Think of how fantastic you'll feel when it's done NastyWoman ! Crazy thought ... could you ask one of your sisters to come and help you? Maybe plan a short trip together for afterwards?

TheOtherMe that's great news about the front patio! I know it's hard but it sounds like they're working pretty quickly. Iggy aka IG great job on the office space! You're getting so much done! finnime my DH has a CPAP ... we bought a nice wooden stool for it to live on. Maybe you could add a nightstand with shelves or drawers for the supplies? Or a nice stool and a decorative basket for the supplies? (I don't know how voluminous the supplies are.) I'm glad you can do it at home when the time comes. We had a wonderful day in town for DH's birthday with DS3 and A. DS2 met us for dinner. I'm very happy to be home tomorrow.

Folx also mentioned that doing all the work "under the table" might not give lark1964 the necessary guarantees she needs to have after the work is completed. What if something is done badly, and there is nothing in writing?! But also, since when has everybody needed to be in agreement on anything here?! As we all like to quip, personal finance is personal. I think people just want Lark to be cautious, because we are all aware that she HAS had a VERY hard time of it recently, and we care about her. Rukh O'Rorke I agree, it would be good if you could get some traction going so your money goes further going forward. Even 5K would do it!

Knee Deep in Water Chloe it is WONDERFUL to see that you are finally feeling a bit more like your old self. I WFH all day today, same tomorrow. This morning I realized that guests will be staying in DS2's bedroom/DH's office so I changed/washed the bedding. PLEASE DON'T QUOTE THISWe'll have 10-12 people staying this week (but not all week). DH's birthday is Wednesday, so DS3+ A arrive late Tuesday night. DS3's best friend T's birthday celebration is this weekend. T followed DS3 to the UK, and a bunch of their friends are coming over to celebrate T's birthday at EuroDisney this weekend. T's family lives in an apartment, and her granddad is there now. So we're hosting the overflow of T's friends. Then DS1/DDIL/E/I arrive on Friday. ETA: We consider T our fifth child, she's ALWAYS welcome here! But that's a LOT of people LOL.

I'm WFH Monday and Tuesday, but I don't have school next week. DS2 is coming for a BBQ tomorrow, then DS3+A arrive late Tues for DH's birthday on Wed. DS1/DDIL/E/I come back on Friday and stay the weekend. It'll be a very full house! I'm trying to get all the "little things" done this weekend. DH did a big grocery shop today. Our new vacuum finally arrived! We put the other partly-broken one into recycling.

Hurray ners ! We are getting a small tax refund this year, which is much nicer than owing $6000 last year. It's estimated at $2,350. We haven't finalized a plan for that yet.nikiz628 Menards is your lowest balance and highest interest rate. And you'd still have about $100 left over for a nice treat. I hope the money from your DH's side job comes in soon!

DH is out so I wrapped his birthday presents. I put a few boxes in recycling. Glad that's done. I also mended one of his sweaters.

Work week over. This was the last week I'll ever have classes at both Job 1 + 2. We have a quiet weekend planned before the kids start arriving next week.

That's moving really fast TheOtherMe ! The faster it starts, the faster it ends lol. I'm glad you're giving yourself a break startsmart . So glad things worked out so well with L Iggy aka IG ! Seems like the best of both worlds ... you still have help, but you're also saving money. snapdragon can you use a fire pit for papers instead of a shredder? It's a lot more fun LOL. Sharon I too LOVE reading your posts!!! The good news is, yesterday was the end of Sem 2 at Job 1. The bad news is, tomorrow is the start of the Summer Term at Job 2. Happily it's only 4 classes over 5 weeks. I'm still hesitating about next fall, but this is DEFINITELY my last spring sem/summer term!!!

So I tutored my neighbor ... his level is good! Then his mom called to tell me his Cover Letter is due tonight ... but I can work on it!
I said, um, no I can't. I'm 64, I've been at work since 9 am, it's now 8.30 pm, and I'm not editing or proofreading ANYTHING this evening. I can do it tomorrow. She said no, tomorrow is too late. I said, what a shame you chose to wait till the last minute.
Seriously, WTF is wrong with people?!

