Great updates, everyone!!! The garden is a part time job. I am so happy with how everything is growing. We still have some to plant, but in this area, it's not too late. We spent some on soil amendments that will nurture the plants more, but the amended beds are very nice from last year, so the new ones will last at least two seasons, if they follow suit . It's been enjoyable so the expense is bringing joy, and that's better than most expenses, lol. I am happy that everyone is plugging along while still living. We have been at this a long time, so pacing the race is not a bad plan, at least for laps here and there. In general we are making progress, even if it's not at the speed of light we would love to see, but progress is better than where we all started. I keep "trying" to get back on track and it's so hard to make myself do it. It's like restricting my diet, I'm whining Noooooooooo! I can't ....... Well, thanks for listening to me whine about it. We'll update soon.

Hi 3jsmom! Your garden sounds fun! I think you are doing an amazing job with your debt payoff. You are very inspirational in very many ways. I would love to have a mini farm some day and have baby goats and chicks and my DH wants to have a tractor to play around with. In the meantime we have to be happy with our new puppy that is part goat. She is actually a big part of our debt right now. We found her one Saturday morning about 6 weeks ago when we went out to get doughnuts and she was on the side of the road near a busy freeway. She was teeny tiny and skin and bones. We had to stop and rescue her. We thought she was about 6-8 weeks old because she was so small but it turns out she was 16-18 weeks old. She only weighed 11 lbs and she is a black lab if that tells you anything. Well it also turned out she had parvo and 3 intestinal parasites. We chose to treat her and luckily she survived but it wasn't cheap. We are in about $3k in vet bills so far and we aren't done with all of the booster shots and still need to get her spayed. She is such a sweetie though! Within 3 weeks she gained 10 lbs and we need to take her back soon for another round of shots and I bet she gained close to another 10 lbs. We found her just in time and was able to save her and that is worth so much. She is a great addition to our family and our other black lab and boys love her so much. We had to start our other black lab on booster shots just as a preventative against the parvo and worms as well. We certainly didn't want her to get sick either. I can totally relate to the debt payoff being like a diet. I feel like WIRR is like my weight watchers weigh in. Years ago I lost 40 lbs through weight watchers and thought I had it figured out. Not! Here I am heavier than I was before I started. Just like with our finances it is a lifestyle change. You have to make it work forever and not deprive yourself so much so that you just give up completely. Some months it is hard to find a good balance and murphy doesn't help but for the most part as long as you are making good progress and learn from your mistakes it is all good. That is why I am back here again, learning from my mistakes and keeping myself accountable. We will get this debt paid off! We also just started the Paleo diet so hopefully we can get back on track with our weight too.

Nice update DeepinTx! And I agree with you... 3jsmom is doing a good job and leading by example And I am so happy for your new furry friend who landed so well in your home I agree also it is a struggle to maintain when it comes to weight loss and debt elimination. It's possible we could eliminate the rest of our consumer debt in the next 12 months, but I worry that level of restriction might not be good. It could be like losing weight on a diet so strict that makes me want to eat a whole chocolate cake , instead of being satisfied with a single serving size piece. And though I have DH's cooperation to a greater degree than ever before in our marriage, he doesn't really understand my goal, desire, and need to be free of debt, so he of course is not fully on board. Thus if he realizes we have eliminated all consumer debt, he'll be more than ready to sign on for payments for another "big boy toy". We've made plenty of mistakes, but in our mid 50's we need to "stay on the wagon" this time or the future could be quite ugly. ("Scuse me while I lecture myself.) Can you identify? Good job with your individual updates WIRRs, and efforts toward the group goal of $5million

Yes, and following that analogy, after we are completely debt free (and starved for spending), we could go right off the deep end again and build up more debt. I think that part of it is quite tempting. After all, we've paid off Credit Cards 2 times and always end up back in the hole, which tells me one thing: I HAVE NOT LEARNED MY LESSON COMPLETELY. Third time is the charm!

