OOO message is on, and I know I'm logging in on Monday for a few minutes (I hope?) early afternoon after my colleague in Ireland chimes in on something I asked her about a week ago. I can't really throw stones as she sent me something around the same time, that I never saw either. but, the lack of an answer to my question is gonna prevent packaging of a product at risk of stockout. hers would create a quality systems deviation that I would own as the problem child. not really the same order of magnitude. right now, I'm waiting on my veggie lasagna to finish cooking. not gonna lie, I'm cutting into it before it really sets. I should have chopped everything over my lunch space-out sign off midday, but I threw the dogs in the car and literally just drove around exploring an area of town I don't know, for a solid hour and a half.

curious what the yogurt is for? Milanese as I grew up with (didn't actually like it til adulthood, though...) is a salad of arugula and tomato with shredded parmigiana, tossed with lemon, on top of fried cutlets of your choice. I add thin sliced red onion to my salad, b/c that's just a given for me but I'm curious what recipe you found. The recipe I found uses it in the lemon dressing....? Eggplant Milaneseoh! that makes sense, if you're gonna use a full-on dressing for the arugula salad. I've personally never seen it done as a dressing, just lemon juice, spices, and all of the veggies. I was trying to wrap my brain around why you'd be marinating eggplant in yogurt lol... definitely please report back how that recipe turned out!

good morning, happy Friday. one more day of bullshit before vacation, I can do this!
I woke up about an hour ago, from a very strange dream that I still can't quite shake. I was in an open office setup that resembled one of the spaces my team built at my first job. a shiny new construction office downtown, with so much glass. the rooms were packed with people from all my jobs in various functions, and my mother and sister for some reason. we were all awaiting severance package notifications as someone had let it slip that we were all being let go that day, before the new FY started the next day. I was freaking out bc I needed personal info off my laptop before I turned it in, and writing to USB was disallowed so I couldn't do it myself (this is actually the case with my current work laptop). there was an elaborate buffet set up, akin to those that were done at my first job for big meetings when the company was flush in the mid-00s. folks from that job were talking projects and manufacturing with folks from other jobs, and they all understood each other. it was bizarre.
no, I'm not burnt out on the work bullshit*. not at all. this vacation is very much needed.
*not the work itself. just the stupid garbage.

I picked up the pups a little early from daycare today, so that I could be home in time for EOB to take care of whatever came in while I was away, before EOB. both pups are already out cold. I'm going to have to wake them up for dinner. I'm glad I did this, because there a couple hot things I needed to sign off on, and I already know tomorrow's going to be crazy as my last day before vacation. I paused an episode of Bones as background noise before I left to go pick them up, and restarted it when I got home. Cyndi Lauper is guest starring as a tarot card reader who sends the Jeffersonian crew to find a dozen bodies buried under some park in the area, one of which is her sister. the musical break with the short clips of relevant activities was a Cyndi Lauper song. I don't think I've ever seen it before, but this is the one where the clairvoyant manages to convince Booth and Bones that they love each other.

same. my English teacher during the trial was also the HS football coach. he brought in a tv to have in his classroom during verdict watch. it was crazy.

I'm winding down finally, and I wanted to check back in. I got a late start on breading and frying tonight, so I ate while still cooking. OMG, eggplant Milanese was heavenly. 😍🤤 crispy yet light eggplant covered in a delish lemony arugula salad.
there's no way I could ever do this well for a group just based on logistics of frying eggplant in a home kitchen, but I can absolutely treat myself while cranking out holiday frying!
ETA: I figured out the next few days this morning. I didn't have any small containers of sauce in the freezer in order to make a small eggplant parm tray, so I pulled a large one. the large ones are enough sauce to cover a veggie lasagna and have a little extra for reheating. well, I thawed that this morning and "diluted" it with another can of crushed tomatoes. it's all simmering on the stove now. tonight will be eggplant parm and a salad, I'll put together the veggie lasagna tomorrow to pick from over the weekend. I just got back from a quick run for ricotta and the frozen spinach I always include in a veggie lasagna.

