Was up too late last night watching volleyball and then we lost. Bed is changed. One load of laundry is in dryer and another in washer. There's frost on all the roofs of the houses and it's chilly in here because I keep my heat at 64. Have to start cleaning for the cleaners, who come next Friday. My lady Huskers volleyball team won last night. However, I didn't stay up to watch it to the end.

Today is our first below 40 day so I took some stew meat from the freezer yesterday. Will toss all the goodies in the crock pot when I return home from a Dr. appt. this morning.

The advertising for MA plans is tempting, but if people read the fine print, they would see all the restrictions. Nothing could budge me from my Medicare and ChampVA for my supplement.

I have an Ameritrade CC that is connected to my brokerage accounts. It' pays 1.5% on everything. I recently changed my 20 y/o Citi CC to the double cash back. I receive 1% for everything I change and 1% for everything when I pay my bill. Nice was to make 2%.
Both cards work well for me.

It's 85 today and the AC has been running day and night for months. I'd love to have it cool down enough to turn it off.

It's been A/C weather so far and the next 10 days should be highs in the mid 80s. NW Ark trees are still green and the grass is still being cut.

Money squirrel, funny how living in different parts of he country changes our spending. I'm in the soup making mode (sorta) due to filling the freezer for this winter. I also need to buy another set of Rubbermaid 1C containers to put the soup in.
So far this month I've spent $41 on gasoline, and won't fill up till Oct. 1. My tank is almost a 30 gal so it takes a lot if I let it get to empty.
I have the salt for driveway and sidewalk leftover from last year as I didn't have much of a winter. I also need to have the HVAC guy out for furnace checking. Also need to have the gas fireplace guy here to light pilot and double check for safety. Put my electric blanket on the bed in a few weeks and I'm ready.
on edit: Guess I made a good decision to call the fireplace guy now....Oct. 14 is the day. Hope it stay warm till then.

Thanks for the update.....I have YNAB 4 on my old laptop so if I can't still use it like I do after the Apple change, it still might be usable for me.
I don't use it the way it's supposed to be: I have my budget listed, and I enter spending amounts when they occur.....that's it. I don't see any point to pay for something that overall I have no use for.

I decided yesterday that I have to enter the dreaded pantry and sort the stuff out. Cans of this and that for soup recipes I can't find, or wonder what I was thinking when I bought the stuff. It's a rainy day at least until sometime this afternoon, so I will tread cautiously and enter the pantry.
There shouldn't be anything in there that has expired as I did this job about 6 months ago, but I'll still donate everything to the church food bank.

I thought it was the date on the bottle which is when they filled it. Well, it wasn't or isn't Consider it a lesson learned. Just because you thought "it" it doesn't make it so.

Just a quick update. Had to fill up the car this week and a trip to Wally World to get some basics. Think another trip to the grocery is in store for this coming week or next week at the latest. Supplies in the freezer are getting pretty limited. With the tropics as active as they are I try not to put too many things in there at this time. My game is to fill my gas tank on the 1st and 15th of the month. Most times I succeed. Silly, I know

I've been doing really well this month. Everything I have spent has been budgeted for and I'm still way under my budget for the month. Of course, that can change in a heart beat, but so far so good.

I've never used YNAB the way it's designed. I simply use it as a way to see track of variable spending each month. Things that vary like groceries, gasoline, eating out etc. Guess I 'll have to figure out a new way since I also don't know how to use Excel. I'm fairly sure I'm not going to spend money to continue to use it.

