UPDATE CraftySarah: 5/15/2013 $51,380.07 (2/26/2011 $77,970.68 STP25)
I'm getting a little nervous about my upcoming move, so I reduced my monthly loan payment a bit. I'm going to need you guys to help me stay accountable...
I can send $500 to savings instead of my student loans until I sell my condo, but if I'm not paying double rent I have to increase my SL payment again. "Crafty wants a new couch" is not a legitimate reason to shortchange my race. This is a temporary adjustment.
Okay, I'll probably need someone to quote that back at me in a couple of months if I don't ramp things back up.

CarolinaKat How is the job hunt going? Nasagreen Hopefully you'll be feeling better soon? When is the new little one due? Good job moving debt to the paid column, keep up the good work. RE: "If you had a small windfall, would you apply it to a mortgage debt?"
It seems the question presumes there is no other consumer debt. In that case I would probably split the windfall between my EF and the mortgage debt. goalofzero Nice update! Getting rid of the Capital One will be awesome Thank you kindly speechchick for the updates smilies and shoutouts!!! I love doing the victory songs. It's a gift to the winner and hopefully helps us all have positive financial thoughts humming through our heads -whistle- Good job updating speechchick, ffflex, & CarolinaKat

Shoutout to Muffyinthered, Is the new granddaughter here? Sorry if I've missed any recent updates or events!

Better pay down this month than I was expecting! So I didn't take the money out of my IRA to pay off CC#1 but I was able to get a better interest rate so I'm feeling less anxious about it. My payments will go further now and hopefully it will be gone in a hurry. Here's to being one step closer to debt free.

Thanks forwardwego. We have a zero interest and the mortgage, so I'm thinking you are right for this situation.

UPDATE 3jsmom31: 5/19/2013 $46,694.00 (10/3/12 $67,975.18 S142, S154)Start:.......................................Current: $41,033.19................................$34,000.00 $12,954.00................................$12,694.00 $ 9,809.38.................................*Zer * $ 4,178.61.................................*Zer * $67,975.18................................$46,694.00 ============================================ I hope you guys don't care, I am just counting the principal payment on the mortgage until I get a little closer to done. I don't want to ask my mortgage balance every month from now til we finish, lol. It will be a little less than my number because the regular payment reduces it some, too.

ATTENTION CAPTAINS: Update
Muffyinthe Red 05/15/2013 $79,870.01 (9/9/08 $128,662.37 S373, SU395, PRO 77, 81, 86, 137) NC Paid off since joining $48,792.36 Percentage: 37.9% Paid off this month: $826.66 Medical Bills $1,322.84 -110.00 = $1,222.84 CU Savings - $1,644.03
Sorry this is late and not too good. Some good things have happened since last I was here. We went to WI again to see our first granddaughter born. She was born on April 29th. She adorable and that is not just her grandmother saying that!!!
Then on May 5th we paid off our GE Loan of $25,000. I am so happy. That was a payment of at least $510 per month. That will really free up some money for a large snowball. As soon as I figure everything out (like what gets paid at the same time as that payment was made) we will start getting rid of some more of this debt. I also finally got below $80,000 owed. We have put some of our travel expenses on a charge that is not being raced so will have to get going on that card too. I have a Chase card that is not being raced that I only owe about $1,000 and I want that gone because the interest is 25% and I hate them. It is way lower than it used to be and it has not been used for something like 2 years, but they still will not lower the interest rate. They have to go.
Am way behind on reading so when I get caught up I will give some shout outs but until then I hope everyone is doing well. Have a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

Update: 5/23/2013 $10,171.00 (7/20/07 $33,441.00 N3848) Greeting WIRR, I had written up a nice update, but it went away, not sure where. I am sure it is user error. I am glad to read all the updates and see all the paydowns. I will not write it again, will do something different next time. Hang in there everyone.

Bra Money: if you happen to be typing and it disappears, try doing ctrl+z. It should all come back. It's an "undo" shortcut.
Strangely enough, that exact thing happened to me while I was typing this...maybe it could sense what I was doing?

Can you guys see all the smilies in the update list or are some the text? My filter finally allows the pretty version of this page, without all the links, but the smilies still appear like text in some cases.

Hi forwardwego! Thank you for all the shoutouts and words of encouragement. You are always so thoughtful and supportive. Nasa - Sorry you are having a rough pregnancy. I hope you start feeling better soon. I know my first was a breeze and my second was miserable. Just know the end result is so worth it. Congrats! BTW I see some smilies and some text just like speechchick. Thank you for all your work on the boards. I know you have to be crazy busy right now. 3jsmom & debtfreeredux - WOW! Amazing pay downs!!! Hi bramoney! Great paydown for you too! Good to see you Muffy! Great job paying off that loan! That will really increase your snowball and you will be able to do some major debt paydown now. I know when I finally paid off my car which was about that same loan amount as yours that is when everything really started flowing and it went very quickly after that. I hope the same goes for you too. Congratulations on your new granddaughter!!! Craftysarah - Congratulations on the new job and upcoming move! Red Racer Ris - YAY! You are out of the 100's! You are doing awesome! ffflex - Sorry to hear about the wedding day problems. Some times weddings can be so stressful you just want to have them over with so you can just enjoy married life. I'm glad you are enjoying yours! Hi speechchick! How are you doing? Is the job getting any better?

Thanks guys! Well, hmmm I wonder what is up with the smilies. We will have to work on that. Maybe moonbeam can help. Now that my page is viewing properly, I can click on the right hand side list of smilies, but there are a lot of blank slots where smilies should be. That could be a proboards problem.

