It was a general statement J. That it would get any guy who got one to buy me whatever I wanted. Not that I'm testing it but that's what KC said

To answer the thread topic does anyone really make a decision on vaccinating their kids based on what she says?

I'm sure people have but really people outside of LA and Hollywood would make decisions based on that? I guess I just really want to believe people aren't that dumb.

Virgil the study was from years ago. If you really want to read it I could probably find the original. However the journal that published it removed it from their database so it is a little harder to find.

I saw the article stating it was a bogus claim. My son is educationally (but not medically) "diagnosed" as having Asperger's, a form of autism. Not long ago I got in an "argument" with another poster about how I believed that real studies should be done and that there were so many other environmental changes (surrounding a child, not "earth environment") like electronics, household chemicals, etc developed in the past several years that are far more likely causes than immunizations. Biologically, immunizations didn't make sense as a cause compared to everything that people focused on the hype were ignoring, while cases of disease were increasing due to fewer people being immunized (flu shot, give or take, but things like small pox, etc that can do much worse damage). How many hundreds of years was lead accepted before it was realized it caused brain damage? And mercury used to be played with like a toy. And asbestos was once the best insulating material you could dream of! The anti-immunization bandwagon is huge, and yes, when a celebrity runs with it it gets much more attention. How many people would really know what stem-cell research was if it wasn't for Michael J. Fox? Ugh, if everything you touch hurts, don't just jump to the "fact" that you have a horrible disease and ignore that your dang finger is broken... Glad the truth about the original report was exposed. Numerous studies have been done since that one that have found no connection, but those are ignored because the celebrities must be right. Ok, serious-toned rant over. And on another note, icy bjs, tested and verified (old study, feel free to perform your own). Best results achieved while performed in a hot tub Oh, and a long post without any typos!! I must not have been too worked up

I've had several people question my decision to vaccinate my children based on the original discreted study and Jenny McCarthy's activism.

But but but the lady who rang up my groceries at Target said vaccines are bad!! Are you saying she has no clue what she is talking about?!
It's a correlation because the most obvious symptoms of autism crop up right at the same time a child has recieved the majority of his/her vaccinations. It's very easy for a parent to jump to that because naturally you are going to want to find a cause.
Until what it is that exactly causes autism is found, parents are going to leap to whatever explaination makes the most sense.
I read somewhere that the doctor who did this study recieved a lot of funds from people interested in proving vaccinations cause autism, which is a conflict of interest.

Suzanne Somers thinks she has the cure for cancer. I almost picked up her book at the library but I was afraid the lab gods would smote me on the spot. I was dying to see how the inventor of the Thighmaster has found what educated researchers have spent years trying to find.

She's also found the cure for aging, which involves injecting mare urine directly into her vagina walls.

Oh it was mare urine? I was telling DH about that, I thought it was estrogen she injected directly into her hoo ha. I said if how she looks is the key to youth, FORGET IT! Mare urine is a huge component of HRT, did you know that? Specfically pregnant mares and a particular hormone they produce.

I am a direct result of no vaccinations for Rubella during the epidemic in the mid 60's. The vaccination today is combined with measles and mumps. (MMR)

I was thinking, if you find the right guy that cure won't cost you a thing!

Hormone Replacement Therapy. Or at least it used to be, I have no idea if it is still synthesized pregnant mare urine or not.
I don't get the hysteria over the MMR, if it was the MMR causing autism then you would have started seeing a huge increase in autism back in the 1980's.
But you don't, it's a recent uptick.
Personally I think it's going to end up being like Down's Syndrome. It's genetic and the odds of it occuring are going to increase as the parents age.