today was a good day. tons of progress in the backyard, with more work set for tomorrow. I might actually need one more pallet of sod, which is shocking. my backyard is way bigger than it felt with the weird surface changes.
I'm currently stretched out on my bed, watching the Sox/Os game with a cocktail. both pups are snoring in their respective beds, we did laat outs a half hour ago. I finally finished frying eggplant probably around 8pm? I packed it up for the fridge and left the old oil to deal with in the am. it definitely stinks like fry oil down the hall in my bedroom though, woof. 🤢 I'll open the windows again tomorrow to air stuff out.
7th inning now, and I'm turning the lights out once this is over. good night, kids!

a little over 1 full pallet of sod is all laid out, and the difference already is just amazing. the guys just ran out to grab some lunch and the pups have free reign of everything to sniff it all out while they are away. also, for the rest of you WFH, TNT has excellent background noise today. The Accountant just started, and Red is up next. you're welcome

thanks for asking, Iggy. I didn't end up making it b/c I needed my big fry pan to cook off some ground beef and kale for the pups. it's now the plan for tonight, and I'll report back tomorrow. the Milanese salad is the highlight of the dish for sure, I expect it will be delish.

I've heard quite a bit of rumbling about the fact that AT&T apparently knew about this years ago and said nothing. I see class-action lawsuits in their future. I mean, I will take discounts but I am on top of my account to make sure that I am paying the least that I have to for the service that I need. There was nothing they could offer me. I never get into the class action stuff because it is usually very little payoff and not worth my time, but I would be all over this. I have been a customer for over 25 years, and have never been so dissatisfied with their customer service. The only time I remember was after I got married and moved to another state (2009, already a customer for over 10 years - and the new state was within 15 miles of my old home) and they charged me $40 to change my number so that my kids could call without long distance from the landline. I paid it in the moment but reflected on the survey that I would rethink my options when my contract was due for renewal. They refunded my $40 and gave me $10 off my bill for the next year. And in the last couple of years I have been told by employees in the corporate store that I am considered a "high value customer". I should be - between cell, internet, and Direct TV I pay around $400/month - our mortgage is only $50 higher than that. I do not do well with bad customer service, so if class action happens I will be 100% onboard to make sure that they feel the pain that I have to. I get the same bullshit from the newspaper, as I've had Sunday delivery since 2006. so if I'm that valued, can you maybe figure out how to get me a newspaper consistently every Sunday?

He calls his fans Nick Adams Disciples, or “Nads.”OMFG I can't breathe. Has anyone informed him what that is slang for? I feel like it's evolved since the early 80s though hahaha

oh man, this brings back some memories. my dad is a construction foreman. when I was a kid, he was a piecework sheetrocker b/c that's where someone with his work ethic would just make bank. he had this t-shirt that I never saw after I asked about it when I was 5 or 6, but it had NADS across the top in an arc, with the acronym explained underneath. I actually just called him to ask about this one, and he couldn't remember it to tell me what it said. whatever it actually was, it was questionable enough to remove it from the rotation where a very impressionable parroting child like me would see it again.
I kind of want to know what it said now. lol...

y'all, thank you for all you've done for me over the years, IRT: beating the wisdom into me. old chiver would have just thrown it all on a card and called it good, and that's why I'm here. I'm getting twitchy about wiping out my HYSA to pay the landscapers this week, and I'm grudgingly going to eat some stupid-level interest on my daily user CC with the travel I've booked recently. so, I'm feeling better (as much as it sucks) about bailing on the week on the FL panhandle with the girls. condo is still in my name, but I've sold both my festival ticket and condo spot. I'll just pass along the door code when it comes in. whoo..... I've already mapped out how/when I'll be repaying what I've already taken from the HYSA in upcoming paychecks. and as I pulled the vacation time from that week back from the HR tracker, I decided to just take all of next week off instead of just W-F. Monday is Marathon Monday, and a longtime friend who is actually running will be coming down to visit Tuesday. my mom arrives early Wednesday morning, my flight is noon. M (not *that* M) will be heading out from my place to go visit more friends around here, she actually interned at the place I call my train wreck job and still has contacts around here. just ticking off the time til Friday 5pm so I can turn this damn laptop off for 10 days.

landscapers just left. today was a mostly quiet day, since they were able to get all the loam out of the driveway yesterday. no loud machinery until they took out the blowers and a gas-powered sweeper that looked like a riverboat wheel. mulch is spread where it's going, and 3 pallets of sod are getting delivered at 7am tomorrow. I just moved myself out to the deck, and have changed my shirt to a strapless beach coverup to get some direct sun while I can.