That is so true! I think I pushed too hard the first race because I wanted/needed the debt gone so bad. We managed to get it done but we also did without for several years. I think that is why we went a little crazy after we won the first race thinking that we deserve it because we went without for so long. Just silly things like buying new sheets, blankets, household items, clothes, etc because I hadn't replaced them in so long and they really needed it. Sure we were able to pay it off the next month but there was always something the next month we thought we had to replace. We did a major landscaping job in March that was expensive that took a good month to pay off. Then our dog peed on our couch and it wasn't leather and she had already chewed on it a few years back so we went out and bought new leather couches. I know we didn't need them but we were planning on replacing them when we had the money and I couldn't get the smell of pee out of the couch. So all of these things just added up. I keep hoping that we are done with the shopping but I am just as guilty as my DH (he spends on techie stuff) about spending. We need to get a healthier balance on our finances because we have alot we need to get done before we retire. We need to get our 6 month EF saved up. We need to pay off our house. We need to get both our boys through college and we have to save up enough to retire at some point. We are contributing to our retirement now but only 6% each and we keep saying when this debt is paid off we are going to max it out but we are still trying to get it paid off. I know it is alot of excuses but that is why I am back here getting serious again and need you all to keep me accountable.

Hey Everyone! This is my first time truly opening up to anyone about my debt. My husband and I are in the process of trying to have a baby, but I believe our debt is what keeps my stress level so high which then ultimately keeps us from having a baby. For instance, we were supposed to go in for a procedure today to help our chances, but God found a way to keep that from happening and I think he wanted me to not stress out about how we were going to be able to pay for the procedure. We have struggled with debt since we first started dating. My husband is a big spender and I am the wife who likes to give him anything and everything he asks for. Unfortunately, I realized this about myself a little too late. We were already in a lot of debt. Fortunately though, I have really worked with my husband and he has become a more careful spender. Still we have tons of debt that seems to only be getting worse with time. As soon as we pay off a card, it is like we add more on instead of decrease it. Anyways, I would love all the support I could get from all of you experts out there. I'm really trying hard to get our credit card debt paid off as soon as possible. We don't have any car loans (thankfully), we do have a mortgage, and we do have student loans; however, I would really like to focus on our credit card debt and any loans before focusing on our mortgage or student loans. My goal is to provide an update each month to hold myself accountable of my goals and to also paint a visual of how the debt is really decreasing and not increasing. I'm really excited about this opportunity and I honestly believe this is the type of positive support I need. Thank you all for your support!!! Here is the breakdown of our credit card and loan debt: Debt | Interest Rate | Balance | Goal Payoff Date | CC 1 | 0% | $141.00 | June 2013 | Loan 1 | 0% | $325.00 | June 2013 | Loan 2 | 0% | $3,000.00 | September 2013 | CC 2 | 21.2% | $1,405.56 | November 2013 | CC 3 | 30% | $2,425.00 | February 2014 | CC 4 | 4% | $2,409.24 | April 2014 | CC 5 | 17% | $3,670.75 | July 2014 | CC 6 | 7% | $4,500.00 | November 2014 | CC 7 | 20% | $4,343.29 | February 2015 | Loan 3 | 12% | $10,870.80 | April 2015 | CC 8 | 21% | $5,000.00 | July 2015 | CC 9 | 10% | $5,000.00 | September 2015 | TOTAL | | 43,090.54 | September 2015 |

