Along with all his moral failings, it's the mainstream acceptance of lying that really scares me. Was visiting a different church last weekend. Out of nowhere the pastor starts the sermon with Christians are being persecuted. Transgenders are trying to replace Easter by having Biden move their national holiday. Whaaaaaaaattttttt? Even I know Biden didn't declare the first transgender day. Second, it's always been March 31 - it's Easter that moves around to follow the lunar cycle. No, just no. To top it off, the rest of the sermon had nothing to do with either topic. The pastor just had to get his dig in right upfront.
Spent the rest of the service playing tic tac toe and hangman with DD11. If I had not long since fallen out with organized religion this would absolutely do it for me. That fact that I would have to educate/detoxify my child because of the poison and lies spewed by a pastor during a church service I HAD TAKEN HER TO, would be not just a step too far, it would be at least a mile over the line! For me personally It would be a case of never again. Now, again in my opinion, the fact that young (pre)teens are present during this sermon is all the worse. These kids are just at that age where parents no longer know everything so they are especially vulnerable to others spewing these vile opinions. And I do believe they are a target audience by this so-called religious leader.

Cool tallguy . I used to have no problems giving up my seat to someone taller than I am (my sons are dondub 's height) but my knees just won't do it anymore. And the majority of my flights are 11 or more hours long. Definitely worth the upgrade. Maybe that will be true one day for short flights as well but not yet...

Back from my daily stroll. Tomorrow I really need to go before 11am because it was just too hot for me today. I would have gone earlier today but had to wait for my new range to be delivered. Such is life but at least I got my steps in and now I am drinking a cold lemonade so all is good

Whether 6'4" is tall enough to refer to yourself as tall is neither here nor there (IMO 6'4" is right sized but definitely taller than average), but regular economy airplane seats are not designed for people that tall. I hope you will always find someone to switch seats with you tallguy but, to be honest, I would not be the one giving up my seat. Despite just being 5'7" my legs, specifically my knees, need the extra room on long flights. And on short flights I don't even pay to get extra room. I just plop my butt in my seat for a few hours and I am fine

i didn't say never. i said i could not imagine it. in 2016, i could not imagine an electorate stupid enough to permit the commander in thief to become president.
now, i can readily imagine it. i can even IMAGINE it happening again.
so, yes, when your situation changes, so does your imagination. Let's get something straight: unless there is a drastic change in the "sheeple" not only can it happen again, it WILL happen again. Now whether it will be the orange paint addict or one of his (potentially even worse) followers who would get into the WH I can't say, but it will happen and it will be bad!

TheOtherMe I know you don't want to have a "keepsake" of what is going on but maybe it would be a good idea to document what has happened and has been fixed in case you ever want to sell this place. Just put whatever photos you take where you won't run into them but where you can find them if needed.

i have never flown business class . i can't imagine doubling my ticket price for extra legroom and meals. it is ridiculous, imo. i can use that money for expensive dinners, an extra night in a hotel, etc. it seems like business class is just a way of waving around your wallet to me. nothing i have ever wished to do. Meh, my older bones now demand economy plus on long flights. Meals, who cares but I can easily see how one day, in the not too far off future, I will need the extra legroom and lie flat chairs to accommodate my really old bones on an 11 or even 17 hour flight. Never say never!

You're right. I should have said fined. Contempt of court fine? A cease and desist order? Trump is ignoring the gag order because it violates his 1st amendment rights. I don't think there are first amendment rights for talking smack about the judge's children. Gag orders are common and are usually limited to talking about that case and the participants. A regular thing which of course Trump wants to ignore because he needs to beat his victim chest and give his minions targets to harass. Would you be so gung ho on his right to talk smack about people if you and your family were targets? And he would be such an easy target considering his stance on "illegals" and the fact that Rip's DIL* once was one of them... For the record, I have nothing, zip, zilch against Rip's DIL but the double standard runs deep in the man.