I am just keeping on. I am really trying to cut down on our extra spending and keep it to what I have budgeted. I bought a lot of extra stuff for the garden we have, so I am not going to buy anything else for that unless it is out of our household fund. We have not quite our EF to $2000, which is when I can start putting extra money towards the loans. I got a summer job at the nutrition center at Fred Meyers for the summer, so that we would not have to use that EF. We still have not heard about DH getting the assignment that is full time and more money. The guy is supposed to be leaving in June, maybe he found a way that he did not have to move. I may be getting a promotion for the photography job up to the service rep. At least they told me that they would if my partner decided to move up there. Through extenuating circumstances, she has to today. I may not hear from them until next week.

Hey DeepinTx: The job is going a little better, I suppose. I am weeding out the people who don't show and if the ones on my current schedule would just come, I'd be doing really well (financially) again. I haven't paid any quarterly taxes yet which which means I'll have a big bill at the end of the year. Right now I"m not too concerned as I'm not nearly at the numbers I used to get as a contractor but my schedule is pretty full now so the numbers could change a lot. I'm planning on quitting job #2 as soon as my bigger numbers start rolling in. It is causing me more stress than it's worth. I hate dealing with the pedestrians and crazy drivers in this area! RRRis: you are over 25% paid off! Great job! Nasa: don't forget to do your update so that you don't get booted from the list I've decided to stay home this weekend. I figured out that I have been gone or busy for the past 8 weekends and it's time for me to just lay low. My "2nd" job gets me home so late in the evenings that I can never seem to get anything done during the week...is June too late for spring cleaning?

UPDATE: Trojen3: 5/30/13: $69,809.17 (8/24/12: $99,479.89) Name of Debt | Current Debt | Starting Debt | Total Paid | % Paid Off | Car Loan | $0 | $2,201.08 | $2,201.08 | 100% | SL #1 - Sallie Mae | $0 | $1,491.42 | $1,491.42 | 100% | SL #2 - Grad PLUS | $43,310.53 | $46,339.33 | $3,027.80 | 6.53% | SL #3 - Grad PLUS | $26,498.64 | $28,852.49 | $2,353.85 | 8.16% | SL #4 - Private | $0 | $20,596.57 | $20,596.57 | 100% | Total | $69,809.17 | $99,479.89 | $29,670.72 | 29.83% |
Got that 0 on SL #4. Gears are going to change a little now. After talking with a number of different financial advisors, we have decided to continue to pay down my SL's at their minimum (plus my usual snowball of car loan, SL #1 and now SL #4 - an additional $432 a month) and pay heavily into a new Sep IRA to help DH and I start saving more than our usual Roth IRA for retirement. It is such a goal to get rid of my nearly $360k in student loans, but I am learning that retirement savings for us as future business owners, is far more important. With the amount of SL's I have, they will be here for a very long time. We will max our the new Sep IRA and then for the rest of the year maximize payment of SL #2.

speechchick - argh, I know, I always forget. But never fear, I'm not gone from the list for long update: nasagreen 5/30/13 $84,196.46 (7/27/07 $144,371.69)That is a decrease of $984.54 since April 17th. Not shabby, but we have eaten through every bit of our savings on Murphy's law: septic drain field, truck brakes & tires, boat trailer axel, etc etc. We are living paycheck to paycheck which I am not happy about, but you know the drill, we will have to build up our savings again. Thankfully, my husband gets extra money during the summer because he works a second job (he is a teacher) and so that will help tremendously, but it seems like each year I have to spend that money/save instead of killing credit cards. In full disclosure, although we paid almost $1k off, we added $474.55 to credit cards due to not having enough money in the bank to make it to the next paycheck. THIS IS A MORTAL SIN OF WIRR!!! I will not be moved! We will stop this nonsense!! Tonight, we ride! Huzzah!!! *Cue the music!

ATTENTNION CAPTAINS: UpDate.
Red Ruby 82574.65 (1/21/2009 $163,872.74) S561
Yes, I know I went up. We are doing a remodel in our kitchen and this is the end of it. It was a must, because I had no cooktop. So I have finished with the big stuff. This includes all new appliances and granite countertops. I paid cash for most, but DH had to have tires and DD had to have a new battery. All in all it is good. Going to teach summer school so we can go on a cash vacation. How many more vacations will I get with just us and our 4 kids? DD #1 is about to be 19 DD#2 14 DS almost 8, DD#4 almost 3 (3 birthdays this summer). I am also sentencing myself to a workshop that pays really well. Hopefully I can get down to $75K by the end of Summer.

Good Morning WIRRs
Yea for Friday! (every 6th week I get a 3 day weekend, and this is it) ...yahoo! Reminder to Publix Shoppers...the coupon for saving $10 on a gas card is good today tomorrow and Sunday I'm not much of a couponer, but $10 is a motivator. That said, offering up a WIRR challenge: Share a way that you have learned or used to save $10. Nasa Thanks for the updates , good paydown, keep on fighting the good fight. Be the rock...do not be moved trojen3 Kudos on @$30K paid, good for you and DH getting organized on retirement planning. Being balanced between paying off debt and saving is so valuable. This is something I need to work on. RedRacerRis Congrats on the job(s) and best wishes on the one for your DH. And nice update, it will be fun to start knocking the loans down out of the $20K range. Hola speechchick, Florida is a tough place to work and drive. Good job culling out the clients who were costing you with their irresponsibility. Congrats on the update Muffy and the arrival of your granddaughter Bramoney good update...under $10K SOON! That will be awesome! Enjoy your weekend ALL