Welcome, debtconqueror! What a great screen name! It sounds like now that you've reigned in some of your spending, you may still be having trouble with the monthly budget being too tight. We've all been there! If you want budget help, we're here if you want to share. How is your Emergency Fund? Do you have sinking funds for various items like car maintenance, house maintenance, medical expenses, etc? These things can help you from having to resort to the cards when things crop up. Deepintx: It is so good of you to rescue the puppy. Sometimes you have to step in even though..... It sounds like she is a little trooper. Will her growth be stunted from malnutrition? Animals can be amazing at recovery when you give them a chance. My mom found a little yorkie mix that was in bad shape a year or 2 ago, and now he's so spoiled, lol. I hope you'll be able to enjoy homesteading some day. There is always work to do, but it is wholesome. I was telling my sweety it leaves me exhausted but smiling. That's not a bad thing Enjoy eating as rustic as you can. I've read so many things telling about how grains and sweeteners are causing health problems for our us. I don't know the specifics of the paleo diet, but I know I can eat bread really quickly, but if I eat some wheat berries, it's a much slower process . We've been eating more quicky meals lately. Maybe I need to cook more. I tend to cook a big pot of something, then warm it up for a few meals. I As far as replacing all the stuff that was wornout, you have to do that sometimes. Maybe do some of the savings games we used to play to pay for smaller items... Like save all your 5's, or else just create a budget for it. I've never exactly created a budget, but I know a lot of WIRR's are good at it, lol. We bought leather a long time ago. It's a good investment in my opinion. forward: I don't know about leading, as I think we spend a bit of time walking in circles, lol. How are you? You are leading for sure. I know what you mean about the chocolate cake thing. I've been wrestling with what we consider to be treating ourselves. I'm getting to the point where I know that I prefer the little walk I take with my husband to the chocolate cake, and I prefer staying home laughing at ducks running after a bug to going out and spending, but there is room for all of it. Striking a balance is the task we are all working on. Sometimes we'll go too far one way or the other, but you can see that we're getting there. I'm so glad you are here to share with us. Hugs. Have you ever seen a duck run? It's cute, lol. Hi nasagreen. The third time is the charm. You've learned, but sometimes it's too hard to be "good", lol. I had to quit smoking 3 times, and it's stuck for the last 10 years or more. What I learned about myself and smoking was that No, I can't just have one, and if I let myself obsess about it, then I'd go have the first one. For the first year, I refused to smoke in Kentucky. I smoked a little when out of state, but not here. It seemed silly, but it worked for me. That may be a tool for debt, too. There are times we need the cards (or a loan of some sort), but I can see making a rule about how they are used. Sometimes we have to charge something that is beyond our control, and expensive... So we keep the cards. But then we have the cards and it becomes easy to justify just this or that, then before you know it, you've overdone it. First thing, make a rule that you can live with. I won't charge more than we can pay at the end of the month, unless..... and if unless occurs.... I'll tighten my belt. It just occured to me that if I wouldn't go get a bank loan to buy something, then it's not worth paying interest on. That's a rule I can accept How are you feeling? trojen3: Great update. Rounding the corner for the first third of your payoff! Hi debtconqueror. So glad to have you join us. The captains will need your state. We are all in the same struggle You have payoff goals, so you have a budget going? Are you using the snowball method? Are your 0% loans ending soon? Welcome aboard. Thanks Lucy! I'll go check it out Hey jdnstl! Great job and congrats on your car . So you'll probably make the 5500 club next month? That is so great!! What is Tunisia like?

jdnstl - Congrats on paying off the car!!!! Thanks for keeping up with our numbers. I don't blame you, I wouldn't want my boys to go to Tunisia without me. This way you get to experience your ex-DH's culture too. Bonus! Welcome debtconquerer!!! Hi forwardwego! Great update trojen3! Love the new zero! 3jsmom - Great update for you too! To answer your questions, our puppy won't have any growth issues. They think she will actually be bigger than our other lab. They estimate her being between 60-70 lbs and our other lab is 42 lbs and she is just over 3 years old. We take her in this week for her last set of boosters so we will see how much more she has grown. I am only a week on the Paleo diet and I have to say I love it! I feel so much better already. I am completely off of sugar and processed foods and I think they are cleared from my system now (that part wasn't pleasant). I weighed myself this morning and I lost 3.6 lbs this last week. I feel like I lost even more because I feel so different. My body is already changing. My husband feels great too and we are so glad we started this. I don't see us ever eating any other way. We are slowly changing the way our kids eat now but in a more primal way (with dairy) until I talk to their doctor and make sure it is ok to remove dairy from their diet. I just want to make sure they are getting enough since they are still growing. We walk 5k on the trails in our neighborhood most nights and we have more energy and feel better and are sleeping better. I highly recommend it. Have a great week everyone!