Washington Post article. The deeply silly, extremely serious rise of ‘Alpha Male’ Nick AdamsMeet the Trump-backed raconteur who is teaching America’s young men the art of being hard to deal with Nick Adams was speaking to the men in the room. “Never apologize,” he said. “Never mask up. Never pick up the Fortnite controller. It starts with the Fortnite controller and boneless chicken wings, and ends in gender pronouns and communism. We don’t want that.” “Damn right!” a young man in pleated khakis yelled. “Damn right, we don’t want that.” The crowd chuckled. The affirmation was jokey, but serious — fitting for Adams, a happy culture warrior whose weapon of choice is not a video game controller but an X account, “Nick Adams (Alpha Male),” where he professes his love for Hooters, makes goofy claims like how billionaire pop superstar Taylor Swift is only dating NFL tight end Travis Kelce because she wants a piece of his $70,000 Super Bowl bonus check, and posts videos about boycotting Mars candy because M&M’s had committed “egregious sexism” for having all-female packaging. He calls his fans Nick Adams Disciples, or “Nads.” On this occasion, the burgeoning Nads were young Republicans. They had gathered at the Capitol Hill Club to drink cheap beer, in a room decorated with porcelain elephant statues and photographs of President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Sen. John McCain, and listen to a well-built man with a five o’clock shadow and an Australian accent tell them that “‘nasty women’ are coming for two things: your mind and your testicles!”In a Trumpified GOP, and a Trumpified Washington, the answer is yes. He is a presidential appointee to the board of Washington’s Woodrow Wilson Center, which, according to its website, “provides nonpartisan counsel and insights on global affairs to policymakers.” Donald Trump, who bestowed him with that honor during his last term, has recently made Adams an official campaign surrogate as the former president attempts to regain control of the White House. Rest of article here: The deeply silly, extremely serious rise of ‘Alpha Male’ Nick AdamsFor the record this NastyWoman would rather count her toes over and over again to make sure I still have ten than waste my time going after the non-existing brains and/or testicles of NADS. What an idiot and what idiots these "Alpha males" are to even just listen to this nonsense

Severe weather cancellations for tomorrow. I was planning to go into the office again tomorrow, but I'll have to wait and see. Depending on when the weather moves in I may be better of WFH tomorrow. The problem is, school is closed tomorrow. Which means DH and Kiddo will both be home tomorrow. Bothering me all day long. While DH is usually pretty good at remembering I'm actually working, I think Kiddo distracts him. Next thing I know he's like 5 minutes into a 10 minute conversation with me and I have no idea what he is talking about. Because I wasn't listening to him. I was working! Brooks will be glad to have them both home tomorrow. They both spoil that darn cat. Whatever you do, stay safe please

I am sorry you have to deal with this BS. And I am so delighted that you are teaching your daughter the important lessons about her power over her body, and how to appropriately address the issues. I remember as a girl being told that boys pulling my hair, or shoving me, or even grabbing my breasts was "cute" and a sign that they liked me. It's also incredibly important for boys to learn from a very early age that no does mean no in every way. That seems odd to say about elementary age children, but nowadays puberty can start at 11 or 12. I struggle a lot with trying to figure out when I should step in on her behalf or not. Because I really wanted to get up and tell that little boy to keep his grubby little paws off my daughter. And while that certainly would have made an impression on him, I didn't do that because I wasn't convinced that was the right answer. He does know I saw him do it. The second time he did it I gave him the evil eye. I figured that was the least I could do since getting up in the middle of class to dress down someone else's kid didn't seem like the best idea. Despite how I felt about it. If he does it again she knows to cause a scene. Draw attention to the bad behavior. From there, her instructors will deal with it. But she has to call the behavior out because these kids do all this when the instructors can't see them. If that little boy is going to make her uncomfortable, then she needs to make the entire room uncomfortable. That means throwing decorum out the window and saying no and being as loud and as obnoxious as she can be. So far, nobody has come with the "boys will be boys" excuse. Unfortunately, I do get that vibe from this boy's parents. I hope I'm wrong. It's not a small thing that should be minimized. It's something that needs to be taught, learned, and corrected while these kids are young. No excuses for the behavior. Correct it so they can do better when they grow up. As the mother of two ,now adult, boys I have to point out that this goes for all kids regardless of gender. I definitely taught my kids the no means no thing but I was always afraid that one day they would snap. They were tall (98 - 99 percentile ) and very strong so they could easily have hurt someone or just plain got in trouble. The incident that stands clearest in my mind is when I got a call that DS2 got suspended from the schoolbus because he had pushed a girl. The girl was a lot smaller than he was though she was a year older. What the bus monitor had not seen, or not reported who knows, was that the girl had been pinching and punching DS2 for several days on the bus. The other kids knew though and they went together to the office to tell what happened. By the time I got to school (Bangkok, big traffic jams) I was told it was all cleared up and son was back on the bus. The girl had been "addressed". Now did she get suspended? Nope she got a talking to and that was it. Unfortunately the kid lived in the same building we did so they still had to go on the bus together. They just kept them separate. And I did talk to the parents, which the school did not do, but I don't know if they ever did anything with it. The double standard displayed still pisses me off to this day* In other words all kids need to be held to the same standard. No boys will be boys or girls will be girls. *ETA: I absolutely do carry grudges for a loooooong time. DS2 was around 8yo at the time. He just turned 42yo

