She said kinship care is more time and paperwork but I also think it has benefits like state insurance and other resources.
Cynic that I am, I can't help but wonder whether that really means kinship care would entail more work for her, while temporary guardianship would mean less ...

You are nothing short of amazing azucena . I wondered if bonus teen was causing YD stress because her big sister is less available, but it sounds like that's absolutely NOT the case. I think it's good that you remind YD that SHE is the priority. Even though your heart is CLEARLY big enough for all three.

Good for you Iggy aka IG ! I was at school today, so that's always 5K-6K steps. That's enough for me ... my problem is the days I WFH. That's actually another reason I've continued to go into school. I started doing yoga once/week in Jan. If I keep that up and do 5K steps 3 other days/week, I'll be very happy. I'm hoping to add a Zumba class in Sept, but that'll depend on how much I work. That's still to be determined LOL.

Congrats on the weight loss Iggy aka IG ! And on getting so much done! snapdragon I sympathize! We walked over 6 miles (14,000 steps) every day we were away. It nearly killed me lol. That's why I was comatose yesterday after we got back ... With spring coming, I'd like to get in the habit of walking more.

Lots of progress here!
We just got back from three nights away ... DS2's Christmas present to DH and me. I unpacked, and started the laundry. I'm happy but exhausted lol.
Tomorrow I'll finish the laundry and start marking the videos I got last week. I want to finish on Mon. I'm working Mon am/Tues + Wed all day. DS1 + Co arrive Wed eve for two nights.
Our vacuum cleaner died. We have another old one that works badly, so I ordered a new one on Amazon (35% off). The broken one fit into the local small appliance recycling bin. Once the new one arrives, I'll recycle the other old one too.

Oh no finnime ! I'm sorry you both got sick, but so glad the show went well! Did you get the email addresses of the people you gave coupons to? You could always contact them again in the fall. The coupons sound like a great idea! I have a Zoom class tomorrow morning, then this week is over! I'm not used to teaching at school two days/week anymore.

Yesterday we ran a lot of errands, including going to the motorcycle store 30 min away so DH could get a new jacket. He got me a new helmet (they need replacing every few years). So no plans for today. I'm doing an extra half day at Job 2 this week (at school), but it's much less than I did last week. I should be at 10-12h/week for the rest of the semester (7 weeks), which is fine.

Tomorrow I'll: - catch up on paperwork DONE - do laundry DONE - work out/input marks DONE - book a hotel for a short getaway with DD - go to the local bookstore for more folders DD texted last week, so when are we going to X (region of France that DD has NEVER mentioned)? I said, let's talk this week and see if we can make it work. It looks like we can!

The LR rug came today. We are very happy with it! It goes just under the front feet of the couches, so I don't have to worry about tripping over the LR rug anymore. Iggy aka IG so glad it worked out so well with L! I'm sure you're relieved. Always so good to hear from you moneysquirrel . snapdragon landscapers can make such a big difference! I'm glad you found somebody good. We had ours in for the first time since before Covid last month. It made a huge difference. I had Book Club tonight. I hate going out because it takes me HOURS to wind down. I start late but I'll be on Zoom again for 5-6h tomorrow, doing interviews with one of my professor students for her program. It's the worst week of the semester for me. I'm looking forward to tomorrow evening!

Do you guys also have to mail in your current passport? That's what scares me ... What if I need to travel to the US or the UK for a funeral or an emergency?!
I've done it each time I've renewed in the past, but everybody is older now... that worries me.
I guess there's no choice, and we all have to just hope for the best.

From what I saw, you have to start over if your passport was issued more than 15 years ago. But again, I don't know if I have different rules/procedures as an expat.
ETA: I'll probably renew immediately after our trip to London in mid Oct.

For snapdragon and Iggy aka IG and Knee Deep in Water Chloe who are planning to request or renew your passports, I encourage you to do it ASAP. I use a different process (I think). Here they say it's a 4-6 week delay for a renewal, it's probably longer for a first passport. I am torn on whether to do it now or wait till after the summer. I'll probably wait till after the summer but I DO worry about possibly needing to travel for my sister's elderly BF, my dear friend with ALS, and DH's very elderly aunt. It just doesn't seem smart to apply for a new passport before summer given that mine expires in May 2025. I may email the US consulate here to ask for their advice.

My 9.30-11 Zoom tomorrow just told me she has an unexpected meeting till at least 10.30. She's hoping to do the last half hour, but she'll text me at 10.30 to let me know. There is a 48h cancellation policy for these lessons. She said she knows it's very last minute, so obviously she'll sign the timesheet for the scheduled time. Some people quibble about the time ... hey, it's not coming out of your pocket! Thankfully I have very few that quibble. (I would probably d.ump those who did.) I am VERY flexible, that's part of my added value. If I can schedule another class the same week, I do! This week, I can't. Happily she didn't ask. Now I can set my alarm for 1h later tomorrow.

Lincoln is adorable startsmart ! He looks like an old soul lol. The new LR rug arrives tomorrow. It's the same as the old one, just a bit bigger. I wanted a bigger one because I kept tripping on the old one. DH and I put the old rug in the DR.

Iggy aka IG I figured that when you were recently considering moving ... Since you get along well with L, can you be frank with her, and tell her that you expect her not to respond to Nosy Nancy's questions? I'd also have no problem confronting Nosy Nancy to ask why she is asking L all these questions, but I understand that can be difficult. I'm sure you'll find a solution.

Iggy aka IG would it help to keep her, but take her less often (even as of Oct)? Other thought ... could you go to your office before she comes? Would that help with the gossiping issue? I hope the turmeric helps. FYI a lot of Indian dishes use it. We make a dahl (lentil) recipe that uses it.

That's a very interesting take seriousthistime . Makes sense! Sometimes I find it's practical when people think we don't have extra money lol. Laundry caught up before a very busy week. I'm doing an extra half-day for 3 of the next 4 weeks. This week it's on Zoom. The other two weeks it's at Job 2. With these (temporary) extra hours I want to give up my regular classes next semester. TheOtherMe I still wear a mask on public transport/Eurostar/flights. That could be an option, if you decide the drive is too arduous. My lungs are fragile from smoking. I get sick much less often now. ETA: I realized the rug was actually 23% off! It was 10% off, then DH signed up to get an additional 15% off the sales price.

Iggy aka IG it doesn't sound strange to me. I'd hate the gossiping too. I'd just mention that you're thinking about retirement and you'd rather save the money to pay off debt, or for later. Keep it simple. You could even just say that these days you can't really afford a cleaner anymore, without going into any more detail. Few people push back when you tell them you can't afford something (but some do, alas). She may also respond by offering to come less often ... that would help with the money aspect, but the nosy neighbor would still be there. My sister once told me, things can be hard for 15 min (giving somebody difficult news), or they can be hard for a lot longer (when we chicken out). Good luck. These conversations are difficult, but you can do this.