DS1 and DDIL signed the first set of papers for the house last week. (There are two signings here, a few months apart.) They want a LOT from our basement ... a single trundle bed, our old DR table, a dresser, two bookshelves, a desk, and more. I'm thrilled! DH wants to put a tool bench in the basement. I said no problem ... AFTER the kids take their stuff, and AFTER you sort YOUR stuff. He agreed! Hopefully this will motivate him. IF it happens, I'd like to move our pantry from the second basement room to the first. The kids plan to take everything this summer, but DH will still need to go through his Stuff. DS1 will also take his bed from the guest room. That's fine, it's his! But we'll need to replace it.

I just finished the new book of short stories by Margaret Atwood (who wrote The Handmaid's Tale). The stories are fictionalized, but they're clearly autobiographical. In one story, she talks about needing to clear out the house after her husband dies. In another story, she talks about going to her parents' old summer cabin with her sister and trying to get rid of some things (ie footwear full of mice nests and droppings). They send a photo of the mice-infested footwear to their brother (the third sibling) saying they're getting rid of it. He responds, no, don't throw throw anything out without me seeing it first.
Those two stories made me think of this thread LOL.

Either way, I think it is savings. If it's not spending, and it's not savings, what else would it be?NastyWoman I agree with seriousthistime on this. It's still there and accumulating, so to me, it's savings. I know you're frugal, but you may decide it's worth flying business or economy plus at some point, especially since you don't fly very often.

seriousthistime yes it's totally possible that she was just caught off guard! I don't think her reaction was malicious. It was awkward though. DS3 + A have an big Ikea wardrobe with a closet organization system. They're very happy with it. There is a configurator on the Ikea website so you can try out different options. There is NO wasted space. I assume the configurator works on closets too.

That's so cool, to live in a place where you see deer snapdragon ! Rukh O'Rorke you sound SO stressed. I hope things calm down for you soon. I think you could grow Rukh Inc if you had the time and the mental bandwidth, but I know it's hard to give up your steady paycheck. But it's difficult to do both at the same time. A neighbor I'm not close to asked me to tutor her son for an online interview for a semester abroad at a US university. I wasn't thrilled but I said yes. We're not close, so when she asked me what I charge, I told her. It'll only be 2 or 3 sessions. DS3 used to babysit for her kids. She asked how/what he's doing. I said he's doing very well! He and his partner bought a tiny flat in London, and they both work for the UK government. She said oh wonderful! So he has a girlfriend now! I said no, he has a boyfriend. Very Long Pause, and a lot of sputtering before she repeated weakly, "oh how nice". Her discomfort was very audible, and it cracked me up LOL.

We went out tonight to see a friend's concert. No other plans for this three-day weekend. It's cold here again but as long as it isn't raining hard, I'm planning to walk 5K steps at least one of the next three days ... ideally two. I'll do Shitepile tomorrow. I've kept it pretty much up-to-date, so it shouldn't take long. ETA: I'm also trying to tackle a bunch of administrative tasks. I get EXTREMELY stressed out by those. Some are hard, some are easy. I did N°1 (very hard) in Feb/March. I did N° 2 (very easy) in March. I'd like to do N° 3 (medium) in April. DH has to do his too, so we'll do it together. April will be VERY busy here between work and kids coming and going, but I'd like to get it done in April. We'll see. We'll look at it this weekend.

DS1/DDIL/E/I arrived on Wednesday evening. I drove them to the airport this morning. They'll be back again for the weekend in two weeks so I didn't wash their bedding. The house seems so quiet lol. Just catching up on laundry today. Happy for the long weekend.

She said kinship care is more time and paperwork but I also think it has benefits like state insurance and other resources.
Cynic that I am, I can't help but wonder whether that really means kinship care would entail more work for her, while temporary guardianship would mean less ...

You are nothing short of amazing azucena . I wondered if bonus teen was causing YD stress because her big sister is less available, but it sounds like that's absolutely NOT the case. I think it's good that you remind YD that SHE is the priority. Even though your heart is CLEARLY big enough for all three.

Good for you Iggy aka IG ! I was at school today, so that's always 5K-6K steps. That's enough for me ... my problem is the days I WFH. That's actually another reason I've continued to go into school. I started doing yoga once/week in Jan. If I keep that up and do 5K steps 3 other days/week, I'll be very happy. I'm hoping to add a Zumba class in Sept, but that'll depend on how much I work. That's still to be determined LOL.

Congrats on the weight loss Iggy aka IG ! And on getting so much done! snapdragon I sympathize! We walked over 6 miles (14,000 steps) every day we were away. It nearly killed me lol. That's why I was comatose yesterday after we got back ... With spring coming, I'd like to get in the habit of walking more.