I was just going to enter a transaction in my YNAB and up popped an information block. I couldn't get it copied/pasted, but the gist of it is that Apple is no longer going to not support something or other, therefore YNAB 4 will no longer be useful. YNAB will be happy to have us upgrade to the current prices and even better and graciously will give us a permanent discount on the cost.
This has something to do with those of us using Apple products (like my iMac), it said nothing about those using IE etc.
I may just have to really update Version 4 and use it on my old reliable HP laptop.
on edit: Here is the announcement:
YNAB 4 Classic | 32-bit Mac App
Apple has announced they will stop supporting 32-bit apps like YNAB 4 Classic in the future. MacOS Mojave (releasing in 2018) will be the last version of their OS to support these apps, including YNAB 4.
What does this mean for you exactly? YNAB 4 Classic should continue functioning for now, and will likely continue to work in the Mojave (10.14) OS for the foreseeable future. Updates after that will most likely not allow YNAB 4 to function, although we haven't been able to test that yet.
We’ve been happy to offer support for YNAB 4 Classic for over two years since our web launch, including an update in mid-2017 that allowed cloud sync to continue working. This change by Apple is not something we are able to work around or prevent, and YNAB 4 will not be updated to a 64-bit app (the new standard for Mac apps).
As a YNAB 4 user, you have a couple of options when Apple removes 32-bit support:
You can choose not to update your macOS (at least temporarily) and continue to use YNAB 4. You can check out the web app—and give it a whirl for 34 days for free to see if it’s right for you. If you would like to upgrade or learn more, this article goes over the new features, differences between the versions, and also links to step-by-step instructions on how to migrate your budget.

I am impressed with those of you getting free checks. This question isn't for those getting the bank to print them, etc. Those of you getting a free box, are you paying a monthly fee for the account? In my case no. I carry a high balance in checking and 2 savings account. Don't remember how much but it's enough to keep everything at no charge. And I do not have over draft protection. Haven't written a check that has bounced in about 50 years. Some banks however will offer senior citizen checking account for those 55 and over. Might be worth looking to that.

I forward all my landline calls to my cell phone. If I don't recognize the name or number I don't answer. If caller doesn't leave voice message (they never do) I block the number then delete. My caller ID list that is blocked by Verizon has to be in the hundreds.....ATT only allow 20 numbers to be blocked and all 800 # numbers are not blocked.

My end of month looks really good. I managed to have about $600 left to move into savings.
My one account that was so depleted in June is also now to its full amount. Overall, Ive managed to make some good decisions and keep my credit cards under control.

For a number of years DH and I stayed in high rise condos called Surf Club just south of St. Augustine in Palm Coast. Beautiful places and I'd hate to see it damaged.

As SS mentioned, I also use an older version of YNAB....# 4 in fact. I bought it about 5 years ago when it was on sale at a place called Steam. It's taken me awhile to get it the way I want it, but it works for me.
I'm also one of the guilty YMs that have my utilities on level billing. It only varies by a couple of dollars per month, and I appreciate that the summer bills are reasonable. It also helps that I know within a few dollars how much my bill will be each month.
As for my total monthly expenses, (I'm better than No Name) I live BELOW my means and transfer $5-600 per month into saving.

My 2 deposits occur on 1st of the month (VA disability) and my SS is on the 3rd Wednesday. Sometimes that Wednesday is as early as the 15th, but the next month the 3rd Wednesday might be the 21st.
All my utility bills are on auto pay and run from 5th of month to the 25 th of the month. My big yearly bills are handled by using a personal escrow account. Add up all your once a year bills, total it and divide by 12. Put that much aside each month to cover the bills when they come in.
I second YNAB.

So far this month I've spent $129. My budget total per month is $250 so I imagine I'll be able to stay under that.

Auto insurance renews this month along with car tag. I wonder if Sam's has any 50 lbs of rice left since I may be eating beans and rice this month. Are you admitting to us that you have failed at having a 2-3 year stock pile of food available in your basement? Shocked I tell you, shocked!!! Even if you don't have a basement, there must be a way you can achieve that goal/

I had a shopped salad for lunch topped with homemade chicken salad. Enough left for dinner tonight. I'm headed to the store shortly to get some fresh fruit, but I'm always leary of buying unripe melons and peaches etc. Maybe will only buy watermelon.
Going to stop for gas too as WMT has regular for $2.21.

I made my first pot of bean soup for this upcoming fall and winter. 10 individual containers are now in the freezer. I have 2 other recipes I usually make and will also buy 4-5 containers of Wendys chili for the freezer.
