Update! Pay-no-Interest
April 28, 2013. $101,600.00 (05/07 $369,884.00)
I've paid off 46% of my mortgage now. Slowly but surely DH and I will hit the 50% mark. Next month will be my 6 year WIRR anniversary and I think I'll try to come up with $1,601 so I can graduate from the 100K club.
It looks like everyone is making steady progress on their debt pay offs! Nice job!
Red RAcer Ris: Congratulations on getting under $100K! I hope to join you soon.
My life has been a little crazy but good.
1. The 10 year accreditation visit for my program is done and went well. I have a few items I have to address that I know about. I'll get the complete report at the beginning of June that will tell me everything I have to address. The site reviewers indicated they thought it would take me one day to address everything which is great.
2. My husband is quitting his current job and taking a teaching position at the university I am at. It means a $16K pay cut for him but his hours will be more flexible and we both expect he'll enjoy the work more. AND, he was able to get some contract work in another division of the company he is working with and so he thinks he'll be able to earn about 8K-10K from that work. If it works out that way his pay cut won't be as bad. As long as he is more relaxed I'll be happier. Plus it means his schedule will be aligned with mine and so their should be more opportunities for big vacations together.
3. I have to push through 3 more literature reviews and give one final exam and I'll be able to wrap up this semester. I'm teaching a 4 week summer session and will earn $5K gross. I tend to use that money as fun money for myself. I haven't figured out what I want to do with it -- right now I think a portion of it will go towards a gym membership so I can get stronger. Hitting 40 years old it seems like my muscles are going to mush.
I've been putting in 16-18 hour days at work for the past month. I'm definitely looking forward to some relaxation.

My last post was back in Nov 2012. Still owed about $8,000.00 on our mortgage. **Update - mortgage now fully paid as of 1 April 2013 Time for me to move on to the "savers boards" I guess. Never could have done this without DH (never even thought about living debt-free before meeting him) Well wishes to everyone and stay focused on your financial goals. All the best, Blackcard

Congratulations blackcard! What an exciting win - because when you kick your mortgage to the curb, debtfree really does mean debtfree. What are you doing to celebrate? (please say mortgage burning party please say mortgage burning party)

Hi Everyone! I am ready to start a new race. I need the accountability of this board. I am really struggling to keep the cc paid off each month. Plus we still haven't paid off our HVAC loan and I really want to see that gone. I can't get my table to paste right. Did something change? Any tips on getting it to post correctly? Congrats Blackcard! Love the song forwardwego!

** NEW RACE ** deepintx(2): 5/3/13 $9,669.94 (5/3/2013 $12,369.94 PB156)
I hope I did that right. I will try to figure out the table another time. In the meantime here are my totals. I just made payments to my cc and Home Depot loan (HVAC) so I thought I might as well get credit for it.
Have a great weekend!

Hey deepintx, married life is mighty fine , thanks for asking. The day of the wedding was rainy so we were undercover instead of on the beach and inside for the reception instead of the luau, and the cake topper got misplaced. There were a few tears over the snags, but every plan B worked out fine. Whitney walking down the aisle to me was a dream come true. Heck I even love my new mother-in-law. I hope you are well in Texas and that you'll have your debt wiped out PDQ. Hang in there Carolinakat, jdnstl, and speechchick Good update trojen3, redracerris and paynointerest

ATTN CAPTAINS:
Please check the date of my last update that y'all have listed. I'm thinking that it was just a typo. I know that I made the update on 4/26, but the "official" update has the update listed as 3/26. Thanks so much, and Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers.

Trojen: You've already paid off over 25% in less than a year. That's no small change...literally and figuratively! Forwardwego: great song for Blackcard; I'm still humming it in my head. You never cease to amaze. And your numbers are looking good too! dimplesnlj: glad we got your update in. You keep plugging along in the "less negative" direction! I found my name and even added me back in. I didn't realize I dropped off the list. Doing these updates is really amazing, seeing the numbers and realizing it's THOUSANDS of dollars. Keep up the good work everyone!

I know it looks like I don't pay much but I do have other debt I'm not racing. I actually paid $506.98 on a CC paying it off this month. I hope to have Capital One gone with tax refund soon. Keep up the good racing everyone!!

goalofzero: I know what you mean about other debts that are not being raced: I pay off my AmEx in full every month. All of my expenses go on that card so it is often $1k or greater. Keep up the good work though. You had a lot of things you were racing and they have a nice fancy "zero" next to them! You also knocked that loan in half....nothing to be ashamed of!

Hi everyone ... I want to get opinions..... "If you had a small windfall, would you apply it to a mortgage debt?" I know the older train of thought was to invest rather than prepay a mortgage, but things seem different nowadays, and in a way, our mortgage was an investment..... Happy Monday!!! Oh, we got chicks out of our little incubator! They are very adorable, and I had to make myself put the incubator up so we don't end up with a ridiculous amount of chickens

Well, I'm still here. Hanging on for dear life. This pregnancy is very different than the last and I've been pretty sick. Plus I've continued to have migraines which have been hard to handle. Today I'm home from work with one. We are still struggling with debt paydown and still owe my mom some money. We make so much, but spend it too. Classic problems. As you get further on your race, over years and years (we're almost at 6 years on the board), it is harder to make the cutbacks permanent because you feel deprived. But, we still pay all our bills on time, which is a huge plus, and are moving debt to the paid column. I just need to focus on that.

Hi All, this month's updates below. Still adding extra to finish paying off the car this month. Assuming nothing unexpected pops up will try in the next month to completely wipe out Cap1 so I can throw everything at the Home D, the interest on that one is killing me. Wish I could balance transfer a store card...any group thoughts? Thanks!

Keep your head up, nasa. Sorry you are having a hard time right now. Each pregnancy was different for me, but it was consistent about no caffeine or I was gonna hurl. Maybe you are sensitive to something that normally doesn't affect you. I hear you about the paydown. Some years (yep, years) we were kind of unfocused about it, and then others we worked hard on it. We started (mostly) making it a priority a year or so before I joined the WIRR on the other site. We borrowed right at the same time as we completed the first race, so it's like we never were out of debt .... Anywho, I hope you get to feeling better!