Money spent. New range will be delivered on Wednesday. This is easier, though far more expensive, than buying new shoes

I had a phone conversation with a recruiter this morning. The job is half the miles than current job. Travel time 23 minutes compared to 55 minutes as iwould be going against traffic. Hybrid role, 2 days in office and 3 work from home. Current job is 1 day in the office and 4 days work from home. Small local company. There are 200 employees compared to 12,000 at current company. Retirement account 401k with 3% match versus current 5% match. Healthcare benefits are similar. PTO is 18 days compared to 27 + 5 you can buy current company Pay. From 70K to 110K per year. Recruiter said I could get 95k, maybe even 100k but not sure. No bonus. Current compensation 85k includes bonus I was very enthusiastic at first but now that I'm writing it down doesn't look that great anymore. I feel ill be happier in a smaller company environment. Compensation is higher but PTO is really low. I mentioned my trip to Uruguay already booked for Dec. Jan. Recruiter said that should not be an issue. Recruiter wants to set up an interview. I told him I'll think it over and let him know tonight. Thoughts? I would do the interview. Time is ticking at your current place Ava. While it has been wonderful to have the vacation that you have at this company unfortunately it is not the reality at most places. I would not risk staying where you are holding out for a similar vacation policy.
That being said it is something you can negotiate the worst they say is no. Same with retirement. The fact they are willing to agree to a month long vacation in December is a good sign. I would at least go and hear what they have to say and even if his position didn't work out there is always the possibility they remember you for other positions. ETA: and it's good practice. I am a lot less stressed when I already have a job and this is a position I am somewhat "meh" about but keeping an open mind. I don't lose anything by going to the interview. I potentially stand to gain though so it's worth it. . Also keep in mind that your current vacation situation can change any moment since you have been acquired by a much larger entity. I don't know what the corporate standard is but I would look it up if I were you. I doubt it is what you have now. Add to that the fact that you feel management is hostile towards you and I see every reason to at least go for the interview. As for the lower match: stick your additional salary into a Roth IRA and you'll more than make up for it.

I need to buy a new range - preferably tomorrow - my oven refuses to neat up properly (needs to be set to 495° to reach 425°) and it doesn't ho!d its temperature either. The cook top still works fine so if it takes a few weeks before delivery that is no big deal. Not that I will tell them that. That is just for me to know. I had hoped the thing would hold out for a few more years until I would be closer to selling the place but no such luck.

Lord. As a birthday gift my brother suggested we help with getting business insurance for his new venture. The seismic shift I just felt was probably my dad's head exploding. If you can't come up with $150 maybe going into business isn't for you.🤷♀️ \ I can't even. That and his $50,000 inheritance. Well duh! His "inheritance" is his start up capital. You can't expect him to waste that on insurance can you now?

I am having bacon for the first time this year. And now I remember why I don't buy bacon regularly. I was was going to freeze the rest of the package but I doubt that will happen. Its siren song is too strong and I have no self control regarding bacon.....

I was thinking the same thing. Who do I report it to? Fire department? If you can't get out via the stairs and you can't use an elevator in case of a fire that has to be a disaster waiting to happen?

Surgeon son now lives back in California. He has a phone app that notifies about 5 seconds prior to an earthquake. About 3 months ago he was operating and the app goes off. He said OR team just looked at each other not sure of what to do. It was only a minor quake but he said they need to update procedures for the OR. The hospital is already earthquake‘hardened’ to be up and running even with a ‘big one’ I have that same app. It is not quite perfected yet but I hope it will be over time. Then all I have to worry about is keeping my phone on me all the time and that will be a big change. Currently I play "Where is Waldo my phone"all the time when at home

Just thinking back to the day after J6 when several members of the Republican party came forward and stated that Trump was responsible for what happened. Remember that feeling they were finally seeing what he was capable of doing. The hope I held that the country would be rid of him. Yeah I remember that and how Trump quietly left DC rather than attend Biden’s inauguration, slinking back down to Mar a Lago, seemingly with no friends in the world except Neo Nazis, thinking maybe I would never hear his voice or see his face ever again. Then almost immediately the GOP cowards started scuttling down to pay homage again- so disappointing. I used to sometimes vote GOP - not sure I will ever again. To paraphrase the wolf Little Red Riding Hood: "to better steal classified documents" would be my guess

Some grouchy Friday observations: 1) i had an 8:15 am appointment with the ophthalmologist. While I did set up the appointment myself I really am not in favor of getting up early because later appointments mean there is no parking available and I hate circling parking lots 2) it was 75° on Tuesday. They forecast mid 80s for the middle of next week. Yet here I am under a throw because today the high will only be in the mid fifties. Make up your mind already. I neither need those 80s coming in, nor the 50s we have right now - with showers to boot 3) I saw this morning that gas here is once again over $5/gallon. That has to hurt for those who have been ordered back into the office...
I better get another cup of coffee. Maybe that will put me in a better mood. If all else fails....extra chocolate surely will do the trick.

