this next month will not be very good either because we have house, flood and car insurance due the end of July and the middle of Aug. We went to WI again for my husband's birthday. We didn't have to pay too much for hotel, a little over $200, so not too bad but I had to use a bunch of savings in order not to charge very much. So hopefully I will be able to have a good pay down come September.
Hope everyone is doing well and paying all your debts and making good progress.

Hi Everyone! I am still alive. Thank you to 3jsmom, forward and goalofzero for wondering. Below is the condensed version of my past 2 months.
So I have a physical and get all my army medical paperwork filled out ($150) and all the kitties medical paperwork sorted out ($200) and microchipped with the specific chip requested by the morons handling DH's paperwork ($175). DH cleared base due to an interim CO not knowing what the hell he is doing, before I turned in my medical paperwork (three days later was the earliest appt). As such, my medical file was flagged. DH spent a couple of days running around paperwork to get my med stuff rushed through, then he was given the all-clear to head up to AK.
As we got on the road with a fully packed car and 4 cats, headed for his mom's (on the way) He was notified that I was 'denied on a medical basis' and could not be approved to PCS outside the continental US due to my migraines. So we turned around and came back to NC. Since it was July 4, we went to his parents for the holiday since there was nothing to be done here anyway with everyone off. While I was there one of my little nieces shared a nasty virus with me. DH had a runny nose for 8 hours.
We got back and after much duress DH got the orders cancelled and is now back at the local base. I however have been very sick since I got home and only am starting to feel slightly better today. I am so sick of coughing (pun not intended). I still have to unpack my household.
I do have to re-start my job search, being as i was looking in AK and now am going to be in NC for the foreseeable future. It's good that we're going to me here, but it sucks that I am starting over again searching.
And in other news, my ex that I dated in HS and was a real bastard, to put it very mildly, was killed in a shootout with police after he robbed a store and carjacked someone. I am not sure how I'm supposed to feel about this.

CarolinaKat That is a lot to process, even just as the reader. I hope you'll recover from the virus soon. Take care & pace yourself, and maybe you & DH can make a point to have some designated "down time". As for the EX, maybe shocking but not surprising? It's shocking to have known and spent time with someone who turns out to have been capable of illegal reckless unconscionable behavior, but hindsight of his earlier ways make it not such a surprise? Relief he's no longer capable of doing damage, sorrow for people he affected including those who loved him? Maybe talking about it here is/was helpful? Hugs.

How is everyone? If anyone wants to help us out as a co-captain, please shoot me a message. We need two more people so that we aren't as stretched as we are right now. Thanks