have you thought about PODS at all? I used them twice to move, pricing was reasonable. I paid a fee for each of pickup and delivery, and then the storage was $200/mo while I was actively storing.

so I got up and out of the house first thing to do a quick grocery run, mostly for pup stuff. imagine my surprise to see a rolled up newspaper in the driveway. I called the subscription office yesterday so I could actually speak to a person, and explained my ongoing frustration with my Sunday delivery. he opened another complaint and said he'd escalate it, whatever that actually means to them. at one point, he misunderstood and thought I have 7 day delivery, not just Sundays. so I figured maybe I got signed up somehow for 7 day delivery after that call, as an apology? idk. well, I opened the bag when I got back from the store - it's another copy of Sunday's paper. I'd still best be getting that credit.

I snacked this afternoon, which just f'd me up. I'm not travelling anywhere once I get back from vacation/work trip so I'll reset myself then.
tonight was a roasted diced russet, topped with a package of frozen cheesy broccoli and some canned chicken. the pups will take care of the rest of the can with breakfast.
tomorrow morning, I'm going to do a produce run before my landscapers show up. I parked my car in the driveway of an abandoned house across the street today, so I can't easily.just throw the pups in the car and go for a drive while they are here. but, I need shit. lol... I made a grocery list this afternoon, and clicked on the digital coupons. those don't show up til a few hours later, or I'd have gone tonight. it's fine though.
making the list, I decided tomorrow nights dinner - eggplant Milanese. very likely side would be prosciutto-wrapped asparagus for some protein.

Eating brats & burger while watching the Guardians home opener. since Terry retired at the end of last season, he's available to come back to Boston tomorrow for our home opener. it's the latest home opener this season. the Sox will be honoring both the 20y anniversary of us finally breaking the curse (in Terry's first year here) and the losses of Tim and Stacy Wakefield, and logistics magician Larry Lucchino in recent weeks. good luck to your crew this season.

I was a SAHM when I was married, and I did end up getting a couple of part time jobs at different times, just to have something to do besides be a wife and Mom. When my ex husband and I split, I got my first full time job. I didn’t mind working. To me, that’s what adults with responsibilities do, if they aren’t wealthy. Several years into working for my current employer, I started HATING my job, but I sucked it up because the pay was enough for me to provide a comfortable lifestyle for my children. I eventually worked on changing my perspective about my job, because the way I felt about it wasn’t good for me, and I was honest with myself about the fact that I wasn’t likely to leave it to work somewhere else. So I started reminding myself that my job wasn’t my life, it was just how I paid for my life. I would literally count the hours I worked, to know at what point in my workweek, I’d worked enough hours to pay all of the things that came out of my paycheck, and then the hours that I worked to pay my bills, until I finally got to the hours I worked during the pay period that put some money in my pockets that I could spend. Getting to and working the hours that put spending money in my pockets helped me change my perspective. But at this point in my life, I still have the same perspective even though I no longer count the hours like that, I am just OVER working. I am tired, my body is not all that happy from all the years of manual labor, and there are many things I could and would much rather do, than go to work every day. But I can’t just quit, working is how I am providing for my future self, so there is much more at stake, than just what I need today. Which means I need to work long enough to retire and have all of the benefits that come with that. Even if Mister and I were happily married, and he promised to provide for me if I stopped working and I believed him, I would still feel the same…. that I have to take care of my future self myself, by working until I can retire. If I already don’t want to work anymore now, I know damn well I don’t want to have to worry about having to work in my 60’s and 70’s because I made the mistake of depending on somebody else to provide for me. I don’t really like it, but that’s just how it is. I did not marry either of my children's fathers which is a blessing. Yes, I gave birth to 2 kids out of wedlock - 1 of which after the father and I had broken up. I was happily raising my kids without any support from their fathers. I really never thought that I would even live with a mate again, let alone marry. My dad had all girls and raised us to be able to take care of ourselves, without a man. I can appreciate that, but it also lends to why I have trust issues with men and why DH & I struggle with communication. That said, my perception has also changed. I worked to live for so long also and now I've moved to living to work. I like what I do now and I excel at it. Still working towards retirement but my need is not so strong now. each of my parents contributed in their own way (and jointly) to me being independent and single at 45. for example, Dad ensured I learned to drive a stick shift, so I would never be stuck somewhere with am incapacitated driver. Mom ensured that I set boundaries (and gave me reasons to not feel guilty about moving where i always wanted to...)when she threw out college brochures from any places out of state, so she could keep me closer to home. their highly codependent and yet still dysfunctional relationship alongside my never-diagnosed spectrum status left me confused about what healthy relationships should look like. growing up, all I heard about was how she "fixed him" when she discovered months of uncashed paychecks in his dresser when they finally moved in together. I've always been drawn toward blue collar guys that "need fixing". there's a lot more I could say, but I'll stop there. yes, I may call my dad first when something needs fixing around the house that i cant do myself. but that's because he would be insulted if I didn't. I have no problem paying someone else.

