I've never come across this before. Back on 8-15-19 my doctor gave me a prescription. 28 day supply. I went to Walgreens to fill it. There was a line and when it was my turn the pharmacist asked if I wanted to wait or come back in about 1hr. I said I'll come back. I went grocery shopping and went home with the food. I got busy and forgot to go back. Actually I forgot for 4 days. Oops. They filled it on 8-15-19 however I didn't pick it up until the 19th. This month I went for another refill. Even though this new RX refill from my doctor was issued on the 9-12-19, to my surprise I couldn't refill it until the 19th because I picked up the earlier RX on 8-19-19.
Apparently in the pharmacy world, the date you pick it up is the date that starts the refill clock. Not the date you fill it even though the date on the pill bottle says the date they filled it.
Very odd. I guess I'll wait next time.

I am surprised that you weren't allowed to fill it within the week before so that you would have your refill and would continue your medication without interruption.

I thought it was the date on the bottle which is when they filled it.

I thought it was the date on the bottle which is when they filled it. Well, it wasn't or isn't Consider it a lesson learned. Just because you thought "it" it doesn't make it so.

A few times I called to refill one or two days early and they asked if I was out because they could make an exception and give me some to carry me over.

Umm... seems to me the bigger problem is they gave you a 28 day supply and wouldn't refill it until 31 days passed.

My insurance allows refills after 75% of the prior prescription was used. I think it's based on date it says it's filled. I've always used that in my account versus the bottle so I'm not sure if they differ.

I use mail order for 90 day supplies because it's definitely cheaper for me that way. They email reminders when it's time to refill or I figure it out when the bottom of the bottle is starting to get near.
I know they take in to consideration processing and mail time and I think it is about 75% used when I can reorder.

My pharmacy uses the date it was picked up for the refill period. How soon it can be refilled is driven by my insurance, not the doctor.
