I was just going to enter a transaction in my YNAB and up popped an information block. I couldn't get it copied/pasted, but the gist of it is that Apple is no longer going to not support something or other, therefore YNAB 4 will no longer be useful. YNAB will be happy to have us upgrade to the current prices and even better and graciously will give us a permanent discount on the cost.
This has something to do with those of us using Apple products (like my iMac), it said nothing about those using IE etc.
I may just have to really update Version 4 and use it on my old reliable HP laptop.
on edit: Here is the announcement:
YNAB 4 Classic | 32-bit Mac App
Apple has announced they will stop supporting 32-bit apps like YNAB 4 Classic in the future. MacOS Mojave (releasing in 2018) will be the last version of their OS to support these apps, including YNAB 4.
What does this mean for you exactly? YNAB 4 Classic should continue functioning for now, and will likely continue to work in the Mojave (10.14) OS for the foreseeable future. Updates after that will most likely not allow YNAB 4 to function, although we haven't been able to test that yet.
We’ve been happy to offer support for YNAB 4 Classic for over two years since our web launch, including an update in mid-2017 that allowed cloud sync to continue working. This change by Apple is not something we are able to work around or prevent, and YNAB 4 will not be updated to a 64-bit app (the new standard for Mac apps).
As a YNAB 4 user, you have a couple of options when Apple removes 32-bit support:
You can choose not to update your macOS (at least temporarily) and continue to use YNAB 4. You can check out the web app—and give it a whirl for 34 days for free to see if it’s right for you. If you would like to upgrade or learn more, this article goes over the new features, differences between the versions, and also links to step-by-step instructions on how to migrate your budget.

I seriously hate that YNAB is now subscription based, and I refuse to upgrade when the day comes that my windows YNAB4 is no longer supported. At that point, I'll create my own excel program to do what I need done (unless my house is built by then, at that point, I'll go back to my old ways of no-real-budget-just-save-off-the-top).
Sorry you're already at the decision making point.

Phooey!!!
I'll probably upgrade (they do offer a 10% lifetime discount for us YNAB4 users) but will do so kicking and screaming.
And if you are on Windows, they won't be able to support you... from the update: "If you’re on Windows, YNAB 4 will still work for now, same as always. But in both scenarios, if something goes wrong we just won’t be able to troubleshoot issues with you."
I knew it was just a matter of time, but hoped to continue as long as possible. I hate having to learn to use a new application... And I really dislike subscription based applications.

I've never used YNAB the way it's designed. I simply use it as a way to see track of variable spending each month. Things that vary like groceries, gasoline, eating out etc. Guess I 'll have to figure out a new way since I also don't know how to use Excel. I'm fairly sure I'm not going to spend money to continue to use it.

Well, I've been using their free trial and have mixed feelings: I do like the way they handle cc purchases and payments; it intuitively makes sense. I really dislike the way they show funds immediately available instead of letting you designate the funds for next month's budget. I found a work around from their forum, but dislike having to use a work around. I dislike the smaller font. I can change it on the desktop, but not on the ipad/iphone I dislike the fact that it is web based; I don't always have internet
I'll probably go ahead and make the change, but I really really like YNAB4. Why couldn't they just make YNAB4 64 bit and call it good?

Thanks for the update.....I have YNAB 4 on my old laptop so if I can't still use it like I do after the Apple change, it still might be usable for me.
I don't use it the way it's supposed to be: I have my budget listed, and I enter spending amounts when they occur.....that's it. I don't see any point to pay for something that overall I have no use for.

I switched over about 6 months ago. I like it. Because I had to download and then import from all my credit cards (8+) plus 6+ bank accounts not including retirement stuff and then match with the manual entries it was a pain in the ass and I never lasted more than a few months. With the cloud based version I linked all my banks/whatnot and it now updates whenever I open the app/browser. Because of this I now use it as the frequent checking to make sure nothing was hacked vs having to log into each one to check. So much easier! And it works so much better with credit cards that you pay off each month. I have to do nothing special. The only thing I don't like, is what what Gardening Grandma mentioned that there's no way to siphon off savings out of your budgeting money unless you want to put it in tracking or make savings a line item and put all the money in there. I'm too lazy to google a workaround though. Because of that I just ignore the "To Be Budgetd" line, but could see where that could be a problem for those that would see their savings included in that number and think they have a ton to spend.

Been playing with the “Goal” feature. I’m liking that a lot.
The workaround for next month’s income was actually quite simple. I created a category called “Next month’s income” and put the funds there. On Oct 1, I’ll zero out the category freeing up the funds to be budgeted. (Actually I already have Oct budgeted to the cents since I know ex@ctly how much our income is. It’s currently in red, but as soon as I zero out the “Next month’s income” category, it will be all allocated.

That sounds too complicated. But I don't like it when I go to a new place and have to assigned it a category before I approve it. Plus it kinda makes me feel rich as hell to have a 5 figure sum "to be budgeted"

With more warnings of losing YNAB support, and not willing to subscribe to the software, I'm currently building my own excel budget that will work very much like YNAB does. I think all I have left to figure out is how to make a "drop down list" for the categories, so that I can arrange the budget page by category and see what all has gone in/out of that line. I'll probably figure that out at work this weekend, I'm sure there is a tutorial video somewhere.
I won't have an app on my phone anymore, but I can add transactions in my notes to add to my budget when I get home and on my laptop.

It’s actually going OK. I began using the free trial mid Sep and now have subscribed (they offer a 10% lifetime discount to us YNAB4 users.) I do like the goal feature- Kudos to apple for creating her own excell sheet. I simplycannot do that and have the ease of input tracking spending. I’m also using the feature of downloading transactions. Makes it easy to keep accounts balanced

Thanks I started adding the lists and things this morning, then got to wondering how I'd handle transferring money from one account to another. Then I thought someone else has to have tried this before... They have. Someone has already written up a spreadsheet very close to what I was aiming for (Zer0), so I loaded that and will try moving my files into it tomorrow to see how it does. If it works as well as it looks like it will, I won't have to finish writing my own!
