LOL @missrigby! I've already voted too, but wouldn't it be fun to wear a shirt for someone who isn't running, like Hillary? I will, have to see if I can find an 'Elect George McGovern' tee-shirt seeing I voted for him in 1972. Wear it to the 2024 election. I had a “Don’t Blame Me, I’m from Massachusetts” t-shirt from that election. I was 13 and already had a solid political leaning. 😁

Hoping to travel to see ODS in a couple of weeks. We haven’t seen him since February. We are staying at a campground, in a cabin with a full bath and full kitchen, big deck, fire pit, etc. The plan is for it to be a socially-distant visit. But with the numbers increasing from here to there, I’m worried that our trip won’t happen or that or will be that much more risky. Ugh.

Well, you have to admit her case was pretty unique- 89 years old and also suffering form a rare type of untreatable blood cancer. It's consistent with what I've been saying, though. Even if I were to get tested and find I'd had CIVID-19 (and I have no reason to suspect that I've had it) there's not a thing I'd change in my behavior. There's nothing that implies lasting immunity if you survive it. There have been 37 confirmed cases of reinfection. More people had a more serious case the second time. My comment was directed against the GOP's current plan of herd immunity. I wonder if it’s a matter of catching the Asian strain and then the European strain? The European strain, which hammered the Northeast, seems more deadly than the Asian strain that hit the West Coast.

Anyone know of a good, small freezer that is energy efficient? I just bought a 5 cf GE chest freezer that got decent marks from Consumer Reports. Energy efficiency is important, but so is the ability to maintain an even temperature, run quietly, reliability, etc. I only buy manual defrost freezers because I find the automatic defrost feature can dry out the frozen food (meat, in particular). I had an upright freezer for a few years, but it’s critical that you make certain that the door is securely closed (and locked for good measure!) or you’ll lose everything in it. Ask me how I know...😩. Chest freezers trade convenient access for the gravity assist in closing the lid. 😆

My 5 cf chest freezer came with the house when we bought it 10 years ago. The freezer is at least 25 years old. I wanted a second freezer so that I could avoid last Spring’s grocery shortages if/when we get locked down again. I did my research, ordered online from a small regional appliance chain, and picked it up 2 weeks ago well ahead of the expected “end of October” availability.
We have some redundancy in the refrigerator sector, LOL, with a kitchen fridge, a milk/beer fridge, and YDS’ apartment-size fridge currently stored in our basement, so I think we’re okay with respect to fridges.
All other appliances are hanging in there. 🤞

Make a list of what you WANT to do with your time, and then prioritize that list. Keep in mind what physical demands those wants require so that you schedule those activities early on while you are still healthy and mobile.
I look forward to joining you in retirement one day, but, for me, I will need some sort of structure whether it is a daily schedule or a year-long travel plan to keep me from frittering time away and/or from becoming paralyzed and feeling overwhelmed by the enormous freedom. But, that might just be me.

Where to start...an incomplete list, at best:
1. Buy a small house or year round cabin on the Maine coast. 2. Buy an RV and travel America, drive across Canada, “drive” the Alaska Highway, drive the Yukon Highway. 3. Spend a good chunk of time (at least 3 weeks) in Ireland. 4. Visit the 5 continents I haven’t visited yet. 5. Do something scary. 6. Go on one more epic trip with DH and the kids before the kids are completely grown and flown. 7. Find a job in my professional field and really use my education, skills, and, most importantly, my intellect. Staying home with the kids for 24 years was great, and all, but not nearly as intellectually stimulating as one might think. 😉

I figure now that I’m retired I should start doing fun stuff. Too bad I’m on lockdown in my home from what’s going on right now. I will just think of more things I can add to my list for now. Congratulations on the retirement!! 20 years on the force? That flew by!! 😉😂

Still no power.
I think the Russians are behind it. Massachusetts — especially Eastern Massachusetts — is overwhelmingly voting for Biden. If we can’t see the debate or the tweets afterward, we can’t know how badly Pence did and might vote Trump after all.
Or, maybe I just need the coffee that is brewing in the camping percolator on the gas stove that I courageously lit with a match.

Actually she presented a very rational explanation of why MT is part of the problem. Tina is voting for Trump, showing that she agrees with him. It is a very rational statement to identify MT as part of the problem. I understand that, but in Tina's previous post, she stated that she did NOT agree with Trump and that she was voting against Biden. It does not need to devolve into name calling. Tina is allowed her opinion just like everyone else. I feel like I had this same discussion with Flan when buystoys stated that she was voting 3rd party. Tina disagrees with Trump ONLY on how he handled the pandemic. If she is voting against Biden, she is voting FOR Trump. She does not see the forest for the trees.

Ugh. He got the job. Part of me is thrilled, part of me is “he’ll be 30 hours away driving in the middle of a pandemic”.
It’s only a temporary job. Just through the end of the year. Is it helicopterish to tell him the risk outweighs the rewards?
I’m also wondering how there can’t be qualified candidates between here and western Kansas, kwim?