3jsmom - i'm feeling better. i haven't gained any weight at all and i'm 17 weeks tomorrow. which is good in a way because i weigh significantly more than I did the first go around. i'm eating more and also trying acupuncture for my headaches since they didn't go away during this pregnancy like they did with the last. i'm gearing up to be excited about finding out about the sex. that sounds weird the way I said that, but I honestly wish I could have a surprise in the delivery room. my husband likes to know and last time we tried a compromise, but i ended up finding out. this time we are finding out at the anatomical u/s but we are then having a party.
debtconqueror - WELCOME! You are in the proverbial boat with all of us!!! We welcome you so much and hope if you have any questions, just put it out there. You'll see who sticks around the boards and is there to let you know our "wisdom". Haha! but seriously, we want you to succeed, it is simply a path you have to begin walking, rather than a one time choice that you make.

deepintx: That is great about your puppy. I'm sure he'll be one spoiled furbaby Thanks for sharing about your healthy lifestyle. Part of our gardening is about having access to organic without the expense. There is still expense, but hopefully the veggies will bring as much joy as the gardening itself. About my first garden tomato.... watching and waiting to grab it nasa, I'm with you on enjoying the surprise. Just remember that sometimes they misjudge on the U/S and then you get a surprise anyway, lol. Wishing you freedom from headaches. That has to be hard to deal with... forwardwego, so proud of your progress. Excellent update! That sounds so amazing about the manatees!!! I figure my zeroes have to display some character, lol. It reminds me what it took to earn them, and makes me laugh, win/win Great job, goalofzero! Breezing above and beyond the 50% mark, and stacking the zeroes Shoutout to our old friends who've graduated or moved on. I miss so many of you Hope everyone has the best week!!

ATTENTION CAPTAINS: UPDATE
Muffyinthe Red 06/15/2013 $79,765.42 (9/9/08 $128,662.37 S373, SU395, PRO 77, 81, 86, 137) NC Paid off since joining $48,896.95 Percentage: 38% Paid off this month: $139.51 Medical Bills $1,222.84 -80.00 = $1,142.84 CU Savings - $1,644.03 This month is horrible. And next month won't be much better because we are travelling again to WI to see that adorable new grand daughter that was born in April. All this travelling is hurting my pay downs. Even though I have an extra $500 month to put on these horrible CC's. I am also trying to pay off a charge that I am not racing because of the extremely high interest (24.9%). But this will be our last trip back to WI, until Christmas time, so hopefully that will put us back on track by September. I so want to get to $50,000 paid off, soooonnnn.

Nasgreen - I know that this real late but I am terrible behind on reading. Congratulations on the baby front. And it appears that you are getting your ducks in a row on how to afford the little bundle. 3js - If you are still deciding on an outside burner, you can also use it to make beer!!! My son has one and that might also be a place to look to buy one. Don't know if it is cheaper through a beermaking shop or not but just another idea. Save money on beer if anyone in your house drinks it!!!
I hope that everyone looking for a job, gets the job of their dreams.