I'm having yard work done this week, so I wasn't going anywhere. Boston was supposed to see ~93% totality, so I'm a little less than that being so far southeast. I'm actually sitting outside right now b/c the direct sun feels amazing after weeks of rain and drizzle. I'm keeping a close eye on my dogs, and if they freak out we will just head inside when it gets dark. the "peak" is set for 3:29pm, according to NASA.

I just came inside from letting the pups out to run around and pee, chatting with the guys as they took a break from working with the machinery while the pups were out in the yard. it is absolutely gorgeous out now, after a chilly start. once I'm done with the call I'm on, I'm moving myself out to the deck to get some sun. this call is the last one for today, so I don't need to worry about the noise from the machinery.

that's not really a conspiracy theory, though. but perhaps. I did think it was rich coming from someone who immediately jumped to my credit card company bait-and-switching me into a usury situation and suggesting I file a class action lawsuit over having a confusing statement. but what do I know?

another early morning Amazon delivery today, LD lost his mind a little. I got up to go bring in the box and discovered a wrapped up newspaper on my front porch next to the box. wtf? I wonder if the person got bitched at for 2w in a row of requested credits and came out later to drop it under my nose. zero newspapers have been delivered to the front porch since I've been here until this one.
in more exciting news, the landscapers are coming back with machinery today to start phase 2. woo hoo! I need to go out back and do a poop sweep before they get here. I haven't been out there the past couple days in the rain.

alright, I think I'm mostly done. just waiting on the last bunch of asparagus to cool so I can chop. but, ~15lbs of BSCB has been run through the IP and shredded, 3 bunches of asparagus have been broiled and chopped, I fluffed the load of clothes that have been sitting in the dryer for a couple days and folded those, and two loads of towels have gone through as well. I'm currently tuned in to the women's NCAA game and am pleasantly surprised to see SC ahead in the 2nd half. I remember watching Dawn Staley play back when I was in HS and I love that her team could run the table undefeated if they win today. the first thing I saw when I tuned in just before the half was an SC defender taking the ball right out of Clark's hands for a steal and score. I'm here for that. go SC!

I'm in the middle of what's shaping up to be a productive day. when I found no newspaper in my driveway, I set out for Walmart for a stockup run. the first package of BSCB is in the instant pot and I'm enjoying breakfast with a chaperon at my feet. I broiled some asparagus and prosciutto and poured two over easy eggs on top. scala bread for dipping. yum!
the rest of today is going to involve more pup food prep (I'm freezing most of it for my mom in a couple weeks) and a bunch of laundry. at least the sun is shining today. I've got the heat off and the windows open. happy Sunday!

I'm probably done for tonight, had a late lunch with a huge Caesar salad w/grilled salmon that I couldn't even finish. it was phenomenal, though. that, and two adult beverages was $45, including tip. I can live with that once in awhile.
tomorrow's grocery run will include either chicken or turkey cutlets which will become piccata next week. that will be at least two, if not three meals. another meal will be a small chicken pot pie from the fresh case, with a use by date of 4/17. and there's a lot of broccoli and asparagus in the fridge, so I'll be roasting veggies as sides.
happy weekend, everyone!

I'm in a food coma, woof. I was almost back home.and I realized I was shaky hungry. I even ate a little before I left this morning! I pulled over and found my way into a Longhorn Steakhouse. I tapped out on finishing my Caesar salad with salmon, but it was delish. the warm bread and butter is always fantastic, too. this is one of a few chains I'll go to.

I'm not sure what to do with myself. The missy is asleep. It's just her and I. I put her down in our bed tonight, because she'll just end up there, anyway. She was like woah! what.treat. DS just came home. So we shall watch the sports. if you haven't yet acknowledged his presence, just sleep. you've absolutely earned it!