Like others, I make my own and use it for things where the stock is a primary flavor (soups, sauces, etc.). Funny enough, I have a pot of chicken stock simmering on the stove now because we had a roasted chicken the other night. I tend to make stock as the opportunity arises, like today, and freeze it for when I need it. I don't follow a recipe. I just throw in large chunks of onion, carrots, celery and a bunch of spices and then fill with enough water to cover the carcass and then simmer for hours.
If I don't have any homemade stock or the flavor isn't a highlight, I have to buy prepared stocks carefully. Some companies throw unnecessary ingredients like soy protein concentrate into their stocks or bouillions and, well, as you know, we have food allergies. I buy the jarred Better than Bouillion products and/or the Pacific Foods organic, low salt, free range stocks.

YDS has a potential job opportunity in Western Kansas.
Anyone here with any experience, advice, local knowledge about the Covid situation there? Are people masking up there or is the prevailing view that the virus is a hoax?

Add to this that 11 people in Cleveland have tested positive, and all were associated with the debate facilities. COVID Trump was spreading his disease and pestilence long before the media caught wind. I wonder how many more people got sick, who cannot afford it. I am worried about Biden. What’s the incubation period?

It is staged. His hair is the exact same in both pics, and actually looks a little less "perfect" than usual suggesting he's been laying on it. He is wearing the same shirt. He looks haggard and tired and pale. He won't admit it because the stock market opens back up at 9:00 a.m. tomorrow. Frankly, he should always sign blank pieces of paper given how little power his numerous Executive Orders carry.

How much formaldehyde would be needed to pull of a month-long "Weekend at Bernie's" at the White House? Someone should be watching formaldehyde sales in the D.C. area, just saying.

Is Fox News now saying the elections should be postponed to give Trump the time to do what he needs to do.... you got to be kidding me? You got to be kidding me? Aren’t you the same folks that could not wait to sent people back to work? Open the country back up? Ok we open now, there is no shutting down. Take a seat! No. Just NO! He knew the risk of catching the virus and he assumed that risk gleefully. (SMDH so much I'm going to get Shaken Thinking American Syndrome.)

Here’s an interesting kink in this story..... Conley (I believe the WH doctor) said in an interview that they are only 72 hours into diagnosis. That puts a positive test somewhere around Wednesday, BEFORE Hope Hicks was positive. Trump released he was positive for Covid 1 am Friday morning on Twitter, after Hope’s announcement. So Trump KNEW he was positive, yet still continued on with life as usual and did not self quarantine. If true is completely irresponsible. It also shows what he thinks about all the people he was exposed to in the period prior to the announcement. For all those who think he cares about them. If he is willing to expose his rich donors for political gain, do you really think he cares about others? He's losing. He'll use any tactic to win. Those big donors will be of no use to him if/when he loses, and have already given him gobs of cash. I think he knew before Wednesday. He yelled and shouted throughout the debate in order to infect (droplets carry further) and kill Biden off, throw the election into chaos, and he holds onto power. He's learned his lessons well at the feet of other despots throughout the world.

I don't rule out Mitt Romney. He is going along with the process, but said he will only vote for nominees with the proper qualifications. That gives him the chance to vote against Amy Kony Barrett if only to get back at Trump. She has only been a judge since 2017, before that a college professor. Is being a judge for 3 years sufficient to be a judge in the Supreme Court? With support from the right (literally and figuratively) people, yes. In the minds of most professionals in the legal field, no.

So running belief is the following: -> the President was not getting tested daily like they said he was. There is no way for him to go to testing daily to showing symptoms within hours of testing positive. -> ti wine is wonky. Hicks not super spreader just proof shit was about to hit the roof. And they did not make it public (journalist broke that news) and they continued as if life was just regular. -> and the big one and hope everyone pray it is not true: they knew long before that he had it and were hoping it would be mild or show no symptoms and not inform the public and kept business as usual. Criminal but I see Trump and Team pushing through with it. Timeline ... holes in the timeline. The goal was to infect and kill Biden?

Along the conventional wisdom lines of not giving a mass murderer any publicity, I think we should turn our attention to all of the worker bees in the White House and elsewhere that Trump has now infected. The White House crowd does not work in a vacuum. There are hundreds, if not thousands, of mostly low paid employees working in support positions: cooks, housecleaners, limo drivers, florists, staff at the Trump hotel where presumably out-of-town officials stay, receptionists, secretaries, etc. who are now exposed. We won't hear about them or from them. They've already been forced to sign confidentiality "agreements" to not disclose anything about their employment including their own Covid infection at the hands of a mass murderer.

But what they are discussing on cnn is that how the timeline for the president doesn’t make sense The drugs he is on are drugs that are administered on day 12-14 days after being positive, not 2 days after testing positive; the timeline does not line up. Was Trump himself was the super spreader at the event? He has had it longer than we all knew? Before that Saturday event? And yet he blamed Hicks for the spread (and insinuated that she is uncontrollably horny) saying she caught it because she hugs and kisses all of the FBI and law enforcement guys.

And another one's gone ...another one's gone.
Brian Williams on MSNBC just said that Chris Christie tested positive.
It's like Monty Python's Black Knight...tis but a scratch! They're dropping like flies!
Which puts the entire panel of commentators on ABC during the debate at risk. (My beloved, drool, LOL) David Muir was just to his left. George Stephanopoulos already had it. But Rahm Emannual, Linsey Davis, and others were all in the same room with Christie.