So short update: ATTN Captains UPDATE Red Racer Ris 6/18/2013 $97,948 (3/20/10 $134,409 SU220 OK/AK) DHs car broke, I got the promotion, business now only owes us $105, and I got commissioned to do a tattoo design. I had a weekend away and without internet access. How did we ever survive? And for those of you who did update, thanks for updating in alphabetical order! 3jsmom: nice even number...you know how I like those! You are so lucky to have fresh tomatoes. I bought a basil plant but keep forgetting to eat off it. I do love to smell it when I water it though. I love eating sun-warmed fresh veggies! I hope you can find a smiley thumbing its nose for your next zero. forwardwego: heeeheeee...another nice and even number. Happy AnniWIRRsary! Dropping more than 50% of your debt in 2 years is not too shabby. Soon I'll have to come up with a song for you! goalofzero: by the time I got to your post, I was just about giddy. Seriously 3 nice numbers in a row. You list of ZEROs is impressive. You are really living up to your name! muffyinthered: Congrats on the new granddaughter! Save travels to WI. I'm sure you know that delaying your payoff by a couple months gets totally trumped by seeing a new baby! redracerris: Go, fight, WIN on the promotion and the tattoo design! I'll keep you in mind if I ever really decide to get one. I've been thinking about it for 21 years already. Maybe I'm just not ready. I hope the car repair doesn't set you back too much. debtconquerer: WELCOME to WIRR! please let us know what state you're in. also, when you update it should like like the following to make it easy for the captains to track: debtconqueror current date, current amount (6/6/13 $43090.54, PB158). the info in the parenthesis doesn't change and just change the date & amount for your update. out of curiousity, you have quite a few cards with high interest rates, have you tried to transfer them to a 0% card or asked the company to lower the rates? if not, it doesn't hurt to ask. if you don't ask the answer is already no.

muffy, that sounds like fun Does he save anything by making it? Or is it like gardening, you get what you put into it redracerris, that is so cute. Great update and congrats on the business growth .... That really was a speedy post, lol. speech, thanks for updating our list. Yeah, I'm working in even numbers because I have a 0% offer (no interest), and I'm only counting our extra payments on the other loan until we get a bit closer. They do an auto payment that I'm not counting. I'm going for the pleasantly surprised look sometime in the future, lol. I have plants mostly for the smell. Ginger is so wonderfully fragrant, and sometimes I harvest the root, but it is wonderful to water it all season long . Still green tomatoes, but they are getting bigger

Update! 06/19/13 $100,700.00
%paid on our mortgage: 46.4% %paid on our total debt: 72.8%
Slowly but surely we are knocking it down. We are working on saving our money but as always, I'm waiting for the market downturn to put it into investments and the market downturn isn't happening. So it is sitting in a savings account accruing no interest. Ugh.
Our local school district is raising taxes again (2.6%) and so our property taxes are going to go up again. And they are talking about building a new school and if it passes, they will go up dramatically. I've worked so hard to get our actual mortgage payment down to a reasonable amount (reamortizing the loan, paying off more than needed etc) and they just keep raising the taxes and I bet it will get to point that I'm paying as much in taxes just to the school that I am in my mortgage. I'm sorry but the students in my town have a lot of luxuries that I never had in school and my education was fine -- I got a PhD.
And then there is the school board, who in 2007 decided to use taxpayer money and did some kind of weird credit SWAP with a bank -- something like taking out a loan with the thought that interest rates would go up and then the bank would have to pay the school money. Well, as we all know interest rates are at and have been at an all time low for 5 years and with the low interest rates the school owes the bank money. The school tried to get out of it, took them to court, lost and now owes this bank $15 million dollars -- for nothing. Basically because the board members at the time gambled with tax payer money and lost. And of course the home owners have to foot that bill too.
Ok rant over.
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer.

After the Fed meeting yesterday, stocks are taking a hit because of the potential wind-down of the stimulus program.

So I took another look at my budget and realized that I was floating some cash each paycheck and could recoup nearly $3K this month by fixing that. The result? Another zero!!!!! So excited about that. It wasn't my highest interest rate but I had enough cash to knock it out completely so I couldn't resist. It looks like I might be under $200K before the end of the summer. That is mind blowing to me. This board has been really helpful in getting me to this point so THANK YOU. Here's to being one step closer to debt free.