Earthquake sounds were terrifying here about 40 miles from center I thought it was a bomb or tree fell on our house. No damage but I’m still shaking We’ve had minor rumbles from the Ramapo fault but nothing like this Wondering where the fault is and hoping no aftershocks I thought of you once I saw the epicenter was in NJ. I bet it felt crazy where you are. My anxiety spiked and I'm still coming down. * West Coast laughs in Richter scale *Yes but it is still a bit disconcerting. And this quake brings to mind that it is not just us here in CA that are way overdue for a "big one". The New Madrid fault line is way overdue as well and when that one goes it will be really nasty. Terra non-firma is a fact of life unfortunately.

Today is a blah day. Rainy, dark, relatively cold ( low 50s as opposed to Tuesday's 76°). And tomorrow will not be much better. It is time it stops raining and my perfect spring weather with sunshine and low to mid 70s temperatures comes back and STAYS back. Right - I did not sign up for this 😆 We should get a discount on our taxes for non-delivery of promised beautiful weather. Just sayin'

Trying to cool my body down. We just got back from an excursion to My Son Temple near Da Nang and it was HOT. Between TD and I, we guzzled 6 bottles of water and were utterly drenched in sweat. The hike to the temple wasn’t bad, but the heat made it utterly miserable. Guide said it was 40° out, and my brain is too fried to make the calculation to F. We went to Marble Mountain, and a marble shop. There were some gorgeous carvings, including 2 beasts I’d have liked to bought and put by the front door. TD put the kibosh on that…..party pooper! Next we went to China Beach. OMG! I could have spent all our time in Vietnam here. It was a perfect white sand beach, that was not wall to wall bodies. So beautiful. Had a Vietnamese lunch, which included a whole chicken…including the head. Someone grabbed it thinking it was just a piece of chicken, until they looked at it closely. So 3 bottles of water, and now 2 cans of soda and I still haven’t peed. I’m thinking I’m wearing that liquid! And this is why I now take electrolyte powder on my trips to SE Asia. When we visited Angkor Wat years ago I could literally wring my t-shirt out (over the sink) yet I was dizzy from dehydration...

Now this is a lawsuit filed by the orange paint addict himself but it fits nicely in with the discussions: news.yahoo.com/trump-sues-truth-social-co-003924976.htmlI guess he is trying to limit his losses by increasing his number of shares? Anyway, the defendants really should have paid more attention to the meaning of "with friends like this..."

I was quoting a starter home, not median, but I hope we're not moving toward Seattle's cost of living. In most of the city you cannot buy a vacant lot for $450,000, if you can even find one. Only in the poorer south end do you even have a shot. I just did a Zillow search for single-family houses for sale in Seattle with a maximum price of $450,000. There were seven results. The only one over 560 sq. ft. is advertised as a full rehab or teardown. Five were houseboats. Some were under 200 sq. ft. Good luck there. I just looked up the median price of a house here -> it is well over 7-figures. I just got lucky when I bought my condo so long ago.

So the median price for a house in my state is 275K. CNN says it takes a salary of 80K to afford a home. I laugh at them. A mortgage with PITI and a 10% down payment is going to run 2K a month. By the time you take out for (modest) taxes, 15% retirement contribution, and things like health insurance, one should be netting about 4,667. There is no way in hell I would ever take a 2K mortgage on that net a month. If you have a kid in daycare, that would be another 1000-2K/month full time. I would like to know what magic CNN folks can conjure up to be able to pay for EVERYTHING else (car(s), food, clothing, utilities) on 600-1600 a month. I had more than half of my net income going to the mortgage for years...many years. Not fun, but not necessarily financial suicide either.
but...I did manage to pay off my 30 year mortgage in 10 years and 9 months and it sure felt good to be done with it no matter how un-YMAM that was

I just took a huge load of stuff to Goodwill. That is at least five good sized moving boxes that will not come along with me when I move. As I keep reminding my family - for most of my adult life I/we moved every couple of years and those moves always led to decluttering. I have now lived 20 years (the longest anywhere in my life) in this condo and no moving = no decluttering. So while I keep getting rid of stuff I have a very, very long way to go.
